NO TROLLS Elijah Hollands (GC-Carlton): Recent Developments & Mental Health Wellbeing

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Out of interest , why do you think people take mind altering substances? I'm not talking about this case in particular. Why does society have a problem with drugs & alcohol ?

Also, have you personally taken too much alcohol or too many drugs, and then behaved in a way you later regretted?
Firstly:
Recreation
Escapism
Environmental factors
Coping mechanism

Humans have been altering their consciousness since the dawn of time. From huffing Jenkem to smoking crack we just can't get enough.

Secondly:
So many times in such cataclysmic ways I generally steer clear these days.

Anyone else feel this story is getting blown way out of proportion? Like its good to raise awareness of some issues, but its a media frenzy, and I don't think it's going to help Elijah too. It feels every little thing is a major news story now.
Every one of your posts anywhere is so depressing and sad.

Lighten up ffs

isnt that only for performancing enhancing drugs ?
hardly looked like performance enhanced to me.
Weed and prednisolone are considered performance enhancing. Let's not give the system too much credit.

Dunno if he was in the bests at any point in the year but he was getting the ball a far bit during the previous 5 games and had kicked 5 goals.
Maybe they were hoping he’d come good or not wanting to knock him off his game?
The way that Carlton played it was there most intense Preformance for the year I thought, wouldn’t be surprised if the leadership group and the Coaches had put it on the players to bring their best effort.
Which is what you’d expect.
Does look like he couldn’t cope with it.

Very interesting.

lol ..turn it up

Ya really grasping the straw there Peter.

Not sure what you mean. My original foray into this issue was to simply point out that Worksafe investigating Carlton was unsurprising and noted their action against Essendon as a precedent.

Exactly what am I grasping at? Genuinely interested.

Regards

S. Pete

At what stage do we all stop blaming everyone except the person who went out there when they were in no condition to?
So the guy who couldn’t control his limbs, his erratic behavior and was clearly impeded should have also had the mental faculty to make the absolute right decision.

Quite literally why we have Doctors, Psychologists and footy departments making decisions for 24yr olds on a daily and weekly basis within footy clubs… who aren’t impeded.

So many people on here are desperate for a positive drug test for Hollands. To validate what exactly? Your prejudices ?

A request, can people actually read the thread rather than post the same thing 50 times? You didn't come up with the idea that Hollands may be on drugs all by yourself , just this very minute. Others may have had this idea before you. Read the previous pages.

He couldn’t hope with this game because he was obviously speeding off his dial on something.

If he was impeded by something he took then he needs to take responsibility for his actions

Do you think the Carlton doctors assessed him multiple times throughout the game, but could not deduce that he was under the influence?

No one really gives a shit about Hollands ..let’s be honest.
It’s not like he has cancer or something horrendous.
He’ll survive without football and has a good family around him.

What we want is answers from the CFC and their stupid head coach.

Because this incident is the most disturbing moment in football history and we want punishment dished out in the most severe way.

Voss banned for 10 years is a start..
half the footy players are dumb eccentric bogans, it doesn't surprise me that Holland's twitchy behaviour wasn't picked up. They've got a footy game to play. They're not in the job of cuddling and checking on everyone's welfare pre-game.

Anyway, he won't play afl again.

I can see how its possible it broke him before the game and he chose to take drugs.
If the truth comes out we’ll know.

It’s not one or the other

It seems on par in negligence to Port sending Allir Allir out to play with a clear concussion, however I don't remember this many pitchforks were out for that.

There’s no doubt what so ever he was impeded by something.

Anxiety episode or not … he’s broken the most important rule as a league footballer.

Don’t turn up on game day baked.

Player Concussion vs player displaying disturbing maniacal behaviour

Two very different situations

yeah, one situation is costing the AFL millions of $ in legal fees, insurance, along with brain deterioration of former players.

the other is... more dangerous? less dangerous? or just more scandalous and juicy? help me out here.

btw, port fully witnessed the concussion and knew he was concussed, but sent him back out there anyway as it was a final they were desperate to win :thumbsu:

Under the current system, literally the only way we'll ever find out if Hollands was found to be under the influence of recreational and/or prescription drugs, or alcohol, is if Hollands himself consents to the release of that information.

Which of course he would not do, because why would you?

So anyone weirdly hoping for a positive test/evidence is waiting for a day that will never come.

Yeah but no one cares what happens at Port Adelaide..

So just like Franklin ..we will never know but it’s known by everyone without official acknowledgement.

Because right now picking on the guy who's literally had to be hospitalised is a pretty shit thing to do.

The broader issue is the duty of care and how he was allowed to be out there.

The word “ broader “ has been officially banned on bf.
