We should run all over them. Reidy or Darcy in. Young in. Aish comes in. Or Ras.

Jackson has been huge but we will go in favourites and should still expect a 6 goal win minimum.

My only concern is some of our best overlap runners O’Driscoll, Jackson and Wagner were hurt.

Losing our one ruckman changed our structure completely so it made absolute sense to adapt the way the game was played into a tight arm wrestle. How about giving a bit of credit to the boys in the back half who did an outstanding job in the last quarter. If we tried to turn it into a run and gun fest we would have been really out run and out gunned. 1 goal was all that was needed to clinch the victory and much respect goes to the guys like Voss, Treacy and Amiss who won some really important contests along with Moose who took such a great mark when he was way out of position..

If all you want to see is the pretty stuff and no grit and grind watch some NBA games as I think footy may not be for you.

I really do wonder what you expected from the team and the coach in the circumstances. Play attractive footy on no legs and get beaten?
Was it the first time we only kicked 1 goal in the last quarter?

Sure losing Jackson and NOD was a major factor. Dogs lost Vandermere early.

Once off, no issue as you said about Jackson. A lot of last quarters we didn’t look like scoring.

Apart from the West Coast game, we have kicked a total of 3 goals in 3 games in the last quarter. 3 goals against a very weak Eagles team isn’t a great result either.

The point is that the team is very predictable in the last quarter and keep kicking long down the skinny side of the ground. Sure, the Dogs man up and we played into their hands kicking it to English which resulted in stoppages which they had a ruck advantage.

We had the inability to create space on the fat side, no switches or run and carry or hitting up leads.

Our team won by grit, Dogs inability to score and a bit of luck. If you are happy with that, you don’t have any expectations of this team.

Not surprised to see Reid up there in the km. He seemed to be everywhere and knew where to be. Very impressive fitness for a 1st year player in HFF role
<This!

He seems to be at every contest and always front and center... You don't see him running very hard - but just jogs a lot. Exceptionally smart as he doesn't burn energy.

I remember being told that to make it as an AFL player you don’t need to be good at everything, but have 1 big strength and apply it to the role you play in a team.

This game was a great example of what Sharp brings to the team where his power running really came to life with no interchange rotations left and 3 injuries.
Wasn’t perfect sure, but his run was crucial in the last, rapt with his game.

Super impressive for Murphy Reid.

90 plus percent game time. 14.6 ks ran.

Only concern is how he pulls up the next few weeks.

Our defence stood up today , they are the backbone of this outfit
Draper needs to stop pushing in the back , but he was excellent
Needs a bit of coaching from McPharlin.

Rance and McPharlin were smart in disrupting the forward by quickly grabbing then releasing, and elbowing the side as the ball was kicked. Too many players do it too late and give up frees.

Yeah cheers, I do have Seven plus and it doesn’t seem to be appearing on my account, based in Vic so I expect they are only putting it on in WA. Will have a look again tomorrow and see if it can be accessed by then though!

I actually thought Amiss was good, saw a bit of the f negative commentary on here.

He competed hard - have a look at Dudley’s goal and it sums up his game. And he was outstanding in the last as the lone key forward competing on those get out kicks, whilst outnumbered.

He’s not dominant but he’s still young, and, at the current rate tracking to kick 36 goals for the year.

If his form builds could easily go 40+.

Just got done watching the game with some friends who I'm trying to brainwash inspire to be new members of the purple army. This was a very enjoyable game for me. It had it all. Back and forth scores, sh***y ump calls, a torn guernsey, a back line that stood up over and over again. Here is my analysis:

+
Soooo many good things. Where to start?
  • Serong 38 touches and a ton of clearances. Yawn. 😂 The guy's a machine.
  • Tracey with the strong hands.
  • My buddy Jackson. He's been having an excellent year. It's like the Roy Kent cheer from Ted Lasso. "He's here! He's there! He's every fu**in where!" How many players impact the ruck, the midlfield, defense, offence? The answer: No one. When he went down with a hammy, I was not a happy camper.
  • Brayshaw. Great 150th. Loved that he got a goal. He had a lot of pressure that won't be reflected on the stat sheet.
  • No folding in the second half. I could feel it from here, the crowd was nervous and on the edge of their seat in the fourth. It felt like they felt the team was going to fold. Our record isn't great in close games, so we need to celebrate when we get it right.
  • Moooooose in the fourth Q. He had a very solid game. I liked that they moved him from Darcy to Naught. I think this allowed him to peel off and not be as accountable for marking his man. A lot of people on this board were hard up for Naught a couple years ago (before they were hard up for L. McDonald). Glad how things turned out.
  • Drapes. Kid's a player. nuff said.
  • Our defense over all were barraged and attacked all day and they did an excellent job. The disparity in i50s was mental. They saved our a**es.
  • Ried. Seriously. WTF. So classy. Does the #16 proud. In four games, he's only had 8 turnovers and 27 score involvements. Surely, he does not belong on our team. Ha!
  • Dudley. Seriously. WTF. Another goal for this little man.
  • Bolton. Building nicely. DAMN, I wanted him to land that mark on Rory Lobb's head more than I've ever wanted a mark. He showed why we paid what we did for him today.
  • Effort. Down a rotation. The youngest team this round (again. Somehow. How do we keep getting younger?) stood up and did what they needed to do to get over the line.
  • Voss. He's not a ruckman. He competed. English was having his way, but you can't criticize him. Can't be easy.
  • Coxy and Ryan. Dang, they were back to their best. The only criticism is that Luke didn't rip off the guernsey of that dogs player and throw it in the stands. Oh well. Maybe next time. 😂😂
  • The crowd. Passion. Just oozed through the TV. Keep it up, purple army.
-
  • The umps. Seriously. Wtf. My friends who were watching with me know as much about AFL as I do about nuclear medicine and even THEY could tell when the umps missed holding the ball/incorrect disposal. I think we stopped counting at 8 or 9. I'll be issuing a "please explain" to the AFL this week. 😠
  • Fumbles. We still are not clean in our disposal and too many times we fumbled and bumbled the ball. If we clean this up, watch out.
  • Game plan. Too slow. Too much time to let the defenses set up. When we have a player who's taken a mark (especially in our back half) that stops. Waits. And then kicks it down the line. It drives me crazy. The Dogs have a great game style....however, saying that, we did win, soooooo maybe we don't need to change anything.
  • Backwards disposals and running. Stop it. Just stop it. Now. I'm not kidding. We must the team that handballs backwards the most.
  • Amiss. I don't know what's going on with him. He had some nice moments in the 4Q, but he just doesn't have any rhythm. Is Tracey sucking out all the oxygen from the forward line? Is he down in confidence? Is this his role? I don't know, but I feel like he's got another gear that isn't being used at the moment.

There's more I could say, but I need another Guinness, so I'll end it there. Bring on the Tigers!

That was the plan, kicking it to the skinny side down the line in the last quarter, once we were men down with less rotations.

We needed to create stoppages and lock it in. we did the opposite in the Sydney game , where some of the kicks weren't and we got exposed and cut up on the counter.

Without the legs to carry how you'd expect fast break style and playing into the oppos hand. Few times they did get out , it was like this could be it, game over, they are going to score. Lucky for us they weren't able to convert

backline with a vastly improved performance, cox and ryan back to some of their best work i thought. cox had some real go and took some good intercept marks. ryan moved the ball quickly and hit some beautfiul kicks. the defence work in moving the ball quickly after withstanding some heat made it that much easier for our forwards to capitalise.

think johnson showed just how good he can be today, has a real footy brain and is great in congestion. boltons agility is really incredible, can pull shit out his arse, so happy to have him. dudley has some tricks as well looks to be good for the level so far!

treacy is just a beast!

The lads tightened up everything in the last quarter.
They thought they were going to get overwhelmed by the dogs.
This will give them some belief.
Confidence is a big part of footy.
Well until last week we hadn't won since July last year, I thought it looked like we had forgotten how to win. The second and fourth quarter today should remind them that they can

When you control the ball the defense works harder than the offence.
Making the ground bigger with switches.

Refusing to score to save a game open a massive gate for the other team to win.

Even Pavlich made the same observation as I did regarding kicking down the line.

Good game. Not too many passengers. Cox looked more assured and his cuddle buddy Lukey back to his best. Really need Jye to sort himself out.
I think Jye played better when he realised that Voss and Treacy are needed up the ground and he needs to lift.
He still seems to pay too much attention to his opponent and not the ball or what's happening up the ground.

Shout out to Mcmanus on the 7 commentary team. Wasn't happy with the umps.
Good on him but I really wish it was someone that wouldn't be accused of bias straight away by neutrals just because they used to play for us.

Tbf I've seen plenty of neutrals criticise the umpiring but we need someone high profile in the media to do it. That way the spotlight is on it all week. Unfortunately it takes losing a game you shouldn't for that to happen. Happy we won instead.

Biggest positive was finally seeing a fast kick in from Ryan and going coast to coast for the goal! Never thought I'd see the day...
There's been a change the last two weeks IMO. Chapman as well and Cox to a lesser extent.

Having Ryan and Chapman play like that so it's not just Clark will make a massive difference.

I agree with that point. Hoping we can bring Simpson in down back, not sure there is a better team to bring him in against. And if we can continue to build up Chappy and see more intercepts followed by run and precision 40-50m bullets we will cover ok.

Banfield will most likely go to the wing. He has shown enough on the wing to say he will have an impact.

Jackson is a massive out. He has been excellent this season. When do we know the extent of the damage?

I am looking forward to him playing midfield when Darcy is back. I hope they pull the trigger on that.

Missing that bigger body - which is why Erasmus out was baffling. Young, Fyfe and Brodie also out of the side doesn't help.
Shouldn't that be Johnson's role in his absence? Only had the one clearance on the day. It's annoying because I know he's got it on him.
