Thanks to those people wished condolences to the jewish community.
Unfortunately, this massacre was almost predictable to occur.

Last night I went to a Chanukah festival here in Brisbane and I hope that the Sunshine Coast Chanukah festival on Thursday evening will go ahead. It will occur

Everyone should take care

Ps the Chanukah festival will occur at Coolum Beach Tickle Park on the 8th night of Chanukah. Ie Sunday 21 December from 5pm

How do you get to shoot 55 people before the cops intervene?

I think that they'd hired private security by the sound of it. You wonder what those guys were doing. There will be an inquest that should answer why the police didn't respond sooner. Pretty shocking that it took a citizen to take down one guy unarmed.

Well said Sammm.

Although we are in Melbourne, we are absolutely devastated.
We have friends and family in Sydney and overall we are a very small and close community in Australia. When one of us is attacked we all are.

This terrorist attack was just a matter of time.
I am not in the frame of mind for political or ideological debate, and will not be entering into one, but the entire world just witnessed what “Globalise the Intifada” really means. And to be honest, Jews may be the first target but they certainly are not the only ones.

Hate rhetoric not stopped becomes more than “just” words.
First places of worship, then graffiti and burnt out cars and businesses and finally people.

Thanks to all of you for your empathy and wishes.

BDE for all those murdered innocents and speedy recovery to all those injured.

Thank you to all the selfless people who helped out at the time with no thought for their own safety. Heroes all.

I like many others watched this in horror.

There was security but it’s unclear from the reports I saw if they were armed. I doubt they were after all in was a celebration on Bondi beach. Had they been armed it would have been with side arms, I can’t ever recall seeing private security in this country armed with anything else.

Eyewitness accounts reported the police arriving on the scene quickly from a station only blocks away. Two police officers are now in hospital with gunshot wounds. There’s little doubt from the eyewitness accounts that first responders all behaved with bravery.

When two terrorists turn up to the beach with hight powered rifles having planned an attack including planting IED’s there’s very little anyone can do.

Undoubtedly we’ll eventually hear it was all the guns fault and we need even tighter gun laws which will do absolutely nothing imo.

Absolutely horrific, shocked, angry, helpless doesn’t really cut it. This seemed inevitable, imo we seem to have been pandering since October 7th.

Incredibly sad for the victims, their family’s, the Jewish community and the wider community.

Well said Yawkey.

As someone in the community. This is tragic, but it is not a shock. No Jewish person in the country is surprised or caught out.

Anti semetism existed before Israel was created and nothing has stopped it. The weekly protests calling for intifada fuel the fire. The constant demonising and calls from Clerics in west Sydney to kill Jews.

Unfortunately, the love and support is all a little bit to little to late. We have been saying this for years.

Anyways, I am more angry then I am sad. Jewish institutions have armed guards, private, community security things that I never thought we would need in Australia.

St Kilda has a large Jewish contingent including our president, former players and a current one.

I stand with all the Jewish people and everyone adversely affected. The iconic much loved Bondi Beach will never be the same.
Nor will Australia.
Now is obviously the time for strong leadership accompanied by real, tangible actions.
I totally agree with Yawkey. The response needs to be far broader than a tightening of gun laws.

My sympathy not only goes out to the families of loved ones killed or injured by this gutless act of shooting unarmed people, but to the wider Jewish community in Australia.

They would all be hurting now & whilst Chanuka festivities are proceeding around the country, in a time when they should be celebrating how many would have cancelled or the ones that do go, do it in fear of wondering if the same is going to happen.

My heart goes out to each & every one of you.❤️

The government's focusing on gun laws as its primary message is one of the most cynical things I've ever seen in Australian politics.

Just my opinion but I think guns are definitely a part of the problem.

The son had previous links to Islamic State. Despite that the father was allowed to have a gun licence and own the 6 firearms which were used in the attack.

That is such a categorical systematic security failure. If someone has had terrorist links in the family then surely you give up rights to own guns? We're not talking about the rights to buy food or drink water, it's guns which are a luxury item for most people.

What other failures there have been given the son was identified and investigated will hopefully come out in the wash but the gun ownership just seems an obvious thing that you can put a stop to. I think we need to go harder on individuals with links to these organisations aswell. Having self-proclaimed Nazis and jihadists moseying around without repercussions is not on.

These callous attacks have no place in this country. It is so ****ing disturbing that they were targeting Jews and I don't believe for a second that their family and friends didn't have some idea of the hatred that was in them. Maybe as a society we need to have each others backs more and call this shit out.

Watching the community members and families speak on the news last night was just utterly heartbreaking.

I agree it is a combination of things that can be done, including tighter gun control.

The thing that disturbs me the most is the violent hatred spewed by SOME religious leaders in Mosques in Australia. If you have seen any of the ones shared online, you will not be shocked to see radical jihadists carrying out violent attacks on innocent people. The leaders spreading hate MUST be stopped immediately.

If you are a moderate Muslim reading this and you don't want to be (unfairly) tainted with the same brush, do what you can to call this out or inform the police.

We must stop the divisive, angry rhetoric that is generally based on a conflict on the other side of the world!

Don’t get me wrong, when a tragedy of those shambolic proportions occurs there will be a litany of causes and failures and we should expect all of them to be thoroughly investigated.

But in this instance, the government and Albanese in particular has elevated a single issue - gun laws - as the defining takeaway from the tragedy. It just so happens that that is the most vanilla and inoffensive of all the issues to latch onto, the lowest of lowest hanging fruit, that oh so conveniently will elicit no pushback from Labor’s voting base. And as everyone knows, whether we want to face it or not, there is a far bigger cause at play here, and one which does not rely on guns alone.

Anti-semitism has been allowed to go largely unchecked in this country for a while now.

The government need to grow some balls.

People marching in the streets screaming hate speech against "the Jews".

That has happened.

Tighter gun laws?... great... but come on.

I don't get how you can play down the gun issue. Anti-semitism is ****ed as are all forms of racism and if there's more we can do to eradicate it from our society we should absolutely do it.

But do you really think harsher laws on anti-semitism would have stopped these guys? They were religious psychopaths who have probably been indoctrinated on the internet or who knows where over a decade or more. They didn't care about the law obviously.

And yet they had legal access to the weapons that were used to carry out this attack. Can you not see how messed up that is?

Some of the hatred displayed by religious leaders reflects what is actually laid down in the Quran.
Most moderate muslims seem to have the ability to ignore much of the hatred written (much as christians are able to avoid stoning people who wear mixed fabric or eat certain seafood) but the problem lies in those who take a strict interpretation of so-called sacred texts.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a huge factor in this and the violence and indiscriminate nature of the Israeli attacks with the Palestinian social media being much more effective than the Israeli equivalent. American politics was divided somewhat along party lines especially in social media. The Left are more likely to express concern about Israel's military actions and favor recognizing a Palestinian state. While the Right tend to favor strong, unconditional support for Israel and are generally more aligned with recent Israeli government policies that resist immediate Palestinian statehood. US social media has a strong effect on Australian political discussion especially the more extreme views.

The problem is much wider than Israel and Palestine/West Bank and may never be resolved without Israel being allowed to "win". It had also become a real issue for politics in Australia even before this massacre with many pundits expecting the Australian Prime Minister (quite unreasonably, I believe) to solve the middle east crisis or at least take a strong stance favouring their own political ideology.

The fact is that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has now spread to quiet suburbs in Australia is a real issue that must be dealt with on an international basis. It has stepped back the acceptance of various sectarian immigrants into Australia and will have a lasting effect on various freedoms affecting all of us. Thanks to the two gunmen who decided to exact public revenge via murder of innocents as the only way they could think of to react.

I have not once voted for the Liberals or other parties further to the right. And I couldn't stand Morrison's government and his cabinet. But I have to say this is the first time I have agreed with Josh Frydenberg. I've liked Albanese and think he's done a pretty good job, but he and his government have done sfa to combat anti-semitism. And then we have the leader of the Greens walking around with Palestinian flag earrings. Says it all.

please dont buy into this crap.

Frydenberg is absolutely full of it. he's trying to reboot a failed political career thats it.

Frydenberg said absolutely nothing when members of his own party were supporting and or attending rallies involving actual Nazi's. Which resulted in indigenous Australians assaulted by a group of them in victoria and then in NSW having them rock up to parliament holding a massive anti semitic sign.

also its worth noting that in Frydenberg's interview he raised the issues of jewish school's requiring arm guards as a reason to why the current governments support has been inadequate. there's only one problem with this... this started back in 2016! when he was in government!

what's extremely disappointing is the difference in how the country has dealt with these issues in the past and how they're now approached.

the glorification of people like Hanson's who's members actually even spoke at the rallies along side Nazi's or when she was willing to take the NRA money in the USA in exchange to water down australian laws is just pathetic really.

and comments on Pauline Hanson One Nation, Bob Katter attending rallies side by side with Nazi's?

how about Jacinta price supporting them?

we can't cherry-pick when hate speech is applied and when it's not!

if the current government is too weak then one nation and katter should be absolutely dragged.

1. What I posted was relevant to what happened.

2. I said the government because they're the ones in power.

3. I'm not going engage in tit for tat drivel.

Aussies have always bonded and walked together in times of tragedy and disaster. Politicians and media that are out to divide in the age of rage baiting are doing exactly what terrorists want.

If anything it is a failure of our security services and public servants. It shouldn't be made into left right debate. It should be seen for what it is and that's attack on a way of life that we all cherish. It's grubby to camp there and exploit the vulnerable for votes and clicks. The less of both we see the better.

Josh Frydenberg's speech was one of the most genuine heart felt speeches I have ever heard. And I have voted for Gough Whitlam and Labor on an ongoing basis for most of my life.

I continue to stand with all of the Jewish families of the deceased. People like Matilda's family and many, many others who are blameless.

I also stand with people who love Australia and have had enough of the hatred and divison we have seen recently. Regardless of our political preferences..
