STAYING!

JOEL Hamling has signed a one-year contract to remain at Sydney in 2026. (as per Josh Gabelich)
Thank God. We are bleeding kpp depth so to keep a very good quality kpp on the list is a relief

Good insurance policy from the club, if Rampe stays we don't need a KPD as it would be sucking up too many list spots.

Rampe is out of contract. He is on record saying he'd like to play on. Surely we don't keep both Hamling and Rampe? If we're signing Hamling I wonder if that means we're letting Rampe go? If so, I wonder how much of the rationale is that Rampe would cost a lot more to keep than Hamling? While Hamling is taller and possibly still has more in the tank, you'd think a club great like Rampe might be favoured, other things being equal. Rampe is still a great leader and mentor for younger players.

I’d say they’ll still keep Rampe on the rookie list

I think we will keep both as we just shed Francis.

Symptom of where our list management expectations have got to that we're excited about resigning Hamling.
Yeah, we shouldn't be happy that a player who was in good form, in a position we've had issues filling well, will be at the club next year.

Rampe "might" be getting moved to the rookie list.

Depends on our lists spots and the trade period I think.

Yes I think he gives us flexibility in how we use McCartin and Melican in defence. He seems more comfortable playing a lockdown role than Francis.

Also if we ever debut Snell/Edwards/Andrew, ideally it would be as the 3rd tall in addition to Melican and McCartin. Rather than expecting them to be a 2nd lockdown KPD and have to immediately mark one of the better opposition forwards.

29/12 No.29. Glad we ended up keeping him. As much as I hope the other young defenders overtake him. I had next to no faith in him ...but have been pleasantly suprised with what he has produced when called upon. Good back up and worth a spot.. even though I usually feel like these older not quite first 22 types are a waste of a spot.
Hopefully not needed this year..and a good leader in the reserves .

Like you I like what he does. But I hope and reckon he is gone years end.
Edwards, Snell, Andrews. One of them has to stand up and demand a position in the team.
Hamlings don't win premierships. Even he knows that.

Serong almost certainly, Edwards probably, Snell possibly, Andrews doubt it (he's only had half a year).

Hamling incidentally, has actually won a premiership. Unlike our other KPDs.
