It’s more likely to happen to golfers his age and talented when they’re give US$200m to play golf without winning anything.

Plenty of 3 putts on that green and pros make only 70% of 6 footers on average. His 10 footer on 17 was a beauty. None of them routinely make 6 footers so its not a choke.

Add how close his eagle putt came on 17 and his finish on Saturday. He was great. Well deserved.
 
Rory encouraging the move of the Aus Open to another time in the year so that it's more encouraging for players to travel to.

When would make sense? Late Jan - Early Feb? I personally like it when it is now and would be a nightmare for the DP World Tour to reschedule.

years ago we had the pga, open and masters in nov and dec. The european tour was in europe only and were not 46 weeks . The pga tour started in Jan in Hawaii and finished in late september. Throw in the Asian tour LIV and sunshine tour in South africa at the same time as australian leg . the calendar is full

It is a head scratcher - the problem of timing is made worse by the Aus Open going up against the Nedbank. If I am a Euro-based player, leaving aside the attraction of playing RM, I would be crazy not to choose to go to Nedbank where there are more R2DR points available up against a weaker field.

As for Jan/Feb, guessing the DP does not want a tournament going up against one of their Middle East events.

Up against the Nedbank was insanity.

We somehow have to get the Aus & NZ Gov to chip in $20m USD and have the "Antipodean Swing" ~Nov 15-Dec 15 w increased prize money. Aus PGA (QLD), Aus Open (KH, RM, NSW, Bougle + KI), NZ Open (Tar iti,CK, whatever).

We have to stop being tacaños too, the Nedbank is $8m USD, ours is $2m AUD.

Ridiculous.

That’s a pipe dream. As a golf sicko I would still go crazy if our governments started blowing money like that. The money can never be our way to compete.

We missed the boat when South Africa tied into the Euro tour and we didn’t

Why don't we have a tourny where you're paid out in Aussie Gold? Just get dished out different-sized gold bars depending upon your week.

It ain't rocket science.

Make Aus Open $12m USD & Aus PGA $8m USD and give the Top 20 in the world $200k if they come.

Charge $100 to walk around + all the Merch, Food and Bev for 40,000 people, 8+ hours for 4 days.

Gov should chip-in as there's no better way to market the State to the very people you want to visit.

Just don’t reckon we have the sponsor dollars to pump the purse(s) up high enough.

We’ll be stuck with Rory-like one (or two) off entries.

I got to see him smash driver from two metres away. Don’t need to go again. 🤣

I saw Tiger, I saw Shark, I saw Ernie, I mean.

Bryson is pretty much the only one, really. Aus Golf should offer him $3m on top of making the purse £ at the absolute very least. If it's rotated between RM, KH & Vic... that would be awesome.

It’s arithmetic. Those dollars don’t make sense in Aus. Hell, the current purses in the States don’t make economic sense for big US corporations. Golf prizemoney is currently an absolute bubble.

One more thing on this - my real hope is that the big changes Brian Rolapp has been hinting at might open up the schedule. He is big on creating "scarcity", so that might hold the key.

If the Gov can blow $96m and counting on a website that didn't need re-modelling, i'm sure they could come up with a lazy $10m a year.

Just on Rory, never been his greatest fan, but the way he presented during the week was sensational. Kudo's to him...now imagine if he just donated his appearance fee to the purse (lets face it, he doesn't need the moolah) to attract some better players. :think:
