NOW to sometime later in the year (maybe) - Talk about anything

Out til mid June lol. Wont mention it again. From what I saw he played Half forward. He was very classy and clean considering the conditions. He would've had 10 shots himself and handed plenty off. Brouwer was another level. 2 good gets
I enjoy the injury updates H.

Brouwer related to the ex-boxer Scott? I knew him as a kid.

No Tribunal listings on the EFNL Website. Still has 2025. I am sure that with all the games played, there would be at least 1 listed. Or is there a new page for that now?

Time to make ridiculous conclusions after just one game. Making it even harder to get a gauge was the wild and changing conditions on the weekend. But let’s do it anyway. It’s what footy's all about!!

Thanks for the player points numbers adock

WINNERS

East Ringwood - a convincing belting to match the pre-season hype in Week 1.

Noble Park - will give them a cautious pass. Lost, but Rowville are tipped to be good, and they only went down by 9 points at Seebeck.

Mitcham - coming off relegation is not easy, as history shows. But they've dispatched a high-quality Boronia side first-up in a great performance.

Mulgrave - a bit of hype about Ringwood with a number of recruits this year... Mully went to Jubilee and knocked them off first-up. A remarkably low 27 player points in use, and a 10-goal win for the reserves. Are they flying under the radar a little?

Whitehorse - up a division and recording a convincing win in both the seniors and reserves to kick off the D3 campaign.

Upper Gully - recruited well and recorded a strong win against an expected finals contender in Knox

Forest Hill - perhaps a strange nomination but got the four points, and their Reserves joint venture with Surrey Park recorded a big win over the Nunawading / Berwick joint venture. You would think they have more hope of possibly getting some of these players to Forest Hill full-time next year, given they're close geographically. Not so Nuna - nobody from Berwick is travelling to Nunawading full-time to get belted each week.

LOSERS

South Croydon - a 12 goal loss in the rain, at home, ain't the way to start a season. Under the pump already.

South Belgrave- don't care how wet it was, only kicking 2 goals in a game of footy isn't good. Particularly when you've got a forward line being paid more than the executive of a listed company

Mooroolbark - a convincing loss at home to the newly promoted Devils suggests it could be another long year for the Barkers. Also had 41/46 points employed with their VFL talent on the park - so the squad quality is only going downhill from here. The Reserves were belted, signaling there's not a lot to come in.

Scoresby - two straight flags and as Surrey Park have shown, it's quite possible to carry that form up into Division 2. First signs not good with East Burwood, who finished eighth last year and heralded few recruits of note, heading out to Scoresby and taking home three wins. Are Scoresby set to struggle with the step up? 40 points used and the Reserves were smashed.

Lilydale - went down convincingly to Croydon in what some thought could be a relegation battle preview. Along with Norwood, inexplicably left in their division by the EFNL after finishing last in 2025. Unsure whether runners-up Templestowe and Donvale were offered the step up in their place, but you would think it would've been the smart move by the league.

Coldstream - well... they kicked straight at least. Could be another long year for a club that would surely be better suited playing genuine local footy against their neighbours in the Outer East comp.

Oakleigh District - rumours of player shortages could have some merit as they fielded just 19 reserves players, with none of them having jumper numbers assigned in PlayHQ (a sure sign there was a lot of late phone calls for fill-ins happening). Beaten convincingly across both grades.

Coldstream would be middle of the road Outer East Division 2.

I watched the EB v Scoresby U19's game. The second ball up of the day was paid against the EB ruckman, with the umpire pointing to the centre line to indicate the ruckman had crossed the line. However, looking at the video the ruckman took off before crossing the line to contest the ball that was on the Scoresby side of the line by close to a metre. I had assumed that if you jumped before line you were OK or did the umpire make a mistake? It would help if the umpires could throw up the ball straight or allow some leeway if the ball ends up on one side of the line. Can anyone explain the new rule.

Other clubs shouldn't be punished for their malfeasance.

Box hill north would feel pretty hard done by seeming they've been pillaged.

Also if a player from BHN moves to Doncaster, are they a auto 2 pointer? D3/D4 Vafa to D4 EFNL?
Box Hill North have gone into full recess for 2026.

Another prime example of the lower tier clubs cannibalising each other to survive.

Reckon a lot of BHN is self inflicted after the black face/St kilda school girl outfits on there silly satday. The female captain standing up an the club doing bugger all till is was in the media.
No doubt Donny/Nuna coming back wouldn’t of helped

Depends on the scandal of course but sometimes it’s just dumb luck if the club happens to have somebody capable of handling it.

I know it’s a cliche but these clubs are run by part time volunteers and we’ve all seen people in those roles who are literally doing it because they put their hand up when nobody else would.

Something comes along and you have the media involved and it is proper crisis management that CEOs and PR spinsters get paid big money to manage.

And then often our good friends at the council turn on the club because they have their own “standards” - developed over many years by highly paid council officers, of course.

Sometimes its tough to blame the club when someone does something wrong and they’re left to try to pick up the pieces without a shovel.

The perpetrators move on to a new club.

100% correct
GWH all over again

Spot on. I’ve always said that volunteers give their time after work and family—and sometimes it’s work and family that end up missing out. There must be countless people involved at local clubs simply because they feel guilty and think, “If I don’t do it, no one else will.”

On top of that, the pressure keeps growing. Between EFNL and league officials, council requirements, food handling and ground management rules, state government regulations (Consumer Affairs, liquor licenses, RSA), and Federal obligations like GST and BAS—plus plenty more I’ve probably missed—it’s not exactly an attractive position to take on.

I believe clubs and volunteers struggle for three main reasons:
  1. They don’t have the resources—there just aren’t enough volunteer hours to fill all the roles.
  2. They don’t have the capability or skill set for certain roles.
  3. Clubs simply don’t have the cash to throw around.

Great Day out at Waverly Blues yesterday. The new clubrooms are amazing and look to be similar to what East Burwood's new rooms will be like when they are done. Great Crowd and the Reserves and Seniors games went down to the siren. Both clubs have a great rapport with each other. Thanks to everyone from WB's.

Note: WB's time keeper (forgot his name) is a legend; he did every game. U19's, Women's, Reserves, Seniors, and the Vets, as well as input the Live Scoring. I only had to do the Seniors. Thanks for the laughs and hospitality.

Flicking though the results an found the reserves ladders in all divisions really interesting reading (if you’re a nuffy like me I guess)

The variations and percentages are massive and clearly tell a story of those clubs struggling to even put out numbers.

Some strong sides in the seniors clearly have basically zero depth, while others are struggling across both grades.

Some teams do load up on the seniors, hoping for very few injuries, which comes down to luck rather than good management.

Merv certainly is a legend, always a pleasure to do timekeeping with and having a beer or two with.

If you're EB timekeeper, I will see you on Saturday, as I am the senior timekeeper at Croydon and have been for quite a while.

If it’s the same old fella it costs them a lot of cans. Enjoys a drink.
Great clubman.

Cheers Nick, it is still Merv.
Has also umpired over 400 cricket games.

Great Nick, we did it together last year.

Yes Merv it is. I’ve asked EB for an increase of cans for time keeping as Merv has set the standard of payment. Might have to go to the Fair Work ombudsman. 😂

A beer or 15 in Merv’s case and has been that way for many many years 😂

And a pack of darts

A good timekeeper is like gold as it’s a really hard role to fill - many people don’t like to do it as you’re often isolated and away from everybody else. Suits those who like to really watch the game.
