Basically, if you'd used a word like normality, instead of mediocrity, no one would have any problem with what he said. It's just semantics.I had a pool, poorly chosen word.
Not the first time his mouth has gotten him in strife.
Imagine how insufferable he would be if he won a couple of flags!

The Giants have some guys out that usually torch us. Feels like Bedford is often a thorn in our side (he's their no.1 tagger too I think?), Kelly has killed us for a decade, Taylor usually does as he pleases, Tom Green. On top of that Briggs is a ruckman that Marshall has been up and down against and with TDK the tandem rucks should be a huge advantage for us.

It's interesting that the odds are so heavily in their favour. I see this as a genuine 50/50 game. I really like the changes, and they've kept the same side that just got beaten by 80 points.

No excuses this week, it's time to get on the board and get the season rolling.
If our complete lack of ball execution & decision making wasnt as bad as it has been for the last two weeks, l would back us in.
Just cant see us turning that around.
Well, we probably will, when finals are out of the equation & in reality thats looking like the most likely outcome, yet again.
At least we havent been belted yet.

Interesting that we've finally brought in a small defender, though it's against the first big forward line that we're facing so the four talls down back could actually make sense.

Hogan - Caminiti
Stringer - Wilkie
Riccardi - Silvagni
Gruzewski - Tauru

There's also the 188cm Brown to consider. I guess Carroll goes to him.

Last time our two teams met was the last round of 2025 where GWS ended a run of 4 consecutive wins for the Saints with an 11 point victory. GWS went on to be eliminated in the first round of finals by Hawthorn.

Personnel changes since last time we met:

GWS

Out: Taylor, Aleer, Green, Bedford, Cadman, Jones, Wehr
In: Buckley, Laverde, Oliver, Gothard, Stringer, Hogan, Delana

St Kilda

Out: Steele (C), Keeler, Jones, Collard, Travaglia, Macrae
In: DeKoning, Silvagni, Ryan, Flanders, Owens, Carroll

IF ...

the smart alec, cryptic, cutting, surly and dismissive Ross Lyon from Thursday's media conference is back for good ...

THEN ...

good, Cuddly Ross was an imposter. Not entirely sure what Ross meant when he said, "If you want 'normal', then you step to the other side of the microphone and the other side of the fence on the ground, and you pursue mediocrity in your life". Interesting, given Ross chose to stay involved with footy by dabbling on the other side of the microphone for three years between getting the heave-ho from Freo and starting a second stint at the Saints. Whatever. The Saints need the old Ross The Boss. And Ross, very desperately, needs a win. Bring on Saturday, versus the Giants.

That comment has triggered way too many brainlets. That one single line taken out of context by that dickhead Guardian reporter has had too many people frothing at the mouth.

Ross doesn't mean a normal person leads a mediocre life, nor does he mean journalists live mediocre lives. He's saying that to be a footballer at the highest level, you have to be better than mediocre. And if players don't want to reach for greatness, they can do that on the other side of the fence.

It's bad enough seeing the morons on Twitter getting worked up about it, and clearly Damien Barrett didn't actually watch the press conference - no doubt he only saw the tweet from the Guardian reporter.

The Guardian sends reporters to AFL press conferences?

So we are 0 - 2, training yesterday was a laurel and hardy episode, 4 of our best players are a likely late out, the coach is having a slight mental breakdown on TV and our most important player has a knee made of jelly despite being signed for 20 years.

I tell you one thing, I ain't being sucked into any pre-season positivity ever again. :tearsofjoy:

Purple’s taking it personally because Ross mentioned a microphone and therefore sees it as an attack on journalists.

Very thin skinned member of a very thin skinned mob.

Reminds me of the time I upset Jim Wilson with a few late night words (though James Bracey at least took it well 😃)

Praying we don't match Caminiti with Hogan, that's another 6 goal haul incoming

Not confident with this game- the team has been totally unbalanced for two games losing games they probably should have won. Maybe Lyon needs to go back to his old defensive game of years gone by, as whatever he is doing now, aint working properly.

Srs question - is this opinion piece satire? Because Damo does not possess this bravado, sass etc in his interviews 1:1, case in point the Ross Lyon piece only 3 weeks ago
