AFL Player 5: Elijah Tsatas - dropped 😱

It feels like his inclusion has led to Parish playing better as well. He's clearly worked on his game and is someone who very much deserves to keep his spot.
Its a combo of tstatas helping with the clearance work load, Parish just finding his feet after a long lay off and I also reckon 2MP doing the majority of ruck work has also contributed.
I feel like because of his size parish really needs a big lump in the centre to do blocking work, in the past stringer, Setters and Draper have been this guy but to start this year we had all small mids plus the smallest ruck in the comp as our midfield group. 2MP may not be the best tap ruckman but he has regained his physicality and is big step up from Blakiston in size.

Interesting isn't it. A lot of folks saying they could never play in the same midfield.

I think even Brad Scott himself probably thought this at times too. And yet, albeit of a small sample size, not only can they, but they can do it effectively.

It has also helped Merrett spend time outside of the midfield too, rather than him having to carry the enormous burden that he has for years.

It’s not a matter of just giving him a shot and now Scott being made to look silly. Even as a long term naysayer I thought the timing was right, as he had showed significant improvement in the two vfl games before being selected. Selecting him before his disposal and composure ball in hand had improved wouldn’t have helped his confidence. Scott and co have played this one well.

Without naming names, the last 2 games does make a mockery of the football IQ of some people on here who had put a line through a kid who had played 16 AFL games, and no more than 2 in a row
No it doesn’t.

There were very justified concerns re his ability to play at AFL level that had nothing to do with games played and Scott clearly shared those concerns.

Yes there is improvement (you’d bloody hope so), but still far from clear that’s he’s a long term AFL footballer.

A good barometer for him is the marks he's taking. Last year he didn't seem to be able to get involved in the game after the ball had cleared the stoppage because he didn't have the tank to keep up with the game. This year he's able to get touches in open space, as evidenced by taking more grabs than usual, so his running power is definitely improving. He still has work to do, but things aren't hopeless for him.

For some time now his kicking has been tidy in the VFL. The issue for mine has been his running, looks like 3-4 preseasons are now starting to kick in after basically missing his first year and under 18s year to injury.

Still very curious about his GPS numbers as he is still often on his haunches at stoppages, but that might be just his mannerisms as he’s done it since day one.

I would add to this, i think he is also getting more ball around the ground because his teammates don’t try to avoid him like they did last year. He is making good decisions, and playing with less fear (of kicking at least)

I do think he, parish and everyone else are also looking better because we are not turning the ball over as much in silly spots so our midfield are not having to sprint up and back the way they were 4 weeks ago. Winning clearance also improves that.

Still an issue I reckon.

Has built enough that he’s more involved around the ground offensively (although not to the point of providing real outside run) but he still never gets out of a jog defensively.

There is improvement, but quite a bit more needed.

I don’t know that it was, and last week against Melbourne there were still a number of lofted kicks with very little penetration.

I think it’s now at the point where it’s manageable within the role he’s been asked to play, and he’s doing enough other stuff well enough that he’s not a net liability.

happy to be proven wrong, whilst hes not tearing it apart, hes been solid, and a good level above where I thought he would ever reach this year

Maybe. I’m not talking about people having ā€œconcernsā€ though. I’m talking about people putting a line through him for good. People saying he shouldn’t even play VFL. Etc.

He deserved a chance. And he’s proving he deserved a chance.

Pretty sure it is a grand total of zero people who have said this.

I did, and I can’t find even 1 example turbo
I wasn't replying to you, big dog. Not sure you could read the whole thread in 15 mins? Anyway, it happened (along with plenty of other pretty poor postings)

Some people on here are miserable bastards. They're the type of supporters you see at a game, they will only be there to rag on the player they hate, and never cheer the team on. We've all seen them I'm sure. The worst type of supporter imaginable.

Well you’d be wrong. Go read through this thread chief

I would like this back and forth, but the use of ā€œchiefā€ and ā€œchampā€ has really given you the upper edge. TouchĆ©.

For the record, I’m absolutely a tsatas doubter. People have ranged from ā€œthere’s no point playing himā€ to ā€œI don’t think it’ll translate to afl, but you may as well give him a game at this pointā€, as well as ā€œwe’ve ruined his developmentā€ and ā€œwe need to play this kid, he’s dominating vfl, he’s gonna make us look silly playing somewhere else next year.ā€

I fall into the 2nd one. The ā€œI don’t think it’ll translate, but may as well give him a go and see what we have.ā€ He’s has a good couple of weeks.

Regardless, not one poster, who fits any of those categories, has said ā€œhe shouldn’t even be playing vflā€.

You can disagree without needing to exaggerate. It’s okay. The world will keep spinning.

I didn't. I'm not going to name and shame the person. Go have another read boys. I'm just pleased that Elijah has been given a chance, and we'll hopefully have a better read on his future after a few more games in a row in the seniors

That’s fair.

Just flick me a DM. I’d hate to think my speed reading failed 😢

I wouldn't even be playing him in the VFL. Tell everyone he has a dodgy knee or something, maybe a club will back themselves in to fix it. He's a former top 10 pick, after all.

Anyone who has watched him play gets it. Everyone who hasn't cries "oh but we need to see him to know if he can play".
He can't.
Found it. Hank has always disliked Tsatas. Hardly 'people'.

Why did you dig that up? Hanks been shamed and now everyone knows my speed reading is shit
