I find the discussion on the Port kit weird.

IMO one of the absolute best Home and Clash kit set ups (both are effective and clear) the teal gives a great option for third jumpers and occasionally they get to don the prison bars to honor their history.

Theyve also done some cool (if weird and not perfect) stuff witht he lightninh graphic and tribal tattoo for the kids.

Im not sure i can think of many missteps (outside grapgic design implementation stuff) and their current suite is chefs kiss.

I like it but it does seem like an odd choice for a one-off jumper for Gather Round. It feels more like a clash jumper than one of the more "out there" designs we've seen clubs bring out in recent years.

If it became their full-time clash though that would be fantastic.

Can’t be a clash can it? It’s too similar to their main.

That’s fair enough to want wild stuff for gather and maybe this isn’t the best gather round set up but it’s still a nifty jumper imo.

It's a problem of the AFL's making. By forcing the club to abandon and distance itself from its tradition and heritage, including the prison bar branding and original colours it's caused an identity crisis that still lingers on. Half the supporters won't be satisfied until the Prison Bars are a more permanent fixture, the other half are happy for teal power. Instead of forging ahead one way or the other, the club tries to please all and fails at both.
My dream mix is black white PB for all home games/finals. Zany Teal monstrosities and silver/black variants for away games.

I think the Port home jumper works well, Adelaide has the Colors of SA, Port has the design of the South Australian State Jumper, its professional and has the Port Adelaide Magpies Back on it to honor their SANFL days.

Don't know why you would change it.
Because their first AFL away guernsey is a better design.

I like the PB's and have no problem Port wearing them at home. But they are not the original colours and the PB's are what supporters choose to identify the club with. Now most clubs have deviated from what they originally wore. The league have allowed this and other clash issues to go on for too long. Saying that Port came into the AFL, not the other way around.

Sure, but Port are different in the sense that they are the only 'expansion' club that was promoted into the AFL on the strength of their history, success and existing supporter base. Since 1902, the PB's were the Port Adelaide identity. It's not an easy or palatable task to shake such strong, unique and sustained branding because the AFL suits said so. If there were consistent rules applied by the AFL, or logic beyond Eddie Mcguire doesn't want anyone else wearing black and white it would be an easy sell. However, that is not how the AFL works, and here we are 20+ years into Ports AFL journey still arguing about it.

Real stretch to say you were forced.

Whilst i do think its ridiculous you can almost never wear the PBs it would be equally ridiculous to have you wearing them 12 times a year.

You adopted the teal and now have a cracking jumper, if your fan base is fractured it needs to come together over what you have and what you are.

Stand by what i said, the kits are fantastic, the whole suite.

How so? It was a condition of entry.
Can you give me a logical reason why it's 'ridiculous' for Port to wear a guernsey of their choice that they've worn for over 100 years in home games?

So dont enter. You werent forced to do anything, you wanted the license, you accepted the terms.

Its ridiculous because an existing team in the competition you entered already had said jumper. You cant be wearing it every other week (noting i think you should be given more usage of it than you currently have and it should be AFL discretion not Collingwoods). You havent worn it for 100 years in home games in the AFL so thats a disengenous argument.

No, it's clearly not the same jumper and in fact is less similar in design to Collingwood's jumper than the Hawks or Roos. It simply shares colours, of which many other teams in the comp do every week currently. This is the problem; there is no consistency in the league and no legitimate reasons applied to why Port can't wear it as they please. Eddie influenced the public opinion so hard on this topic and now Port are stuck having to justify why they can't wear this kit, when every other club can do what it wants.

To be clear I cgaf what Eddie or the pies think.

You gave your jumper up, by agreement, to join the league and now have one of the best kit sets in the comp. The club doesnt have to justify anything, just embrace the culture you have.

Move on.

So you're telling me if Norwood or West Adelaide or Glenelg or South Adelaide entered the AFL they wouldn't have to change their jumper/nicknames. Any club coming into an existing league needs to respect the clubs and their histories, that are already there. This exact situation occurred when Southport wanted to enter the QAFL in 1982. The league said we can't have two Magpie teams (Sherwood and Southport) you Southport need to change. The Sharks were born and the Black Chevron on White replaced the Stripes. Southport agreed and the rest is history.

Thanks for telling me how to feel about my own club.

No, I'm not saying that, and I don't want to derail this thread with PB arguments. No one in Port land is asking to be called the maggies, and our guernsey is unique to our history and not currently worn in the AFL by any other club, so there shouldn't be an issue with wearing it.

If you want anyone to take your position seriously then yeh, feel however you like but you look pretty ridiculous.

You reckon if the Port Magpies were in the AFL first and Collingwood came along to enter youd have accepted them being the Magpies with their jumper?

Sucks you were second but you were second.

This is a pretty good example of the difference in attitude being way more important than the outcome.

Again, i think Port should be able to wear their prison bar more often (makes sense for Showdowns and one other game a year to me but whatever) but the longer you keep on complaining about the rules you agreed to the more old cronies complain and the longer you dont just move on.

I don't care if you think I look ridiculous. That's your opinion which doesn't appear to be founded on anything other than your personal feelings.
In regard to your question, I'd expect them to change the name as it's identical, and I wouldn't have a problem with their guernsey. It's not the same design so why would I have a problem with it. Port and Collingwood in the past have played against each other in their black and white kits. There should be mutual respect of each others history.
Regardless, you're not going to change your opinion and neither am I. So that's it for me.

Its also 2026 and two teams playing in black and white stripes as a consumer product is idiotic.

My opinion is backed up with the fact of the agreement you entered into to join the league so you can go on about it all you like, thats why you look ridiculous, this precious jumper thats so critical to your club was voluntarily abandoned to join the league. Your club chose it, then complained about it.

Imagine norwood entering the AFL competition with this

Will any club kick up a fuss?

Dill sees no problem, the only caveat is to wear white shorts against Melbourne and Carlton. It’s got my seal of approval.

😂

Just to pivot a bit if we can?

Anyone else hate it when people say "I play AFL", be it in juniors, local leagues, state leaves such as the wafl etc?

No issue for me, or the guys I play NBA with on Monday nights.
