Good to see Toby Greene have an ordinary game against us. Usually he torches us.

I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day but we shouldn't have let it get ugly, we should've won that easier than we did.

Our defence was struggling though with Caminiti off injured and Wilkie injured on field, thankfully JSOS stood up with Stocker.

Tauru moving forward was a win, he looks better there than in defence and we need to keep him there with Sharman struggling. .

Wilson was another positive, he's getting better with every game, we need to sign him up long term, he could be as good as Nas.

Just got back from the game. Was great to see all the Sainters turn out. They nearly gave me a heart attack, but we just needed that first win.

How bad is the Hammer injury? Loved seeing Viking forward--let's continue with the experiment.

Better games from Boxshall today, looked much more up with the tempo.
Sharman will get his marking game going, he has elite hands, just having a bad patch. Smart player with a good tank now.
Phillipou still not quite right with his body, but you can see he will develop into a strong onballer with elite hands.
Outclassed in the second half, we just kept over flooding the defence and giving it back.

St Kilda secured the win today, but there are some major takeaways for the team.

📉Success isn't just about the final score; it's about the process, the execution, and the standard we set for ourselves. Even when we get the "W," we have to be honest about our performance.

Winning while underperforming is a dangerous trap. It’s a reminder that we need to fail forward, refine our strategy, and never settle for mediocrity.

Growth happens in the gaps between a win and a great performance. Back to the drawing board to ensure we're not just winning, but leading with excellence. 🚀

Linked in translator is fantastic.

1st quarter: “I love football, finally it’s back.”

Everything passed the 10 minute mark of the 2nd quarter: “Why are they like this?”

Monkey off the back. New recruits and blokes facing media scrutiny for wages etc. (TDK, JSOS, Nas, Wilkie) can all just go about their business now you’d reckon. Hopefully Sharman can relax and unclench his sphincter now too, blokes dropped about 8 marks he would swallow up in the first 3 games.

A good game for Sinclair, Wilson, Garcia, JSOS, Wilkie and a bit too many passengers. I reckon Nas, Windy and Mitchito might have a bit more sympathy for Steele now after their first 3 games as part of the leadership group. They’ve all been down a bit this year compared to their end of last year form.

Stocker is just such an obvious choice to replace Webster, most accountable small/mid sized defender we’ve got and has great awareness for when to go and assist team mates in contests. Caminiti being injured may save Carroll’s bacon for another week.

Think this first win and another game under the belt for this new look outfit will only be a good thing.

Was that you on the TV celebrating Woods' goal

It was a classic old style Lyon grafting win. Have the group do the hard work early and then slow and lock the game down. The trouble with this tactic is too many of our players went into their shells and lost the dare they displayed in the first half.

We were by far the better team in the first half, but as soon as we stopped running at them they rebounded everything. We didnt take our chances again too many easy shots on goals missed, thankfully they were just as bad. I have to say I am not of fan of Lyon locking games down when we were running on top of the ground, we should have been going for the throat.

We cant expect to dominate games for the entire 120 minutes, but I felt our group gave GWS more than a sniff becoming so defensive. Yes we won a game interstate, but as dominant as we were we should have killed GWS off early and had a percentage boosting win.

We will all take the win, but we have to ask ourselves will we progress with these game tactics?

It’s a win. Thank god.

They were fantastic. Then good. Then it was backs to the wall.

The Giants were ALWAYS going to come. We need to kick better otherwise the outcome is what we witnessed.

0.5 between TDK and Ro. We were very close to having a lot of naysayers eating cake on this one.

When the going got tough it was frustrating at the selfishness creeping in. Just give the handball Higgo and Nas probably shuts the door at the start of the last.

Ro electing to kick a few times when runners are all around him etc.

I reckon he's a bit of a grub. Clearly not a midfielder. Lochie Ash carved us up for three quarters. Who was on Ash?

TDK is a lot better handballing around the contest compared to Marshall, seems to have a bit more time to get rid of the ball and has better awareness inside

There are some match ups we won't get away with it, but if Howard comes in and isn't great I'd keep our backline setup we had today after Caminiti went down.

We held up very well considering how much dominance GWS had halfway through the 3rd quarter until the end of the game. It would help free up another runner that means we could put Nas (or Flanders) down back more often if we need that extra rebound.

Joey is right tbe real litmus test for us this year wil be which of our young players will take next step??
Out of younger players I only have Naz and Hall and A grade
Our future won’t be decided by the 4 new recruits coming in….it’ll be decided by one or more of these guys becoming a consistent A grader
Wilson
Pou
Garcia
Windhager
Owens
Tauru
Box

Just watched Ross' presser. Here are the notes:
  • Lightning delay wasn't ideal preparation.
  • Ross said the team were singing "Dancing in the Dark" before they went out after the lightning delay and seemed very relaxed.
  • Praised Hugo's tag on Callaghan - also singled out the performances of Wilson and Hall.
  • "We won't get ahead of ourselves" - well that's a relief.
  • They don't know if Caminiti is hamstring tightness or a strain - "investigation" to come.
  • Ross breaks out his amateur comedy routine, talking about Chris Fagan eating Subway in the stands - said he had plenty of room to spread out due to low crowd size. Hilarious stuff.

so many thoughts. Firstly, I am willing to give both teams a slight pass due to the nature of the conditions, the 60 minute delay. If it was just us then I would be more critical but it was quite obviously effecting both sides. I do think the decision making was genreally better too.

Obviously first half, very nice. Second half turned to poo. I get the tired legs, and even some of the skills. It is the intention though that is frustrating. There was a 10-15 minute patch in the third where we kicked out and went to the same spot where Tauru and Owens kept undershooting the ball.
We are crying out for a big body in the midfield. Without Mcrae and Steele going we don't have the lynchpin.
Naz is just starting the journey, Flanders is too small, Pou not ready yet. I would lvoe some more Box time as he tackles hard, as we know does Owwens as well.

I think maybe in hindsite we wouldnt have signed Mcrae and just kept Steele. We also desperately miss Jimmy Webster.

A couple things
I am really glad Ross kept Tauru up forward for the whole game even when hammer went down.
He'ss show a sign here or there but eventually I thnk he will explode. That mark was gorgeous as was another of his courageous efforts.

I think Hugo has been one of the stronger performers this year and toay I though he was one of our best. He is becoming a little bit slippery and his decision making is improving.

In a game like today second third fourth efforts even after mistakes count as much as goals.
A couple time the Box mucked up but imediately made amennds.

Wilson electric, one of the best halves we have seen from him. In the second half maybe he got some more attentin, maybe it is simply consistency, regardless once he puts it together.

Much better game from Flanders today but still not enough imo.

TDK also good but those set shots were not good enough.

I said it earlier. I love Pou and IK I am biased, but what is the point of having him and Viking play a half each. Basiclly a man down. He started off ok and then dropped off.

Ultimately, it was one of those games, shit conditions, crap circumstances and just get it done. Back at the dome next week should be fun.
And Marshall's 2 set shots, which you would 100% expect him to kick.

Nail those and we bury them.

Happy with the win interstate.

I’m going to put the fade out down to a combination of the bug going around the team and the interrupted preparation for the game.

I know GWS had the same preparation but we somehow spent all our tickets early while they paced themselves a bit more evenly.

Still lots of kicking errors and dropped marks.

When we were rolling early I thought TDK was instrumental
