Pritchard I believe will be on the list at Port Melbourne
Another younger player from Melton South was training with Collingwood VFL prior to Xmas before being cut. Was eligible for 19.5 and still is this year but played every game at South in seniors since coming across in the early rounds. Great advertisement for playing younger types and giving them opportunities.
Probably only downside with a side like Diggers is that most of the senior side are mature players and it’s a concern long term or if the $$ dry up.

I would like to personally thank you Turbo, you were the only club that offered my son a guaranteed 2 x Senior appearances. Keep up the great work.

Feel sorry for the kid that misses out on those 2 games not on merit
Who said anyone missed out. Could have been a case of an opportunity due to someone missing through injury maybe. Either way in my opinion it was a win win for both parties with full support from the coaching and leadership group. Plus he had previously played some senior footy at a decent level so it was worth the investment 💯. Very popular amongst his team mates with his attitude and commitment and fitted in so well. That’s also an important ingredient.
South previously got criticised for recruiting players with reputation on good $$ and I encouraged this method as it’s for the future.

Post said a kid got guaranteed 2 senior games ? Who is offering them out ? Footy ops or Senior coach ?

Would have thought head down and get picked on merit was the best formula.

Reckon this is done a fair bit of you are trying to attract a kid - if the kid is good enough he holds his place, if not he goes down and plays reserves or under 19s. Why not give him a chance? By the sounds of things a bloody good decision if he played all year on the seniors.

not sure if this is a joke or serious. guaranteeing a potential recruit senior games is a culture killer. Id tell them to find another club if that's what a player requested. Surely you don't offer that Turbo as part of a recruitment strategy??

Oh ffs how smart is everyone on here. So when clubs recruit new players that are up to senior footy do they select them in the seniors or reserves/19s?? Im
Really not even sure why I’m answering this question.

Furthermore on another subject clubs should be promoting younger players with talent as that’s the future don’t we agree?? Any club that plays a talented younger player in reserves knows nothing about development of young talent. Full stop!!

Oh ffs you play them on merit. you don't guarantee them games in the recruiting process. What happens after game 1 and they are clearly not upto senior football. What happens when jonny thinks he deserves a game first and then finds out he didnt get picked because games are being handed out in the recruitment process. There's a discussion about senior opportunity's will be given to young players and then there's guaranteeing games. big difference.

Turbo, I think two different concepts are being blurred here. No one is arguing against promoting youth, that’s just smart list management and essential for any club’s future.
The friction is specifically about the 'guaranteed' nature of the appearances mentioned earlier. Most would agree that while pathing talent into Seniors is the goal, promising spots before a ball is bounced can be a tough sell for the rest of the playing group. It’s less about the age of the player and more about the meritocracy of the selection table.

Some people have no idea. We are referring to someone who moved from a premier league club after the season had started where his resume showed he had played senior footy at 2 other clubs. If it was guaranteed or not he was clearly up to the standard and proceeded to play every game in the senior side. So what is everyone’s issue?
Obviously previous posts before yours have little idea on footy!!

Obviously you have never taken on any role within a club as clearly you don’t understand the system or the person being referred to well buddy. The player came into the club after the season had started.

The only thing I'd do differently Turbo is tell them that they won't be going anywhere near the magoos....Sheez If he has already played seniors at premier division and is good enough to get a VFL trial and at the perfect age to build on what do you say to them "sorry you will have to come through the two's??

No, you make them feel like they're an important part in what the club is building towards and wants them come along for the ride and we beleive in you, Turbo you're spot on!
