Interesting that Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves wasn’t picked at all after most had him bordering on a first round pick.

For me his lack of consistency raises questions about his care factor.

Guessing most clubs have got a gentleman’s agreement?

Thinking of Wil Darcy getting picked by Dogs very last pick.

Assuming other clubs would have liked to chance him with regard to good “Pedigree” and needing a defender.

But didn’t pick him.

Either that or he’s really not that good.
He's really not that good.

We now have: Allan, Steele, Harrison, De Mattea, Prindable, Swadling, Anderson on the list.

Really need atleast 2 of these players to step up and become good consistant 20-disposal midfielders/wingers.

How many rookie spots do we have
OBree said last night just one spot.
Its between tommy and saxena.
I've been told they are taking Saxena. Cal Twomey alluded to it pre draft.

Well there's a sentimental attachment to McGuane and Saxena has been in our development system for a few years, but l don't think we have committed anything to either of them in terms of the rookie draft.
As much as it would be ashame, l personally would like to see us take a developing young key back like a Duffield....
Going what OBree said last night we told them nothing about who we are Committed too with the Rookie Pick

Not really - for most of the year McGuane was considered a far more talented player by most here, and therefore likely to be drafted.
I don’t think his non selection has negated his potential - I agree with others that his physical size is the issue.
Everybody will have an opinion is my point.

There is always going to be an inbuilt bias from us mug punters for the son of a premiership legend. Rightly or wrongly.

isnt it quite funny that all year, until the last week or so, everyone had [PLAYERCARD]max king[/PLAYERCARD] and carmichael as the swans first 2 picks in the 25-30 range..

Then all of a sudden, in the last week, the 3rd banana Kyle, who no one had really heard about ends up being a top 14 pick, while [PLAYERCARD]Max King[/PLAYERCARD] goes at pick 49.

Goes to show, for all the increased coverage and opionions on juniors, and talk from so called "draft experts" there are a lot of vast knowledge gaps/opinion differences that exist between recruiters at different clubs, draft experts ect.

The elephant in the room when it comes to our 2026 list remains the ruck position doesn't it?

If Cameron goes down then what?

A ruck option sitting somewhere between the Copeland trophy winning Cameron and the untried 22yo Steene seems a need.

As for people suggesting Buller he's never had more than 8 hitouts in a game at VFL level so is even less exposed to taking on the number 1 ruck role than a Steene. Both look more suited to being the support ruck to Cameron in 2026 though I'm hoping Steene is one uninterrupted preseason away from stepping up.

Right now the best break glass option might well be Frampton who assumed the No.1 ruck position for a month back in 2023 and was serviceable. Whether or not we can afford to move him out of defence should it be required is the unknown.

What an interesting draft.
4 of the higher rated players not picked at all.
I wonder if the club might overlook both Tom and Jai and go for someone like Fred Rodriguez.
I couldn't really work out what was meant by deciding about Tom and Jai this morning.
It was a bit nebulous, he didn't actually say one would be picked, he could have meant one or neither?

They have clearly decided Steene will need opportunity and giving him the opportunity to be second in line. Hopefully has a huge preseason.

RE: McGuane/Saxena

While I am bullish Saxena has the tools to make it in the AFL, I think we should select McGuane today, and give him a similar development pathway to [PLAYERCARD]Josh Daicos[/PLAYERCARD], in the sense that, we let him develop/bulk up, and see where he is in 2 years. Seems to have a very high level of professionalism, so feel like he will give himself every opportunity to make it.

Also, to know knowledge, this still allows us to still have first dibs on Saxena next year? is this correct?

It might depend on whether either Jai or Tom have a bid.

Here are reasons why some of these may not have been picked.

Greeves undoubtedly has some talent and finished equal-second in the Larke Medal this year.

But there was a knock on his running, with one recruiter noting recently that “transition running in the AFL has never been more important”.
Hibbins-Hargreaves
showed this year that he can turn games of football off his own boot but lacked consistency at times, while Rodriguez knows how to win the footy but wasn’t as dynamic or versatile as some other players who were picked.

Wonder what it was about Riley Onley

Not that I'm complaining, though how are we rated as a B+ while Melbourne, who had picks 11 and 12, are rated as a C+?

Because I guess who we Took and where they where Rated with that Pick
