****wit Christian graded it as medium impact??

Wardlaw got up and was able to play on without any issues whatsoever. If that’s not assessed as low impact then they may as well get rid of the low impact level rating. It should get graded correctly at the tribunal to Low Impact.
  • Medium Impact: The contact resulted in more than minimal impact. This includes situations where the victim player left the field for a length of time, or where the force was significant enough to cause, or have the potential to cause, injury.

  • Low Impact: The incident had minimal impact on the game, and the opposing player was able to continue playing without major, ongoing issues.

Low vs Medium is a moot argument.

Literally the #1 change to tribunal this year...

(A) GRADING IMPACT FOR INTENTIONAL STRIKES
Intentional Strikes to a victim player’s body or head will usually be
classified as Medium Impact at a minimum (resulting in at least a
1-match sanction), rather than the previous grading as Low Impact.

Unless we can argue this is the exception to the rule...

Now, Hayward's swing is totally on the minor end. But Hayward aside, I'm glad they're getting tougher on deliberate/international gradings.

The AFL has been giving weeks to football incidents for years, where you have to watch a replay on frame by frame 40 times over to determine guilt.

At the same time they've repeatedly let players off with fines for (minor) deliberate off the ball hits.

It has seemed that the AFL wanted to discourage contests, especially those involving split second decisions. But were OK with players belting each other off the ball. Was such a bad message to be sending to young players...

Unbelievable.
Knew it would happen but still think that's unjust.
Hayward swings arm albeit late vs a behind the ball unprovoked gut punch (essentially a king hit). Make it make sense.
If the AFL want to stamp out the thug stuff behind the play then come down hard on it.
With any luck the AFL will appeal the decision.

Well picked up ferris - I didn't realise that intentional strikes to the body can now be classified as medium impact even if the physical outcome is of low consequence / impact.

I wonder how consistent this ruling will be applied. Call me cynical, but if it was a player in one of the AFLs favoured teams and they were at risk of missing a grand final, I think they would find a way to let him off.

Barry Hall rule... :p

Undoubtedly it will change throughout the season depending on the player.
