roos_fanatic08 Souup chubbspeterson @anyone else who knows their arse from their elbow with these state players: if given the choice of one of the two, which would you have taken?

Cos I thought Becker looked like a bloke with at least budding AFL attributes in my extremely limited viewings of him, and 190cm and 92kg is a frame we could sorely use, particularly if it has a penetrating kick. I may of course have missed something in both players' cases
Honestly, haven't seen that much of either of them in VFL or SANFL.
I would've added both moving Blake onto the LTI, but if I had to pick one, Becker as a lockdown defender who can use it well moreso than a half back/midfielder, but we don't exactly have great half backs who defend well either.
Blamires seems to have done a lot right to be named most promising young VFL player.
He'll be a good pick up hopefully and probably put a few players like Powell to shame getting the chance.

But welcome Tom, very excited for him. Certainly deserves the chance on and AFL list.
You're a Shinboner. Hope you can make something from your chance.

Should've added both.
We only had one SSP spot. Unless we moved Thredgold onto the LTI list. Club didn't choose to go down that path. I suspect given Thredgold's potential as a KPD, we will want him to play some VFL this season. Hate seeing new draftees sit out their initial year on the rehab list.

Didn't see the Melbourne warm-up game. Was there that much of a difference between Blamires and Becker. The game just happened this weekend and the highlights don't reveal much about these two. Also the club had until March to decide but decided even before the AAMI Community Series Game. The gap between these two must have been fairly obvious if they've made the decision on the SSP spot already.

Understand that. In my next post said we should have moved Blake onto the LTI.
That kind of injury I think you let them sit out the year and take no risks trying to get them back early to play.
But fully understand the argument of the mental side of giving him a goal to pursue I guess of playing VFL late.
Still a chance they could move him mid-year and pick up someone in the MSD.

I'd say Becker had the better intraclub and Blamires had the better half of an AFL game.
Blamires likely just seen as the more likely prospect to make it perhaps, particularly athletically.

Becker played the full game. Started. Was named in the squad.

Blamires came on at half-time well after the sting in the game was gone, and after not even being named in the squad to play.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Nothing against Tom. Just... confusing list management and relationship/development of players.

Certainly a little odd. I guess we all just assumed that Becker was in the lead because he got named in the squad.
Maybe they had seen enough from Tom in the work they would have done on him in the lead up to the ND if we were interested in him and just wanted to get a bit more of a look at Becker in a practice game?
Perhaps Becker is more likely to be available in the MSD over Tom is another consideration perhaps if we have a pick.

So we should make an early call and not change it regardless of other information? This is actually the least confusing thing this list management team has done.

Right lol, like what happened after he was named in the squad and started etc.

Don't know much about either of these guys so just hoping we picked the right one. A half-back with pace is a start.

A smart club would have opened up a 2nd LTI considering how many plodders we have

I can only base what saw last Friday and I thought that Blamires was the more composed and used the ball very well, I didnt see a lot of Becker to be honest.

Wishing Tom all the best, welcome to the Club I hope you can make the most of your opportunity.
We also looked incredibly slow in that game, no doubt accentuated by McKercher's absence and Kosi and Latrelle's presence. Melbourne cut us to ribbons with their pace and run.

We desperately need some acceleration. But with injury question marks over Corr, McDonald and it seems, most of the backline, not sure why Thredgold wasn't moved onto LTI for Becker too.

I don't pay attention to other clubs but I don't hear of them paying out players just for being spudly (as opposed to having behavioural issues)? Are all AFL clubs dumb then?
Only the real ruthless one's do. Blues cut Binns with a year on his contract recently.
I think we could have parted ways with one of Scott (uncontracted) or Fisher. Didn't need to keep both imo.

Hold up a darn tooting minute

That’s one of Blamires’ biggest strengths. He can play a role in defence, where he can produce drive out of the back half and lock down the opposition’s most dangerous forwards, but he’s also a gun on-baller with an elite work rate who can hurt you both on the inside and outside.

“The beauty about Tom is that he doesn’t just fly off offensively and try to accumulate as much of the ball as possible, he does everything from a defensive starting position,” Kornberg said.

“I think that’s a really good asset to have. Throughout the year he turned into one of our more trusted midfielders. His ability to get from contest to contest is elite, that’s certainly his AFL trait and I think he’s certainly AFL ready from that perspective.”
