If you must have Fender the MiMs aren't too bad. I got mine in the 90s, pretty decent sound from the ceramics, nice neck, the pots lasted until 2019, the tuners look cheap but still stay in tune. When I got it, it was a combo sale with a little Peavey amp for US$250.
The market seems a bit saturated with strats so resale value maybe shouldn't be the point of getting one. I've heard the custom vibes squiers are pretty good. Plus everyone and their cousin seem to make strat copies. If possible try some out if they're near you. I picked up a tele that a guitar store had made in China, plus other models. I paid US$50. They said CHinese mahoganywhich I've seen translated as linden or basswood. Pretty soft. Anyway loved playing it straight away, very bright and loud acoustically.
That's a good sign for an electric guitar. And as per my post above I'm changing my mind, about to go and try this, way different to a Strat of course but I'm metal as **** haha
