I'd bloody take BT over those two and that's saying something.
You Cant Be Serious Schitts Creek GIF by CBC

Kicked over a 100 pts, 9 different goal kickers, Hayward and Ainsworth with 6 between them and Jagga, Byrne and Dean showing some. That in itself is a huge big ✅ for me. If Derksen and Lij put in a shift next Wednesday again, hand a contract to them.

Was not watching but was reading like an absolute shambles in the first half on here. Just over two weeks until we’re up and running, playing for points. Get another good hit out next week now and away we go. I don’t think we will be strong this year but I do think we travel better than a lot are thinking

Unless Luke Darcy and Kevin Bartlett are on the voting panel - then Jesse Hogan will be a lay down misere.

Love the first quarter melts - gee I was tempted to skip reading and go check the score before I got home from work to watch it

Good to see us fight back and I like that we are talking about the newbs contributing (Ainsworth, Hayward and Byrne, Jagga, even Dean and Derksen)

Sure they are missing quite a few but so were we - I imagine they may be a month behind us in pre-season and that might have contributed to their poor 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters

Let’s not get too high on this - but I do have a few Paddlepop Lions mates at work who will get a message

Get yer hand off it Soap unless you go the early crow like this poster did leading into the draft....no point puffing your chest after the fact.

The more I think about it, the more I'd be okay if we just took Dean and Ison and get the **** out of Dodge.

Just comparing the highlights reels to previous years, can't say I'm that impressed apart from Robey, Dovaston and maybe one or two others. And of course Harry Dean. I actually didn't mind the look of Talor Byrne if we do take another pick lower in the order.
Anyway, take aways from tonite:

  • new recruits injected life into the group, hopefully filters into the season proper
  • get Derksen and Lij onto the list asap - Motlop can wait his turn contrary to 'it's bad for morale' nonsense
  • loved the games of our rucks - Pitto very good and Reidy gave us some mongrel we've sadly lacked JustaBattler
  • Billy starting to look like he belongs, same with B.Campo who I really rate
  • umpires really have no idea.....again. Looked totally confused with the last touch interpretation

Not for me. Plays the Hayward role basically.

Id go first game with..
Lij Hayward Fog
Evans Mckay Ainsworth

Byrne on the bench.

Kemps not a forward either. Id play and train him down back now that we're a bit thin without Haynes, Cowan, JSOS and now Weiters potentially. Just looks a bit lost up there.

Kemp is not a defender.
Only issue with Kemp forward is his disposal & poor kicking for goal. Needs to tidy up the rough edges with some composure found.

Can we just NOT with the lame narratives of Kemp is a poor kick for goal after watching one game.

His actual record under real AFL pressure is 14 goals and 8 behinds.

Is he great or is he bad, who knows? But declaring Kemp is a bad kick for goal is just analysis slop. Let's lift the quality and not knee-jerk.

Under pressure 20m straight in front vs STK…. it’s not his strong suit. Reserves form as well.
Massive RFI if he’s to impact as a forward.

Edit: prone to poor disposal down back too. Inconsistent. Wasn’t the sharpest back there either.

I missed the end of the game because of my son's basketball game, but just got home in time to see the last 15mins of the replay.
We went up 94 to 86 and one of them said we were up 11 points. Couldn't even get the basics like the margin right.

When we hit the lead for the 1st time earlier in the game, it took them a couple mins to even realise we'd hit the lead for the first time. Then when we hit the lead later for the 2nd time, they said it was the first time we'd led all game.

I'd bloody take BT over those two and that's saying something.
Maths was bad all night. In the second qtr they had a discussion about Harry Goal Kicking. Pointed out he was 22.10 last year & how that’s not good enough and you want your key forward to go at least 50% then they said 70% would be ideal. 22.10 is 68.7% 🤦‍♂️

Meanwhile last year;
Charlie Cameron 49.2%
Oscar Allen 70.5%
Jeremy Cameron 68.1%

Considering it’s a practice match, interstate against a very well drilled team, overall there was some good positives overall…

First quarter was ordinary and much as the same to how we have always previously played, in terms of our overall predictable game style, no signs of any improvement to playing a better version of system in which we are trying to apply…

Second quarter the further it went there was a clear difference in the way we started to play, the shift from slow predictable ball movement, mainly long range kicks from kick outs, down the line and into the forward line, become the turning point to us competing…

We then began to win and control the ball, hitting up shorter targets by foot, linking up to a better spread of options…

Second half was a good head to head performance in which both sides competed fairly evenly, the pleasing thing was we continued to display a willingness with taking the game on, although our defensive setups need to improve

Many players to mention tonight who all made a impact, along with playing their part or showing some promising potential…

Derkson and Byrnes showed some promising signs, liked Deans mongrol on the boundary along with some nice defensive touches, Ainsworth and Hayward yes, Jagga nice signs Fogarty was good, good even preformance by the lads…

Love Reidy and Dean's aggression.

That free kick Dean gave away for retaliation was well worth it. Only a practice match so a good time to show you won't meekly let people take the pss.

And Reidy - love him. Gives the whole group a much harder edge. Those times where he stood up to the Bris players and took on 4 of them at once and looked like he could take them all with ease were gold. Didn't dominate in the ruck but was a good step for a bloke who hasn't played a lot at AFL level.

Brisbane won't care about the result but they had a stronger team out there than us - especially when there was no Weit, Cripps, Walsh, Jagga, Cerra, etc. for the second half or more. They still had their best team on the field and they didn't really get close.

Our bottom 6 was outstanding and miles in front of theirs.

Byrne only played a quarter and a half for 3 goals!

Serious question - would anyone on here swap back Florent, Hayward and half of Dean for Charlie Curnow right now?

Even ignoring the other 2 first round picks we got.

Late in his second ever game as a key forward…

Where has this narrative come from that Cerra is no good? Last year averaged 25 disposals, 5 clearances and almost 400 meters gained per game, is one of the better kicks in our midfield, and finished 3rd in the BnF - but now we have to move past him? Even though he was one of our best in the first half tonight? Only 26 years old too. Still think he has plenty to offer as a footballer

is one of the better kicks in our midfield

For me it's this bit. His kicking and decision-making was terrible.

I don't get people who can't handle anyone criticising our players. Our kicking into the forward line last year was horrendous - who was doing all of these kicks if everyone is brilliant and above criticism?

He's also yet another slower mid. We've got an oversupply at a time when the whole competition is moving away from slowish inside mids.

Having said that if he starts really damaging the opposition like he did in stages there tonight I'll be more than happy. He kicked a goal and set up another I can remember. Missed another gettable shot but that happens.

His poor kicking was only last season, which suggests to me it was either that he was hampered by injury, or it was a coaching/setup issue. He was an above average kick before then.

It’s not about people not being able to criticise. If you are going to criticise, make it constructive. Not just “he’s no good” or “we need to move past him”. That’s not criticism, that’s just thoughtless fodder for fans who just want to be negative about everything

Williams, Gov, Cerra are for me too unreliable. Every second kick falls short. They look like they have class but they are unable to do the basics consistently. Turnover goal.

Nathan Buckley nailed it when he said they are too inconsistent to be relied on. One moment they are 9 and the next a 2.
Hog wash.

Kemp's first match in nearly a year....
