Just hoping that it wont be like last season where Gulden was THE difference maker that makes the engine go. Otherwise it will be a long one.

Absolutely unacceptable that one player is that important to a teams success with 25 players in a team tbh

I'm sorry but that's not an excuse. Wasn't always to advantage but he made f all effort to charge at the footy and affect his opponents ability to win it.

If our ball use is going to be like this all year, we would have been better off just playing Errol and getting as many games as we could out of him . The season is down the gurgler without him anyway

People are piling on Cleary , and yes he looked out of his depth but considering the VFL seasons hasn't started what are people actually expecting of him?

I don't know, have a shot for goal when he's 25m out instead of doing a u-turn and getting pinged.

The thing is - if not to advantage bring it to ground for a contest - did not happen enough. I guess he is not really that sort of BIG key forward.

Our game plane is centred around him though . It relies on skill and hard running

He is our most skilful and best runner

Are you kidding? He kicked three, looked like our most dangerous forward in the air and his pressue at ground level was great - laid more tackles than any of our small forwards. More marks than Amartey + Curnow combined, too.

The surprise of the night for me was how poor the backline was.

McCartin and Melican both had a great first couple of games - poor tonight.
And Rampe got flogged.

He is not a BIG pack mark - relies on his speed which is why he kicked so many goals wheeling around from 45-60M in the past. I think McDonald in the square and Amartey and Curnow up the ground a bit.

I reckon Newcombe must be the luckiest player in the league - never done for HTB.

Joe the goose goals. Yeah he does a few things well but he has 0 ability to hit a pack which is a shame for his size. We have 3 pillars down there and just needed one to stand up down the line and none made a whimper.

Pretty solid effort given the circumstances, could have made the move on Newcombe w JJ in the last. Rampe smashed by Gunston, thought Grundy was next level and some good moments got us in thecontest. 2-1 at the break will take that. Work on plan B over the break. We need to work onnthe fwd 50 entries, they were poor all night.

Hard to charge at a footy that is booted higher than the 5th tier of the grandstand.

We just constantly booted it down the line and high because the smalls got too lazy to great the corridor run.
