Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Cam Nairn

Na as four pillars pointed out lance Franklin was one of the hardest trainers on the track from day dot. Leigh Matthews had a presence since he was getting a game at 17 for hawks, neither of these players attitude was ever questioned. Calsher not to be dramatic could simply be lost to the game cause it's simply not what he wants to do in life. Hope that's not the case, anyway back on track is Nairn Guna feature for box hill this week?
Really, Franklin was one of our hardest trainers at 20 was he? Did you go out in Melbourne in the mid 2000s? If you did you probably would have seen Buddy quite frequently. Not holding it against him as I have no problems with players having a beer, but Buddy was wild in his early years.

Ever heard the term work hard play hard? Ben cousins? C'mon mate 😂

Yes he was.

Probably the least present at training for all the star footy players was Gablett Snr.

reportedly in the 1989 grand final, he knew the first name of only one of his team mates. Billy.

Conversation dynamics is an interesting field isn't it? I mean how many times have you listened to a couple of blokes behind you on the bus and heard the topic change three times in 5 minutes. And don't get me started on bus prices and how oil prices will affect fares. What with the war going on in the middle east.
And every three months, a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile in north Queensland.

Hopefully not Cameron Nairn.

Observation from 3 different training sessions during the off season:

It’s very difficult to spot what’s wrong with many players in rehab - you see them doing laps at a decent click and wonder what could possibly be wrong with them.

I’ve watched Nairn in the rehab group running laps and run throughs and he looks a specimen - he’s certainly got an AFL body - some kids in their first year you can see they need a few pre seasons - McCabe is a good example of that - McCabe after 3 pre seasons now has an AFL ready body - Similarly, Nairn has the body of an AFL footballer.

Zero visibility on his footy IQ and ability atm - but if athleticism has anything to do with it - he has it in spades. Hope he gets a run this week at Box Hill and gets a good block of games under his belt.

This reminds me a little of Langford junior

I'm going with Leigh Matthews, purely based on the outcome I want.

After reading this last page I can also confirm, Cameron Nairn tears apart a crocodile in the NT at least 4 times a year.

Bodes well for his career imo.

Cam is a footballer that’s for sure.

Extremely skillful, and a high footy iq, has played multiple different positions in his underage stuff too. Isn’t getting enough praise which is a given since he has had an interrupted pre season.

Cannot wait to see what he can do.

I haven’t seen the BH game against the Swans yet, but sounds like he had a great first up performance!

Given he had an interrupted pre-season, looking forward to him keep building and hopefully pushing for a debut in the second half of the year as he’s got the skill set that can can really add to the afl team.

I was at the game and of our newest recruits Dalton was clearly the standout.
Perez looks like he's ready to plug-n-play. Greeves was excellent but his defensive pressure was bit of a let-down.
Dalton looked like he belongs and more than that he really wants it.

Nairn did some nice things and it's obvious why we wanted him, he seems to have all the traits Sam looks for - athleticism, endurance, football-nous in regards to positioning and ball movement. Very good skills.

Probably near Cameron Nairns

Had a good second up game and hit the scoreboard - is building nicely.

Hard to get involved as an outside player when you're midfield gets smashed and you're chasing arse all game.

Didn't get a lot of the ball but every time he had the ball he made something happen though. Very clean, one touch. Rarely fumbled even under pressure and uses it very well.

I don't know what his best position is yet - 3rd tall up forward? High Half forward? Wing? I could even see him being a Sicily replacement with his aerial ability and kicking.

He currently gets a bit lost on the wing, although I think a part of that are his teammates not using him as often as they should.

He looks incredibly effective as a medium marking tall. His first quarter against Geelong in the VFL he had 6 disposals, 3 score involvements, 2 marks and a goal. Then he struggled on the wing.

I’d probably like to see him develop as a Gunston type in the VFL, then expose him to the wing when he’s fully fit and confident.

Yep - I think we found one here. He has a lot of AFL quality assets.
