Just got back from a surf, turned on the radio - oh so perfect a song for the moment

These sorts of artists and these kinds of performances test me. They are so exquisitely beautiful and the singer inhabits a space so pure and ‘honest’ it makes me and all the stuff I can’t help but like, like a fraud. I’m from another musical universe but sometimes that southern, rock thing, bluesy thang is right there and says, ‘hey pal, this is real’.

Not quite so 'exquisitely beautiful' as the above but Derek Trucks uncle, Butch, generations ago was part of some absolutely classic and timeless southern rock...

Edit, Butch was one of the drummers for the Allman Brothers Band

and here is a 13yo Derek opening for the Allman bros...

Cool, it's all very connected. Duane Allman of course played on the original Derek & the Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970. Here's him and Clapton in August 1970 just before they recorded the album.

He died just over a year later in a motorcycle accident, only a few months after the album was released. 😔
