Review What's The Point? Brother I'll Give You 25 Of Them As Freo Tame The Tigers By 60

It's certainly interesting to see people who've spent then last three weeks bemoaning our inability to run out games now complaining about a second half where we kicked 8 goals to 1.

They were always going to come out swinging in the greasy conditions, and our inability to hit the side of the barn ultimately flattered them in the first half. And inaccuracy is ultimately on the players to fix.

It’s not even about running out games.

It’s more-so how the gap between our worse and best during a game is like playing as a bottom four side vs. a top four side.

It’s massive.

Can imagine was tough to get the motivation levels up for this game, few poor moments cost us in the first half clearly but class won out at the end. Very frustrating that we’re not feeding the ball at every opportunity to Reid tbh, times in the first half he’s got an easy 1-2 but the other player thinks better of it? This kid is genuinely all class give him the ball as much as possible it’s maddening, should be our daicos honestly

Worner needs to remember who he is and not try and make plays like that especially with walker knocking on the door.

Switkowski is a senior leader and is deadset afraid of taking a shot at goal. He can’t be relied upon in a clutch moment and at the moment is offering very little to compensate for this.

Dudley had a ripper first half I thought, good tackles and some clever touches

Jacko was very fumbly and could have had a good day if not for that, Darcy looked better for the run

Treacy is unreal and him and Bolton are our best performers so far!

Takes time to build into the season. We want to start seeing full match fitness coming in from about next week.

Wind back 12 months - we are light years ahead of what we were producing then.

Absolutely not satisfied and we must expect better. But... Context. Can't be playing perfect footy in March. There are great signs that we may be firing on all cylinders soon.

30+ scoring shots first 3 weeks. LTSI

If it is, it didn’t really show in this game. Had more of everything too in the first half but failed to kick straight. We were 3.9, 1 minute before half time and then started finishing.

It seems like people don’t watch many other games, you do what you need to do to get the 4 points / percentage and enjoy it. No teams have put together a perfect 4 quarters and even if you do, it means nothing at the pointing end.

140% and third, I’m happy.

Great observation.
People aren't giving JLo and the coaching team enough credit for the carefully constructed long-term plan coming to fruition. Scoring fixed. Mid-forward connection fixed. All the experts poo-pooing two rucks and a forward line that's too tall and a defensive game plan etc etc. I haven't heard anyone yet say, 'JLo just might have more going on than he's given credit for.'
Anyway, stil early days - I agree with the comments that the next two weeks will give a great indication of where we are at.

We could have won by 150pts and people would not be happy around here! It’s comical!

I thought Chapman had some good moments. Has hit a few targets inside 50 the last few weeks. Think we have been a bit harsh on him this season. He's played on Jezza and often also finds himself isolated in d50 on a small/medium which is impossible to defend.

Erasmus and Johnson really coming along nicely. That midfield depth is solid. Not worldbeaters, but uncompromising and play their roles well.

Happy for big Sean but am petrified for him at the centre bounce for the next 2 weeks. McAndrew and the pies new ruck will jump all over him at the centre bounce. It's interesting how McRae used Darcy Cameron sparingly at Centre bounces on Friday night. Basically an admission that he is uncompetitive there with the new rules. I wonder if it's feasible for Darcy to never take a centre bounce against a primary ruck. In 60seconds can he get his butt off and Jackson to the centre square. Even if LJ gets jumped over the top of at least he plays like an extra mid.

I’d be pretty happy about.

Would mean we’ve finally gained the ruthless edge required to be a premiership contender.

As other people have said, I'd genuinely suggest watching some other games. This Richmond group did the exact same thing to Gold Coast last week, before they pulled away in the second half. Are we writing them off now?

I'm not suggesting we don't have things to work on - I think pretty much every member of the playing group has said that on camera or mic at some point over the first three rounds. But if we convert even a third of the shots we shanked here and against Geelong, and even the weaker halves of footy we've played this year look significantly different.

This time last year we were dropping games we should have won to Sydney and getting rinsed by an 0-5 Melbourne. Think it's reasonable to suggest we're going ok by comparison.

We blew way harder than the ‘cyclone’ in the first half

Out hustled and hunted in the 1st half , ground them down to dust in the 2nd but jeez that was deadset sub standard opposition to look THAT BAD ???

I dunno man

I just don’t know

  • Switkowski trying to pass when running in on goal.

That attempted pass from Switta was horrible. One thing that is making us a better side this season is that the players are much more willing to have a shot on goal. Just have a go next time Switta.

Really? We still won the half anyway. It was 5.9 to 5.3 so sort of tells the story that we were wasteful. Nothing was rushed through and I recon we had 4-5 easy shots that would be goals 80% of the time.

Smacked in contested possession in the first half , replace 2 of the 20 year old twig key position players they had out there with Nank and Lynch and it would have been game on

While we were inaccurate I think the amount of scoring shots we're managing so far is what shows the difference between this year and last year, we were dour, boring and low scoring through a fair amount of games last year, but this year we're bursting out of the gates and looking to impact the scoreboard, there's less hesitation to back yourself, it didn't work out too well today, but I'd rather our players back themselves to kick at goal and miss than fumble it around trying to pass it off like we did last year.

We're dominating general play so far, that may change once we play some better teams, but I'd say we're progressing really well so far.

Before the year started id have probably had about 10 key's to improving from last year
  • Ras and Johnson stepping up
  • Jackson being one of the best players in the comp
  • Bolton returning to his best
  • Moving the ball more aggressively
  • Reid improving on moving on ball
  • Cutting out slow starts
  • Keeping Pearce on the park
  • Keeping Young on the park
  • Amiss returning to form
  • Getting some dangerous smalls

8 out of 10 so far with the MASSIVE disclaimer that two of our games have been against bottom 6 sides. Can only play who you get though. Beat Pies and Adelaide who I dont think will be competing at the pointy end and we really start to get excited about where the year is taking us.
