My comments on Hollands were not based on his last two games. His first season at Carlton in 2024 was fantastic and he was very consistent despite it being his first full season at AFL level. He is the exact type that a lot of the great clubs in the AFL take a chance on.100%. Hollands is the second coming of Mcgovern. Milking Carlton and will play well when he decides...you are excited by his last 2 games but watch his first 2 which were WOEFUL. He was due to be dropped so then produced. He will do a McGovern and drop away as soon as it isnt required.
Basically a conditional footballer. But also because he has zero speed, turning circle of a ship. If an opposition club put 5 seconds into him, he will fold like a pancake. In space with time he is excellent but the game doesn't give you that very often. And Carlton as soon as he shows form wil ladd him to the midfield because they are dumb. In the midfield he will get caught like a salmon and flap.
I mean all of this in the context of his personal life preferences, the difficulty of the AFL skill level. I'd want him in my team at a lower level where he would thrive at the slow speed. Here, conditional wouldnt be a thing.
Paddy could play another 3 years easily, but he has to make goalkicking a strength.Exactly, so what more is there to lose? Our issue is not that Cripps is too slow, it is that our entire midfield is too slow. Our issue is that we have Cripps and Hewett and Cerra all in the midfield at the same time. If Cripps were surrounded by more explosive midfielders, he would be able to use his inside ball winning ability + leadership to make others better. I see him transitioning more forward, with smaller bursts through the midfield across the back end of his career, but I think his inside work and his leadership makes him an asset of the Club - and I can't see him retiring at 31.

I'm going to watch with interest. So far as a person, he has looked after himself. My comments on Hollands were not based on his last two games. And as I said in a previous post in another thread speed is great but it's not all there is for a player to be effective in the modern day. What's just as important is being able to use the ball and have a good footy IQ. Elijah has this and we desperately lack it as a list. Not to mention he can hit the scoreboard. Yes his first two games in 2026 his execution by foot especially was poor but he was still trying to make things happen.
No club wants Cripps from 2027 onwards.Anyone think Cripps to freo a likely outcome?
Cripps and his family return to Perth?
Would freo need/want him ?
Well i didn't say we need Bailey Smith, I said he's exactly the type of player we need, but if you work yourself up into a foam over it, by all means...
Not that your reply means jack shit to the point I was making...
So What if Sam Walsh beat him one on one? So what if the Brisbane mids did?
The point is we need someone who runs hard both ways and can deliver the ball.
All you've offered is a 'My Dad's tougher than your Dad' type senario...
Why B Campo after Lord? Why Lord just before B Campo? It's a list strategy that doesn't make sense and doesnt seem orchestrated. It seems reactionary.
Because we don't need further inside mids with Cerra + Lord/B Campo. When we also have Cripps/Hewett.Why wouldn’t you?
Ben Campo was an All Australian mid who cost us what was pick 63 before the draft when Geelong bid for him.
Just because we’ve got Lord doesn’t mean we’re not going to need any other midfielders.
Because we don't need further inside mids with Cerra + Lord/B Campo. When we also have Cripps/Hewett.
Because you need to understand opportunity cost. What one decision costs another. Drafting both Lord/B Campo means you dont draft other options. Like leg speed, or elite kicking to help outside transition.
Other opportunity cost issues...
E.g.
Hudson Okeefe is blocking Austin allowing the team to recruit a young jumping/taller ruck via draft. But HoK isnt going to make it due to height/jumping. Wrong type for the game right now. But he is a blocker.
E.g.
Young blocks austin recruiting a proper second key back and has done ever since he upgraded his salary. You notice Austin put him up for potential trade and no takers at the salary point.
E.g.
Fogarty blocks recruitment of more small forwards or investing higher collateral in the small forward space.
What age is Cerra? The Camporeales are 19. Lord has just turned 21.
Hewett is 30 and Cripps 31. Should we wait until they retire to draft replacements?
Definitely, Paddy has transformed himself off field a couple of times in his career. I remember the year he hired a person running coach over the off season and came back to explode as a much fitter and complete player, leading to his first Brownlow (either that season or the season after).Paddy could play another 3 years easily, but he has to make goalkicking a strength.
I’d personally like to see Paddy play a quick early quarter burst in the middle, rest up forward and on the bench then come back into the middle with 10 minutes of game time left each quarter.
A split of 50% mid, 20-30 forward, 20-30 bench
But he needs to go to work in a major way with his goalkicking, and coming up with a routine that he’s spent hours upon hours perfecting.
What age is Cerra?
Where is the game moving?
how many holes do we currently have to fill? Inside mid isnt one of them.
Where do you rate our current 3 rucks? I have them as the worst ive ever seen them and we have had it bad over 25 years.
That's the thing with people who can remember everything verbatim like yourself Stamos; zero analysis skills.

Cerra and Lord is fine for inside mids. We dont need B Campo. No role for him. Or via planning, it should have been Cerra plus B Campo. Just not both when there are so many list holes elsewhere.
If you cant understand this...we need to stop talking to each other. I dont want to have to spell it out every time.
So your one of those who believes that everyone wants to come to Carlton, and if they end up somewhere else, then Austin has failed. How do actually know Austin wasn't interested and wasn't banging on his front door every day trying to get his signature??There was a realistic option previously before Reidy called Meek. Obviously Meek turned out a quality ruckman so austin was not interested. And Meek was gettable unlike D Cameron.
No club wants Cripps from 2027 onwards.
Carlton will want CrippsLong shot, but possibly WCE would be interested in Cripps to be a mentor for Harley...
Believe Ben isn't even close to AFL quality, so it's a wasted list spot
Lucas is a slightly better chance

Each mistake is small in isolation but eventually add up to a huge impact of failure.
Who should we have drafted with pick 43 and pick 54 two years ago?
