That appears a club policy, if a player comes back from a long term injury as their contract expires they usually give them an extra. Been a few like that over the years.
Tell that to Miller Bergman

Um....

Didn't think he was that bad.

Relative to his own capabilities of course.
Yep. He gave everything he had, it's just not anywhere remotely near the level.
I'd love CCJ to get dropped, but I suspect they keep CCJ in and bring in one of Dawson (who will compete and tackle to hurt) or Goad (athletic ruck) to split the ruck time with CCJ.

Yeh look I don't rate him. Slow of football mind and body.

But limiting assessment only to the output of CCJ using his own talent and recovery from injury as guidelines - he's improving week on week.

Now would I think Teakle, Maley, Campbell or chubbspeterson would've been better break glass list options?

Hell yeh. But we've only got CCJ in a bit of brilliant list management and he's doing his clumsy, 1990 standard ruck athleticism best.

Just can’t play him this week
EFA

Right from the beginning most of us thought we overpaid to get a fringe player in, and he's now been on our list for 5 seasons.

As others have said, I'm not sure why we let players like Teakle, Maley etc go, and retained CCJ. Not that those guys were superstars or even particularly good, but how has CCJ performed any better than them?

They were battlers rucking at VFL level. None of them are capable of being an AFL level ruck.

Maybe we should have kept Tom Campbell.

One of the more recent baffling list management decisions of the last few years, particularly when you consider what a great person he was to have around the club.

Baffling? The guy is a borderline VFL/Local football standard ruckman. I'm a great guy to have around the club but you don't see me whacking a jumper on playing ruck.
Keeping CCJ ahead of Teakle is the more baffling list management decision

He's managed to convert that 'borderline VFL/local football' talent into 14 years on AFL lists across 4 different clubs. Has played a total of 58 senior games. Must be some kind of record.

comparing the pair their stats are almost identical except for one key metric, hitouts, one can actually ruck.

How many of CCJ's kicks are round the corner with a one-handed drop that go up the chimney for an easy intercept/turnover?

He's done that twice in the last two weeks when he had an easy handball option to a midfielder who was facing goal and could have taken space in front of them. I think it was LDU against the Blues and Powell against the Lions. He also snatched one out of Wardlaw's hands against the Blues to do the same thing. Diabolical.

2 metre privilege.
