Hobart Stadium: $750 million cost

Double negatives aside, if you read the piece, I think it's pretty clear what my perspective is :)
Yes, that's your perspective, but given the last 3 years of public debate, inquiries and reports, parliamentary debates and finally an Act of Parliament to enable the stadium as a project of state significance (which in the end passed easily with bi-partisan support), this stadium has been subject to more scrutiny and been "thought through", more than any other stadium I can think of - and that includes Adelaide and Perth -

Well the decision has been made by those responsible for government in Tasmania and that's that. Irrespective of what happens going forward, it is now on the heads of those who approved it to make it work. If it doesn't, those people might be held accountable. 👍🙂

In Victoria the State Government have made an art form out of building massive "Big Build" projects that each have blown out by tens of billions of dollars and not a hint of any accountability whatsoever from the people of Melbourne who keep re-electing them 👎 Maybe Tasmanians think differently, or maybe they reward financial incompetence too. Time will tell.

I don’t think it’s so much a case of people rewarding financial incompetence.

It’s a case of people knowing that both major parties are reckless spenders and neither are going to be prudent. They’re all just short-termists who will splash any and all cash required.

So people remove it from their voting considerations.

If there was a party with a genuinely responsible economic plan, people may vote for it. But there isn’t.

Alas, you are right. Victorians have moved on from being spooked about the state's debt. Now days, most just simply roll their eyes and shrug with a sense of benign "What can I do about it?" indifference every time a new report hits the news about additional cost blowouts on Melbourne's Big Build projects. Meanwhile, while the rest of Australia's States drive on the left side of their roads, regional Victorian's drive on what's left of their roads at a maximum speed of 80 kph in most parts of the state.

Unfortunately, politics is all about parties, and the political parties like power. more so than doing what is right by the electorate. They like being in power more than doing what is morally, fiscally and genuinely right and for the greater good of the states and the country as a whole. We know that we haven't got snow flakes chance in Hell of getting any financial accountability or responsibility out the politicians when they can personally sup at the trough of such perks as Business Class travel for themselves and for families. Unlimited family reunions, can schedule "Meetings" to align with major events like the Melb Cup, the Oz Open, the F1 Grand Prix, the Moto GP, the AFL and the NRL Grand Finals. When the PM can have two official residences including one on the edge of Sydney Harbour (curiously, when Sydney isn't even our Capital City), and when the Climate and Energy Minister and an entire delegation can frequently jet around the world several times a year to attend meaningless Climate Control summits. I can go back to Julia Gillard who was running a minority government and rather than doing the right thing and sacking MP Craig Thompson for his rorting of union funds and subsequent misuse of public funds as an MP, when she when challenged in Parliament over the issue she deflected the opposition's legitimate questions and demands for answers with her infamous "Misogyny rant". Today, we get Albo virtually running a protection racket for a female MP by declaring that her excessive and lavish spending habits of public moneys are all within the guidelines.

YEP! WE'RE STUFFED.

But didn't a couple of the major reports recommend that it shouldn't go ahead?

One major review from POSS & some others, an economist & an architect. The Hobart city councils own review was very positive, even though the Green HCC ignored their own review!!Also in favour were another economist & a business development guru. Other than that, it was mainly political opinion one way or the other. 2 elections were held with this a question on everyone's lips. In the end It passed both houses of Parliament quite comfortably.
