Can’t remember Caleb Serong in his junior days, but the Serong I see now has really good vision to hit players in space. That’s not Tanner. When he gets it in tight, he tends to have close handballs not releasing someone on the outside, or looped handballs over the top, so he’s not often creating fast damaging plays like Serong. Serongs’ footskills are way superior today but we’re inconsistent in his early years. Tanner could improve, but he has pretty clear limitations today.
Having said that, the few games I saw Tanner last year his skills, particularly by foot, were poor and his first game a week ago similar, on the weekend though he was better…

Can he be like a caleb serong type? Small, inside bull who racks it up.

Or does he just have even worse foot skills, and his hands aren't as good?

As long as he can feed it to Lalor, Hotton, Smillie, Cumming, and Seth can still be very useful. Especially if he can cover the ground both ways.
Good call

“I do love Caleb Serong from Fremantle,” Armstrong said recently.
I feel like our games are quite similar, the way he attacks the ball and goes about it. But I also love Liam Baker from West Coast with how he plays in the backline but also goes through the midfield.”
While there have been some knocks on his speed, he is a versatile and competitive player.
Armstrong recorded the third-highest rated game of any Talent League player in round 2 on the weekend, racking up 30 disposals (16 contested), nine clearances, eight tackles and one goal in his side’s draw with the Bendigo Pioneers.

I think tanner picks himself on that kinda form

Much more like Ben Hobbs. Watch his games.

if we were able to get Nick Madden as a ruck in a trade.

Who would you target at this point for the below picks:
Round 1 (range 1-3)
Compensation from bids in top 5 (range 19-23)
Round 2 (range 23-27)

For me it is:
Round 1 - Arki Butler
Comp pick - Noah Williams
Round 2 - Archie Van Dyke, Kodah Edwards

I can see Armstrong (30 plus) and Daffy (50 plus) slipping a little

A sneaky looks to 2027 draft Taj Garrett and Max Thompson

Tigers NGA Tanner Armstrong was best on ground for the Bushrangers in a typically industrious display. He won a lot of ball at stoppage with his clean hands at ground level a feature, helping to initiate a lot of his teams attacking moves. Tanner's disposal was more damaging than we sometimes see from him, hitting up leading targets nicely and releasing outside runners with handball.

A real day out for Seb Marsic who almost single handedly kicked the Chargers to victory with his big bag of seven goals. He presented strongly all game and took a couple of really nice contested marks, but absolutely maximized the chances that came his way on the day, and it'll be interesting to see if he can back up this performance going forward. The most impressive part of his game might have been the tackling pressure he applied which is valuable trait for a modern tall forward.

Armstrongs kicking looks ok in that package. A couple of turnovers. Doesnt kick it a long way, 45m seems about his distance, but low and hard.
Couple of nice bits of play on the outside too, to compliment his strength (contested ball)
Looks a Libba type from that limited vision.

Not sure if it's been asked/answered, but if you can only use two picks to match a bid, and top 5 bids are likely to mean you need two first rounders. Wouldn't that mean one less pick in the first round, or in other words, the pick that is lost from the matching the bid, is allocated to the bidding team (but at the end of the first round)?

For example, if we finish last and bid on Walker with Pick 1 (3,000 points). Blues match with their pick 8 and currently Sydney's pick 9 (2,798 points).

That means there are now only 17 picks in the first round. Add our end of first round pick and it's back to 18.
I think this is exactly what the AFL is trying to do.

However, it would still push back our second round pick by a few spots, as every team in the top 5 affected gets a compo pick.

E.g. if we finish last and bid on Walker at pick 1, we'd gain picks 2 and 18, and the teams who finish 14th-17th would gain picks 19-22 (provided they still held the picks). This pushes our second round pick out from 19 to 23.

I think this mechanism should hopefully kill priority picks for good, as bottom clubs will already be getting extra end of first round picks.

wed be silly not to give him a go just because his kicking is a bit iffy. so is tarrantos and hes our best player. have picked kids with far less ability.

As long as it's not one of our top picks. If we have to give up our late 1st rounder, ill spew. (Highly likely AFL change - compo of missing/pushed down on top 5 pick).

I was thinking this was going to be a bit of a horror show given some of the reviews of his first 2 games, but there was plenty to like from his in and under work at the stoppage, to his ability to break away from stoppage and use the ball effectively. Sure there were a few disposals that didn't quite hit the target as intended, but rough edges can be smoothed out. When watching this I picture him as Meatball v2.0 who would compliment the bigger midfielders we've recruited the last couple of years.

Fantastic, thanks for generously making and sharing this - amazing work. Tanner looks great and could definitely complement some of the bigger midfield types we have drafted. Better disposal than I expected - I can see Lachie Neale, Dion Prestia and Rhylee West traits and style - optimistic and happy to add that style of player into our future mix
