For me there has to be a change next year (next week?) if Cripps is to stay in the team needs to have his role reinvented.

Sam Walsh is the anointed one but that is a symptom of where the club is right now.

My contention is we need someone from outside our system to reset the culture.

The only player I think is captain material is probably too old in Nick Newman but maybe could bridge it for a year?

Do we trade in an established leader to take the mantle?

Sound off!

So disappointed with Walsh tonight. Weitering is a massive no.

Nobody in tonight's team is ready. If we go on effort, then Brodie Kemp should lead us.

haynes could have been that but have to think his place on the list is in jeopardy. also age, not quite had as good a year as last. spoke of the difference in standards when setting foot in the place, so had he been in a position to have any effect and not a newbie, may have instilled a few things.

put cowan in his preferred place on the field and give him the jersey. maybe carroll.

It has to be Walsh, only player who kept running both ways and like he cares (albiet his disposal has been horid). Everyone else on the list is too old and too young to take the Captaincy. We probably going to Marc Murphy him.
See I think Captain is a specialty role, not an award for the best player.

Leadership can be learned (cotchin and riewolt changed markedly) but just being better than your teammates has given us multiple individual awards to great players but no great team, right back to Murphy over Carrazo or Simpson, Judd is the only one who balanced that ledger and not that well.

Fair point, but if you look at the list. There is no one on our list that meets that criteria? We don't have a general downback like Wilkie, we don't have a spear head like Larkey.

Throw the chequebook at Lachie Neale, give him 2 years with an option for a third and make him the captain.

There is zero leadership at loserland, er sorry, Carlton. None at all.

I see Harry Dean as future captain. Plays with passion. Doesn't take a backwards step. May have gone a smidgen too far at one point but nowhere near Luke Hodge lining up a player's head into the goalpost and he is seen as a great leader.

Unfortunately not his time just yet. Wish Newman was younger but hoping he has 2 to 3 years left in him.

Concede it will likely be Walsh though but don't see him as captain material.

Another thought (not serious, but just thinking)...If Voss and Cripps goes, George Hewett...?
