Let's examine what he has done here. He had an offer from an exciting, young, up and coming contender, the AFL favourite child, based on the warm, sunny northern state, on the beach, and for an extra year than what we were offering.

And he decided to stay?

WTF is he thinking? Like, I love that he did, but what...?
Yeah nah

Its called loyalty and love for your mates. Not a difficult concept

Also self belief that he’ll get a third year on merit and he will be deserving of it on form and fitness.

And self respect that he’s not especially keen to let his club down signing on for a three year deal if his form and fitness at the time of year three doesn’t justify it.

Im positive games like Anzac Day and the big Friday night blockbusters against Carlton, Geelong, Hawthorn etc in front of 80-90k would have helped his decision. No offence to the Suns but atmosphere at their games isn't quite in our league. And Billy is generally the cause of most of it

You usual stance is that you trust the club, especially when you challenge others for disagreeing with the club’s approach on certain things. However, you have deviated from that in this instance. I personally think they played it perfectly.
By signing him post season, it kept Elliot motivated to play his best possible football, in order to maximise his contract. In doing that, he gave his best possible effort for Collingwood at the same time.
If they had signed him before the finals, they would have rushed into negotiations and caved into his demands. This wouldn’t have been a good look.
Jamie is always motivated to play his best football. That motivation has nothing to do with his contract.

650k a year over 2 seems like unders tbh.
Thank you Jamie ❤️
That's what I think too. Everyone seems to be sucked into a strange concept where a star in his 30s should be paid a lot less than a solid player in his 20s.

He just wanted fair compensation after years of unders. Unless the club refused to budge a millimetre he was never going to leave.

All rules have exceptions. Billy is an exception to the rule. It’s generally true if that star had been on big bucks the entirety of his career they will take much lower packets in their final years to assist the club manage its list transition. But Billy hasn’t been on big bucks.

The thing that I find a real head scratcher about it all is that clubs give big dollar deals that will finish when that player is significantly higher risk in terms of performance than a bloke knocking on the door of the AA team. To me, Elliott's contract next year should be well above the final year's of the contracts signed by Cameron and Bruzzy.

That’s just the nature of things. Salaries are never “ equal”.

There’s life after footy, I think he’s also done the right thing for himself, that’s not to diminish staying for all the positive reasons.

Would love that to happen but sometimes people slow down approaching their mid 30s. I will be surprised if he can best the 50 odd he got last year. He in the first place needs to remain fit.
Billy 45+, Membrey 30+, McStay 30+, West 20-30. Combine that with Bobby, Beau, Shooter and HH making solid contributions and we’ll be farting through silk. DeGoey drifting forward and hitting the scoreboard would be a nice bonus too
