Wow, so Geelong are going to rewrite Smiths contract, no more years but pay him substantially more as one of the best mids in the competition.

This gets even funnier.

I’ve read all the commentary on here but not commented on the topic. Yes Smith was BOG and a machine against us. But he is also a butcher of his disposals.

I’d prefer to have smith get 35 touches against us than Bont get 25.

I’d prefer to have someone remotely as good in our midfield

You’ve have just picked the best player for the last 10 years though.
Everyone would prefer that.

Strange thing is with Bailey Smith kicking was considered to be the best, elite even of all the mids in his draft year, both accuracy and penetrating wise.
Now he seems to mostly just hoof it as far as he can more generally with little thought to lowering the eyes and picking off the best target.
I read somewhere over the summer that Smith and Holmes are being coached to carry and kick long as a way of breaking defensive lines. I seem to remember that Holmes said somewhere that his perfect possession is a 65+m result.

Smith is a loose cannon as a human, but he's an awesome modern day footballer. His kicking can be questioned but even if his possessing the ball seems ineffective, at least he regularly keeps the oppo defending.

Well ****. We’ve all been saying that since 2016

Remember the post Modra/pre-Tex years when the line was “We haven’t had a decent key forward since Modra”.

Then we finally got a forward line and spent the next decade and a half not having a midfield.

Frankly I think it’s time we started losing finals by having a midfield, a forward line and no defence. Just to complete the cycle.

I mean, it was short lived but he has a point.

The first like 6 rounds of 2017 Sloane was a machine.
Peak Sloane was very good.

But... Rachele broke lines and "bull strength" to win contests.

Last Crow to really do that was Danger. And Roo before him.

Those 2 are in a different league to Rash in the physicality stakes.

Wouldnt have thought bull strength is what we saw from him
