We have seen him like once, and he was solid but as small of a sample size as you can get. If hes the only option for next year id be concerned but cant fix everything in one off season.

This is getting exciting. If players like Mackinlay, Ramm, T.Cochrane, Moraes start showing improvement then competition for spots will be insane.

I have believed for a long time that players 1-15 on our list are good enough to win a flag. It's players 16-23 where we have been lacking. Hopefully the days of playing plodders is gone.

Yes, I was very surprised in that Collins interview. He would have had a number of guns training that first week, yet he specifically chose to namecheck Mackinlay as someone that impressed him.

I know there are a number of posters here that wiped him last year, but every time I watched him play, I saw something I liked. Then that breakout game where he went "Bang," really announcing himself as a player.

Certainly going to be an interesting watch next year.

We've never had pressure for spots because everyone knew under Ken it didnt matter what you did, if you weren't on his gold pass list you weren't getting a game.

The last game he came in for an had an impact in was pretty nice. If he can do it consistently that's huge. Weird pathway, been under a lot of noses.

Pre-AFL career

Mackinlay played for the Murray Bushrangers in the Talent League.[1] Going undrafted, he played some games for Essendon in the VFL before joining the Lavington Panthers in the Ovens & Murray League in 2023.[2]

After coming runner-up in Lavington's best and fairest Mackinlay signed with North Adelaide in the SANFL.[3]

AFL career

Mackinlay was selected by Port Adelaide with pick 11 of the 2025 mid-season rookie draft.[4] He made his debut in round 24 of the 2025 AFL season and kicked a goal.[5][6]

He should be rapt Essendon didn't notice him. His leg would probably have fallen off.

Bit of buzz building around this kid at the water cooler.

A smokey from way back... I'll back him in.

Can Josh spot a diamond in the rough.

Too right he can

Don't under estimate Collins in all this.

A savvy operator geared to success.

He might be the 'missing link' in link up organised footy.

And wouldn't that be a change

Matt White is probably a more realistic while still positive comparison. I see a lot of similarities there.
Yeah but Matt White was just a faster, more outside version of Cam o Shea anyway so we're basically saying the same thing.

Josh Carr genius 2.0 though Korn will have a meltdown if that were to transpire.🤣
