Even ignoring the signs of turn I think the talk of this deck suiting England's batters was premature. Looks slowish with slightly unpredictable bounce. Not a sloggers pitch. Only way you're making 500 on that is old fashioned graft.
Yep. Once again players that had gotten set seemed to misjudge the bounce and got out to what became soft dismissals.

This is the most disappointing part. Each of our top three got starts and not one made a score.

I haven't been this disappointed with our side for a long time.

Uzi made a score but should have been out in single digits. Easy catch at this level dropped.

Unless the English collapse we are playing for a draw.... having said that they play some dumb cricket so who knows.

Wow
you can tell this is the Freo board. LOL. Carey makes a great ton, Oz in charge and all thats posted is how crap the cricket standard is. Well done to our keeper and well done to Starc yet again.

Do you think our top order played well?

I feel like Head opening cost us a little. Him and Carey could have flattened England in the middle order.

Unless England collapse like they have 4 out of 4 times? I wonder what the chances are of my double sided coin coming up Heads again?

There style of batting won't suit this wicket. Look at at least half those dismissals yesterday and I reckon that they look like just poor shots but for the Weatherald, Labuschagne and Green dismissals in particular it looks like they're through the shot early - shots that btw otherwise looked to be there.

Carse put in the worst opening spell I've seen and jagged a wicket from a classic catch. England have the worst bowling attack I've seen come to Australia for a while, even the West Indies looked more threatening.

I also think it's easy to criticise the wickets and there's a bit of extra judgement because a 550 score here would be end of series due to England spending two scorching days fielding.

All in all, we've made a poor attack look better than they are, but the similarity of many of the wickets, getting caught front of square, suggests there is something in the pitch that is resulting in slow bouncy deliveries hitting high on the bat.

Greens was dumb. He’d been out there for 1 ball and then plays across the line. The poms we’re doing it from Ball one but have gotten lucky so far.

Me, 30 mins ago at England 0/27: "See, I told all you BF people that Australia batted pathetically"

Me, now, after checking the score and actually doing work: "God ****ing damn you suck England"

As Derwayne would say Cummins was the firestarter getting the first wicket.

And the more I look at the Carey catch the more convinced I am it was out, espec from side on

The ball was hit from the line of leg stump, possibly even slightly outside it. That's playing the line not playing across it.

A specialist batter should be trying to hit that ball for runs. It was rubbish bowling. Green made a mistake with execution but the idea was right - Whether the execution is off too often is a different argument but I have no issue with the shot he was trying to play.

Alyssa Healy and Isa Guha are daylight ahead of any other commentators.
My only mark again Ish is a bit like Bill Lawley she's not a great judge of timing. Continually calling "Great shot!" and then it dribbles for 1 or 2 in the gap because it's actually a misshit.
Part of a broader trend now for years of the commentary feeling they need to talk all the time rather than following the Ritchie rule of letting the game speak for itself occasionally.

It was a lot more down leg than Marnus's but it was still his 2nd ball facing England's best bowler going at 150's. A bit more restraint required and play straight until you get bat on ball and are confident you are timing them off the pitch.

Getting out to the same shot as the bloke before 2 balls later is what England has been doing the whole series.

It'd be extremely difficult to play that ball straight given how far down leg side it was. Playing straight wasn't a natural shot to that ball.

Leave it then, just don't hit it straight to the only fielder on the leg side who took a catch 2 balls ago. I still think it was a dumb shot.

Only dumb thing was hitting it in the air which I don't think was his intention. He was through his shot.

You won't see a specialist batter not trying to hit a ball on their pads through mid wicket.
