Carlton cannot legally say it is drugs or alcohol they have to protect the players privacy, so we will probably never know the full truth. Especially since he won’t go to court like the first time he was caught with drugs on him by police.
His behaviour didn’t align with alcohol use in my opinion

Maybe alcohol mixing with anxiety meds? Agree - we may never know. The absence of public comforting from players and coaches tells me they are over him.

Well, the footage from the collingwood huddle for the post game presentation and those attempting lip reading suggest pies players indicated he was under the influence of alcohol based on what he said to them and the smell. Whether it was drugs, alcohol or some chemical imbalance, to have more than 60% game time including nearly a third of the last qtr before the pin was pulled is gross incompetence

The Carlton Football Club can confirm that Elijah Hollands has been admitted to hospital this evening.

While the Club acknowledges the public’s interest, it again asks that the privacy of Elijah and his family be respected.

This request for privacy extends to the media to please not report or speculate on Hollands’ location and private health information.

Deeply concerning but at least he is in the safest place for him right now

I hope he gets the help he needs and the tools to have a safe and fulfilling life when hes ready

Nothing but thoughts of support and empathy for him and his family. Mental health is a such a scary thing that is still juvenile its its research and recovery because it affects people so differently

Praying Lij is okay and he’s getting the support he finally needs and his family is holding up okay.

I know what he’s going through and it’s extremely tough. Doubt he will ever read it but I sent him a private message on insta to show my love and support.

I really hope as a club we stand by Lij and support him past this year and he remains with us.

I'll be pretty disappointed if that's the last we see of him if this was actually just a mental health episode but if this was the result of drugs and or alcohol then i wish him all the best in life after footy.

This is the image that upsets me the most.

You could only imagine the thoughts that would have been going through his head...he would have felt like the loneliest person in the world at that moment of time :'(

Get well soon young man 💙💙💙

Agree - the emotions sort of hit me this morning and I saw this photo again and must admit I was basically in tears.

Just feel for what this kid is going through.

I feel this so deeply as someone with two young sons. We've got mental health littered through my side of the family (myself included) and I'm desperately hoping it somehow avoids my boys.

As much as we're all feeling for Lij, his parents (and Ollie) will be experiencing one of the toughest weeks of their lives. I hope they're getting the support they need as well.

Not only possible, it is well known he has mental health issues that require prescribed medication.
I once took Valium and it had a wild reaction on me. We'd had both sets of parents over for Christmas cocktails at our house and I may as well have been on the moon. That was me just trying to sit at the table and converse, can only imagine what would've happened if I'd tried to play a game of football in that state.

I have no idea what's happened this week but there are plenty of explanations around medication that could cause significant issues.

My post was in reply to the constant attack he was receiving by many of my 'learned colleagues' here on big footy, reminding us of his actions in letting down our esteemed club that has given him nothing but unprecedented support in his short time with us.
