Ed was so comfortably best on ground. In the last quarter he was willing it forward in stoppage with little toe pokes and his inside 50 kicks to Naughton and English were 52 metre lasers. He is one of the best players in the afl largely because he is flawless.

Libba and Kennedy were both rough as guts in that last quarter. They lifted the physicality notably and you got a sense quite early we could run over them.

English might become more of a weapon now with the new rule. As games progress he is just everywhere. He smashed Fort and was right to stick it to him after he got his revenge goal.

I thought Hynes started well. He is gifted by hand. Faded later but like that we’re playing him.

Arty didn’t have a great game and just looked to be lifting when he got KO’d. Stick with him, he’s an afl talent and a good one.

Croft also seems to be ready to play good afl footy just hurt himself and his ball use was off in this game. He’ll be a weapon. Such a specimen

Time will tell how sustainable that style is though. The High defensive press last year, rendered us completely open when a superior kicking side got free and sliced us up

This fixes a lot. But to play Devils advocate, this style relies heavily on Khamis, Lobb and O'Donnell holding strong every match. Giving up that much ground fielding defenders who struggle 1v1 is Bold.
From what I could tell we pushing our team defence back further to reduce 1v1s though - which is probably why they had easier ball movement up the ground.

With the new rules for OOB it makes sense to use the boundary as an extra defender. Guard the corridor and D50. Scrag can come up a description of what that looks like on the heat map.

Chris Fagan a bit salty and a bit defensive in his presser. I think he is shocked and surprised they lost.
I don’t agree. I think he was paying tribute to us by saying that Brisbane did everything that he would’ve wanted them to do, but they were just beaten by a better team who put in a great performance.

Would have been worse if he’d put the loss down to luck or “we had a jot of key players that just couldn’t get into the game” or “we got injuries at unfortunate times” or any one of dozens of excuses that coaches use.

Honestly, I don’t think Brisbane could have played much better. Neale, Andrews, Zorko, Ashcroft, Cameron and more all had a big effect on the game. But we were just better.

The Flying D!

Bevo’s taken inspiration from one of the all time great Gordons of history!

I’m not sure what the tv showed, but Kai Lohmann and Charlie Cameron carrying on to the crowd after a few cheap goals in the third and forth brought our mob to life. With the ‘Country Road’ bullshit and the Lohmann propaganda on the big screen, it was lovely to see our Doggy bad arses take care of business shortly after 😎
Hubris personified.

Interesting that one coach must have given Neale 4 and the other gave him nothing. 4 to Cameron too.

Annoying how they keep the songs going after play restarts now

My son was born in January, so this was his first official game. He only knows success now, we can never lose again.
Congrats! 🥂

No votes for English
Or Bont.

I don't see how Bont's 3 goals were that much worse of a game than Cameron's 4, when you consider that of Bont's 19 touches, 18 were effective (so 15/16 outside of shots), whereas of Cameron's 15 touches, only 8 were effective (and if you take out 4 goals from 6 shots, he only had 4 effective touches from 9 possessions otherwise). Both had 8 score involvements, 5 tackles. Bont just both won more of the ball and used it far better, and like Cameron kicked multiple goals from challenging locations, yet Cameron got 6 votes and Bont zero?

Lester to me was clearly their best player, and I had him third best on after Richards and Bont, so it's strange only one coach has given him one vote.

Quite amusing seeing Williams and Budarick, both of whom caused melts in the game day thread, get coaches votes.

It's a measure of how well we're going early season, we've run out of actual whipping boys so we have to invent them.

just guessing but last year we were cut up in bursts of fast transition, particularly through the middle and over the back.

You cant be everywhere. So maybe we are letting go of the hard forward press?

we sure arent letting go of the defensive press, but with the collective speed of our forwards, thats not so much of an issue - we got a lot out the back ourselves
Excuse for intrusion but being at the game it felt like you guys outrun us on many occasions to be able to get some easy goals out the back. In the end i think it was your running workrate that eventually got the job done. Just look at English workrate sprinting forward to take the mark inside 50 late in game.

I really enjoyed this one and I think its significance has been well canvassed in pressers and post match.

At 26 points down, we fold or just can't make it back in previous years. This was different and the Lions are a super talented and dangerous side.

Both we and the Lions have scope for improvement and both sides left a couple out there.

Impressed with both Jacques and Buttereig (probs spelt one or both incorrectly ... I'll get there).

Excellent spectacle. One hesitates to count chickens or declare summer on the evidence of one swallow but it was far from terrible

I think the new team structure worked really well in both its offensive and defensive phases. It seems to be similar to Richmond’s during their premierships. It’s about winning turnovers in critical parts of the ground from where we can counterattack quickly and effectively.

It’s far better than the old high press in so many ways. It’s responsible for less disposals and less I-50s, but a much better scoring rate.

Lobby picking up all the empty Gatorade bottles behind Bevo when Bevo was being interviewed by Fox Footy shows the team man he is.

He went through my recycling bins last week, he loves the 10 cents
