Autopsy Swans get their kicks by 66

Logan has a quiet night, but what he did do was contest. Got his hands to the ball in a lot of contests and got it to ground.

When it’s not your night , that’s all you can ask
I have no problem with Logan but … if McLean has another good game today, I would rotate him in.

Strong performance across the ground, nearly everyone contributing. Showed that we have another dimension when the opposition shuts down the corridor.

Dogs may have been undermanned but we put them to the sword and are running games out superbly. This is the most complete Swans team I can remember for a long long time. I liked the subdued team song apart after hyping up Cootee and Edwards. Just a professional performance from a team with big aspirations.

Despite all that, seeing Naughton move his legs after an eternity was the best moment of the night.

So odd to see some still choosing to focus on the negatives. We're flying at the moment.

yeah, difficult to understand, and even harder to read some of the nasty sh1t being piled on ... twas ever thus

we just beat a despised opponent by 66 points, without heeney and gulden, after giving up a three-goal lead ... we held them to 42 points after the first 10-12 minutes, we're 6-1 and we can only beat what's in front of us ...
two promising debutants, one who might be the big key defender we've been craving for years ...
for the sake of perspective, where were we this time last season?

I thought Charlie had a good game but at the risk of sounding overly critical his defensive efforts in F50 are a bit - how can I put it - Carltonesque.

On a brighter note, I don’t think we should underestimate how valuable these wins without Gulden are. If we’re near the top of the ladder when he comes back, look out.

He could learn a thing or two from Amartey in that regard.

Outstanding game though and just what his confidence needed I think... A game where we actually relied on his performance to get in front.

Having played an extra game, there is only 1 team with a lower total points against at this time than us…..Defence is the absolute improvement.

Got the rub of the green against the bulldogs surreal. Few marks that they called play in with late spoils. I’ll take it though.

Matt Hill shown in the commentary on fox doing a silent celebration when the dogs kicked a goal as if there needed to be any evidence of their bias. Riewoldt going nuts that the ball was out. Are you sure mate? Embarrassing stuff.

First three goals to the dogs was scary. Bont was incredible early,

Papley score involvements were big he had a very positive game. He looks fit enough now.

Some really bad unforced clangers that seemed to keep the game close early. But really composed link up work. McCartin was fantastic and a solid even contribution I felt from most. Warner and Rowbottom slow to get into the game but then contributed well.

Based on what we've seen so far we should definitely finish top 6, most likely top 4 and quite possibly top 2.
We've demolished an undermanned Dogs, early Brisbane and away Suns and I do mean demolished, not just won. Beaten who we should have beaten in GWS, Eagles and Carlton and again won well. Our only loss to a fellow contender at their home after a short break, undermanned and ran out of gas. But we were outcoached IMO so there should be good learning from that.
Not much more we could get right until now.
We have an average winning margin of 60 points and our lowest score of the season is 82. This team can score. Which is what we need come finals

Defensively we have only given up more than 70 points once. Incredible start to the season scoreboard wise

The dogs tried to emulate what Hawthorn did to us with an extra number back around the arc and constantly pushing the ball out wide whenever they had it, where we can't do as much damage on the turnover.

I noted that Papley mentioned in his interview post game that countering this was something we worked on and prepared for after the Hawthorn game.

The promising thing is how well we were able to adapt. When the corridor was unavailable we were still able to transition quickly along the wings instead. We were then utilising the tall forwards more in the absence of space at the top of our 50 where we usually score so many of our goals.

Seems like we have a bit of a plan B coming together.

Our structures forward of the ball have been incredible this season, we are lowering the eyes and generally trying to hit up the forward with the most threatening match up.

One thing I have noticed is compared to previous years we are really not allowing the spare defender to one over the top regularly, and this is one of the reasons I am loathe to drop McDonald for McLean (who I think has had more good games than bad).

McDonald is a fair bit more agile than McLean and spends a fair bit of his time leading his man away from the contest, McLean is also better utilised closer to goal which means he would be possibly getting in Curnow and Amartey's way.

Defensively you are 100% right, and will dona seperate post for that one.

Cox was definitive about Heeney playing next week.
I wish he would clear up where Melican and Hambling are at.
He made a comment about wanting to make sure they reward players who do their job in the VFL which I think most coaches would pay lip service to, but we seem to be taking very seriously.

I thought neither Melican nor Hamling did much wrong.

Few people have spoken about our scores against this season and wanted to give my two cents.

Firstly, feel like we are better structured behind the ball in general play, a big reason for this can be having the extra leader behind the ball in Mills, whilst we can be a little vulnerable to quick movement most teams in the league are currently.

We haven't allowed many bad defensive match ups because of this (I also thing Serong rotating back has helped here).

Rampe is also having a deceptively good season and was once again solid last night. Same with Wicks.

McCartin has been nearly the big improver in the team (which is saying a bit as I think he was an exceptional player for us over the last few years), but having Curnow as a one on one training partner has probably taken his game to a new level.

Lastly our chaos game up the field allows us to directly pressure their ball carrier if we turn it over via hand (due to having extra numbers around the ball), this is allowing less "clean" looks for our opponents going inside forward 50.

Another thing we have done is pushed teams wide when they do go inside 50 so their shots are a lot harder to convert

Perhaps that physicality Edwards showed was what Cox was wanting?

Don't care how depleted they were.

If I can beat two teams each year it's GWS and Bravedogs.

Satisfying as a good morning surprise from the wife.

Coffee and doughnuts ?

In fact doughnuts is exactly what I get every morning.

I gotta admit. I was a bit worried in the first 15mins or so.

After that. The gears the lads went through. Was pretty remarkable.

Once Bont was neutralised. It was akin to a cat playing with a mouse.

% of 178 and change. Yikes.

That poor kid will have nightmares of Brodie

When he dropped Melican he made a very definite comment that I can't remember exactly that strongly implied he wasn't playing his best footy. He shouldn't be running players down and he hasn't
During the broadcast I caught sight of Hamling celebrating with the other 2016 Dogs. My guess he was given leave. 🤫

Not sure Bont was ever truly neutralised. Amazing the effect these top players can have on a game.

Heeney and Guilden are huge outs.
