Regarding Ange, all you have to ask yourself is how much is the Europa League worth in the grand scheme of things.

For me, I'd have it along side the EFL Cup. Nice to win it but not a huge deal for a big 6 club and shouldn't be used as a gauge for a successful season.

Being their first trophy in however many years, I understand the hype around breaking a long drought. I went through the same thing with our FA Cup win in 2014 - thought it was the best thing in the world at the time. In hindsight it's a nice memory but it doesn't mean a heap in the grand scheme of things.

If I was a Spurs fan, I don't think winning a 2nd tier European trophy papers over the cracks of 34 losses in 2 seasons for me.
Does winning the league cup get you into the champions league?

If some of those losses were as a direct consequence of trying to prioritise the silverware and CL place do they not take on a different context?

Hull went on a losing run in the pl as we prepared for the FA Cup final and went up 2-0 early in that. Do you think supporters were annoyed at those pl games?

Fair point I guess. Spurs need the money with their stadium debt.

Did those losses cause you to get relegated? Genuinely asking as I don't remember what season it happened in.

Hear hear.

That's crap I reckon, it was the first of three successive FA Cup wins, a big catalyst I think.

Europa league iirc. Still a worthwhile trophy for a Tottenham who just needed to break the drought somehow.

Undoubtedly.

But come on. 17th and 34 losses in two seasons bad.
No way. He was a poor manager.
Its a tough one, his prem form was sackable but he sacrificed it to win a trophy.

Maybe in hindsight he should have gone around again.

I find this completely insane.

We were still battling to stay up, yes. Supporters didn't care as we were prioritising the cup. It was the 2014 cup you referenced. ;)

My mates all used to drag me for over valuing the FA Cup, maybe I've gone too far the other way

Mind you I was speaking purely about that one cup and not the ones that followed
I was at the G in 2012 to see the Swans win the flag. It's a nice memory but does it mean anything in 2025?

Sport is about winning silverware, of course it still matters.

I think we both know winning an FA Cup isnt the same as winning an AFL Premiership. Footy doesn't have an equivalent.

Strong whiff of ETH and Amorim to it IMO. Nothing to suggest form was going to miraculously turn around.

Had a hot start with a completely helter skelter game plan to that of most other clubs. Eventually got figured out and over 60 league games showed that the rot had set in.

Do you believe any of the managers you moved on after trophies (with much higher table positions) were hard done by? Probably 1-2 but not all of them I'd imagine. It's just the done thing at a club that aspires for the top. 8th and trophy doesn't cut it.

For you maybe.

You could argue that the teams that make the Champions League league phase are the 36 best teams in Europe. 20 of the 36 drop out, but none of them transfer into the Europa League.

So the Europa League final 36 has teams between about 37th and 73rd best in Europe. It's always nice to win a trophy but it shouldn't valued too highly. Arsenal getting to the semis of the CL was a greater achievement than Spurs winning the EL.

Winning the Europa League had two uses. 1) It gave them Champions League football that they were unlikely to get based on their form and injuries in the PL and 2) It meant United didn't get Champions League.

People like to shit on Ange and Spurs for winning a european trophy because they beatk sides like Bodo/Glimt 5-1

They're now in the CL smashing man city and are an outside chance of getting into the knockouts

Slight difference between -1 weather in January and May weather of 10 degrees.

You have taken the average daily high in May as your comparison. Was below 0 when we drew there in October and around 0 for that win in May at kick off time

Why do you bother making things up? The internet has all the data. It was 10 degrees at kick off in October. It was 7 degrees in May.

Can a man who blames the UK football publics negativity towards Ange's reign on racist grounds and not the endless supply of defeats really afford to be laughing at others.

A man with self respect would check out of the topic for good after that howler. But you do you.
