St Kilda MATCHED Richmond's bit at pick 52 to finally land our NGA prospect.

Kye is listed as a 184cm mid-forward according to the club, though he come on as a rebounding defender - showing versatility in his ability to play at both ends of the ground. He capped off a very strong end to the year with a best-on-ground cameo in the VFL, showing his ability and competitiveness to match it with more mature players.

Fincher is crafty and athletic, tough enough to win his own ball but mobile enough to play as a receiver on the outside. He is strong in the air, brave in the contest and explosive out of a stoppage.

He looked pretty bloody good as playing for Sandy.

Looked better than a late pick for most of the year.

His schools games were dominant and had the best VFL performance of any draftee this year. Vic Metro and Sandy not playing him in the midfield until late in the season has helped us out here.

People have been saying we lack a defender to run with the most dangerous oppo small forwards - perhaps that’s the role they see for Fincher…

Richmond, under Adam Yze, have been targeting pace and two way running at the draft. I think their bid for Fincher reinforces the thinking that he will be up to the grade athletically. Only turned 18 three days ago, so his VFL exploits were as a 17 year old. He has got some real potential.

Will be very interesting to see which end of the ground we deploy him early in his career.

I think that yes he can play that role, and he may.

But he has also shown that he could possibly play other more damaging positions for us including through the midfield. It will be great to see how he goes in our VFL team next year.
