Training Saints preseason 2026

JSOS is the Battle replacement IMO. Wilkie stays as our backline general. Probably still need a tall stopper for most sides and that should be Hammer or Howard. The smaller set up will be interesting.

With Max delayed, does Hammer go to full forward if Doogs is fit?

Hope we settle Hammer at FB for the future, Howard as back up don't think his body will hold up anymore

I’m really excited to watch Silvagni this year.

I think he’s the perfect player to complement what we already have defensively.

Ryan up forward is going to add another level of excitement and give us another option which should also help Higgins.

TDK and Flanders through the middle could seriously be anything both have the capacity to play A grade football.

Safe to say I’m so excited to see our new recruits in action this year.

He's stepping up and down onto a Lego block. The plan is to increase by one Lego block per week in the build up to his return next year.
Ever stepped on a Lego block?
It’s bloody painful.
Just looking for more injuries ….

If he stays fit a lot of supporters are going to be very happy with him

His form last year as a defender was seriously good before injury

Yep I have a feeling if he stays fully fit he might just be our best recruit.
Flanders for me, have been keen on him since his draft year thought we had him a couple of years back, VVG player

Howard and Hammer seem like completely different. I think only Howard or maybe undersized Wilkie can tackle the big forwards

Ok normal transmission resumes after the calf that destroyed a football club shenanigans.
Very warm day in the sun. Shade is the go today.
Flyin' first out on the track. Thinks better of it and goes back inside.
Barrat and Chambers brings out the bins. Uncle Fester, Said and Fincher with Hastie out kick to kick.
Older hands now trickling out.NAZ and bestie Flyin' come out.
Dodson full training, Clark full training, Howard full training. Briefly saw Max in the gym in red shirt.
No rehab group.Max, Henry and LOC seem to be the only injuries.
OH2 last out. DELIST.
Boxshall, heavy strapping on the right knee.
Butler is in red so a small rehab group.
Usual warm ups with running drills.
Hugo, Roh and Hastie peel off from running drills to do repeat run throughs.
Coach wants them running at 80% as Friday is their day.
Howard run throughs by himself. Have my doubts he will be conditioned enough for Round 0
Two groups either end. Groups of three ground ball gets.
Sessions tapering with Fridays the aim.
Starting to resemble mid season training.
Three groups for next drill. Closest to me inclose possession drills.
Nepean end, bringing the ball out of defence. Armstrongs kicking greatly improved. Chambers glides across the ground and is a beautiful kick.
Hall running laps. Seems ok, running hard.
Three groups swap. I'll watch Chambers in the close posession drill. Banfield has a good turn of speed to evade an opponent. Chambers a bit lost in the close drills, but to be expected, up against experienced player in the system for a few years.
Doug in full training drills.
Higgo injures a calf, maybe just a kick, walking it out. Now running it out. Doubt its serious.
Second rehab guy must be VFL, not a listed player.
Half field non contact game sim. Armstrong gets better and better in his positioning and field kicking.
Chambers is a lovely long kick.
Hugo in this drill.
Hard to explain how organised training is. Three groups of black and orange rotating this drill and while it is training only, everyone knows their role and what is required.
In close chain of passes, spreading to the hff or wing centre to a leading forward. Banfield makes such good decisions.
The Wilkie JSOS combo will be terrific. Chambers looks good in this drill.
Keeler gets swamped for kicking a goal. Great spirit in this team.
Max in the gym lifting weights. Hall in red top doing gym work..
Semi contact match sim. Barrat and Armstrong continue to impress. Chambers again prominent.
Ross unhappy with matchups. Stocker up the race with a trainer into the room of doom.
Carroll going well in defence.
Clouded over so a bit more pleasant.
Max cant be doing too bad. Doing box jumps in the gym. When I say box jumps, not up, but down off the box.
Contested ball drills TDK vDodson. McCrae v Pou good contest. Tobie into midfield, now TDK v Roh. McCrae great at clearance. Pou buries NAZ. TDK doing all the rucking no rotation, Trav roves to his tap. Banfield continues to impress, midfield work very slick.
Harvs has picked out something from Fridays sim and is working hard on positioning at the stoppage.
Stocker didnt return. All she wrote.
Adios Amigos.
Thanks for the write up! I genuinely look forward to these dropping.

Does anyone know why the boys were so up and about around Keeler when he kicked his goal? It was on the SaintsTV video as well.

On the back of that- imagine the type of celebration for Max when he kicks his first goal back in round 2 or 3 😉

Hammer set and forget FB for the next 10 years thanks. Great closing speed, great range with the long arms and strong enough for the rasslin’ (not that that happens much anymore).

Hammer lock down fullback. Jsos second tall/lockdown. Wilkie interceptor off man defender.

Roma probably gets first crack at the FF spot with Max down but if we are gonna use a tall utility as that extra bench spot I’d love a three man rotation through ruck/ff of TDK/Roma/Keeler particularly if Moore is out in opening round, that pies defence will be ****ed

You won't get an argument from me Joff...getting Charlie and Hugh with picks in the 40's and Dodson in the 50's is extremely fortuitous

The 40s and 50s is turning into our happy hunting ground.

Recruiting like this, along with Max Hall, really helps to build our team into a powerful one.

Hugo at 50 is pretty handy too. High hopes on Fincher at 51;) And dare I say that Keeler is a pick 44.

I’ve got it on fairly good authority that if we didn’t take Banfield we would have taken Ollie Greaves.

So they must have absolutely loved Banfield. Because the Hawks are also raving about Greaves.

We still had two chances to pick Greeves before the Hawks took him at Pick 12 in the Rookie Draft.

Max King will retire at the end of this year and forgo all future payments under his contract.

Saints will then sign Ben King on a 6 year contract worth $2.2M per year.

Ben King will then employ Max King as his "manager" on 30% of the contract fee.

Jeez - When does the footy start!!! Can you watch the practice matches anywhere?
Haha. I ran into Ben in the Virgin lounge Brisbane airport. Was in his big V polo. Asked him when he was joining us and he laughed and then said never. He did think Max will be back soon

It's great seeing so many of the lads out on the track in that training footage. Mason Wood looks in very nice nick! Here's hoping we get through the practice games relatively unscathed, there are going to be some major selection headaches to deal with.

Silvagni just moves really nicely. I'm really excited to see Hammer at FB with a well-functioning backline around him.

Flanders looking like the general. Jeez he's a tidy player, will compliment what we've got so well.

Sharman did some nice things too. Very curious to see what his ceiling is over the next few years.

The kids all look very willing. Hastie for example is no slouch and could push for a spot.

Exciting times.

Everyone else had a chance to pick him & no-one did
Whats that tell ya?
I think im happy with Banfield & Fincher over him.
Maybe even Chambers too.
Chambers will be a slow-burn, but is a smooth mover with good ball skills
