How come he hasn't been picked up already?

I’d stopped watching after McCarthy pick so was surprised to come back and see another pick. HDM and Allan might be a little nervous with his addition. This pick suggests to me the club isn’t that confident in either given we took another two younger developing mids.
Anderson is the plug-and-play one though. Probably the lowest ceiling (because clearly he's older, you know what he's going to give you but he could still really make a massive impact) but also the most readymade/highest floor for 2026. Like he could come in and compete right away. He's the one to put pressure on the current mids, or to give others the opportunity to play outside that. Swadling could play early, but I doubt he'll step straight into the midfield. Prindable will likely take time. McCarthy obviously will be carefully managed as the least 'readymade' of the quartet.

Allan could easily play off a wing, forward, half-back so I don't think it massively impacts him whether he makes it or not. HDM a little more so as he is that natural inside ball-winner, but also it's not like we only want four mids going forward. We've lacked that depth (either older players who are past it ie. Mitchell this year, or younger players not quite fully ready and we were in our premiership window so only play them against weaker teams). Anderson gives us the readymade consistent solution, Swadling and HDM can easily work in tandem too, Allan can be like a better WHE if he fulfils his potential. Not quite the same player - obviously aerially - but has a tank and great versatility.

I would have liked to see a key defensive player brought in as we really need that depth, or an interceptor (as I have more faith in HDM/Allan than in say Ryan who is unfortunately always injured) to be that Howe replacement.

They clearly targeted lots of midfield depth and it's not the worst result. It's always good to have Plan Bs and Cs.

Allans fine but definitely HDM at risk.

I like the list changes over two years. I feel there is competition being created in both talls and mids. It enhances development. There appears to be more players with AFL traits.

I think the player most under pressure next year will be Sullivan - he gives 100%, but is limited.
Angry seems to have more strings to his bow, and is a few years younger.
Steele is another who could push ahead of Lachie.

i know he can play forward (which helps) but I wonder if his inclusion - Sullivan might be nervous.
Yep, I think Sully will be the one most under pressure.:(
Hopefully he will be happy to play in the VFL when he doesn't get selected. Will certainly boost them.
Maybe next year we will have a stronger VFL team with fewer injuries. This year it seemed like we never knew who would be playing from one week to the next.

Explains why there was no footage.

He's over in London

Good boy. Flying back asap. Correct answer 😅

Sullivan should always feel on edge. The day he feels safe in the side then we have gone backwards.

Brisbane destroyed us twice in the midfield late in the season so no one should feel safe. We were humbled.

If JDG cannot complete a pre season then maybe his best days are spent up forward.

I think Crisp should also feel nervous. Where does he slot in?

I think part of it was the whole record thing.
He needs to have games off next year, because he looked out on his feet at times, late in the season.

He’s also got HH competing for a similar role

For me I think Steele should be a starter next season I think he went well in his games last season even in finals he did look out of place and I agree Sully will be under pressure.

Steele should be on a wing permanently
The other wing is up for grabs: Allan, Ryan or any of the other young boys needs to make it theirs

HDM has gone two seasons without a debut, he should be nervous regardless of who we pick up.

I think the timeframe is a bit out for a late pick to be a likely Howe replacement in 2027. I think we'll get a mature recruit next year with Reef also in the frame.

The first thing that pops into my head is "geez he's a good size", then you look at his tape and he looks like a goer with quick hands and quick thinking. Would be good coverage for Nicky in the middle if he sticks and makes it at AFL level.
