When I was born the Muslim population of Australia was around 0.5%. When I finished school it was 1.5%. Now it's around 3-3.5%. In another 20 years it will most likely be 5%+. For reference it's 6% in the UK, 10% in France. 8-10% in Sweden, 5% in Denmark, 6% in the Netherlands... whose lead are we going to follow?

To ask a simple question - who asked for this? Which voting bloc by age, religion, political leaning - whatever, actually asked for this? Who if it were put to a referendum tomorrow would vote for increasing the Muslim population to 5% or 10%? Say what you want about good Muslims, peaceful Muslims etc. but the problems in the West always stem from the same source which is pretending that demographics don't matter. Western democracy has failed for decades now.

This seems far from simple.

So we restrict immigration of Muslims. Putting aside the fact that it is a discriminatory policy, it doesn't eliminate Islam from Australia. As you said, 3-3.5% of the population is Muslim. How does the simple solution deal with that (taking your assumption that Islam is the problem)?

Your conclusion that "all the West's problems stem from pretending demographics don't matter" is a fallacy. The West has plenty of its own problems, blaming them all on immigration is unbelievably naive at best.

If you wanted to look at an answer to your question "who asked for this?", an argument could be made that it is a blowback of sorts of the West's colonisation.

Facebook is now considered a platform for older people, couple that with the “legacy media” pages you mention and you filter even more for older people.

There are a lot of rusted on older Australians who have basically made up their mind that labor are the devil, and every time Albo speaks, it proves their point (in their mind).

Dutton was incredibly dislikable, and most younger people have cottoned on to the fact that whatever Labor’s shortcomings are, LNP will have a worse one. The LNP is basically at the point where they won’t even pretend they want your life to be better. Dutton made a last ditch effort to do some trump-style politics just as it was dawning on everyone that Trump is a fascist and sometimes even hostile to our nation.

The guards have been outside Mt Scopus school in Burwood for 40 years. There was always a much greater element of paranoia than actual need for security guards. Does there actually need to be armed guards there? Have they chosen to have them there and it's led to a sense of paranoia for a lot of Jewish people who go to them. Things might have changed recently, but there was never a realistic threat and the security never really did anything.

For the 20 years I saw them, it was an unarmed dude sitting on a stool doing sweet FA to make rich kids feel better about themselves. Always seemed like the barbed wire was more to keep the kids trapped in than anyone out.
