For those wondering who TMH is, that is Harry Van Hattum who is currently seen as the likely first available pick after Cochrane and Walker bids.

Checking ladder predictor this morning and their current prediction is

15th Carlton 28 points 86%
16th Essendon 20 points 73%
17th Richmond 20 points 67%
18th WCE 20 points 66%

I can see a situation where WCE does take TMH if they finish last as they'd be looking at the same sort of thing that we've been looking at in partnering him with Sims, they could look at CDT & TMH as a partnership down the track. Certainly adds a bit of interest to the rest of the year

no way west coast take another ruckman while they have CDT, they need everything other than a ruckman

Yeah ok, we aren't finishing last, think the Eagles are high possibility to end up 18th.
Carlton still have to play Essendon, Eagles at home and us.
Essendon play us, Eagles at Optus, Carlton at the G, 3 weeks in a row.

So I think by about round 15 we will know the bottom 4 positions.

HARRY VAN HATTUM

Club: Victoria Metro/Northern Knights/St Marys FC/Ivanhoe Grammar

Height: 205 cm

DOB: 01/07/08

Bio: A developing ruck prospect, Van Hattum made a serious impression during the 2024 under-16 national championships. His performance against Vic Country was outstanding, logging 14 disposals, seven marks (six contested), and a goal to be one of the best players afield. He went on to enjoy an impressive bottom-aged season with the Northern Knights in 2025, averaging 16.2 disposals across five matches and finishing fourth in the club's best and fairest count. Van Hattum further showcased his talent in the Under-17 Futures match on AFL Grand Final day, contributing seven disposals, three marks, 11 hit outs and a goal for Team Docherty. A player who possesses exceptional athletic ability for his size, he demonstrated that during pre-season testing with some elite results. Van Hattum’s running vertical jump was 103cm, he ran the 20m sprint in 3.01 sec, posted an AFL agility run time of 8.29 sec and recorded a Yo Yo score of 21. While a thigh injury limited him early in the Talent League season, he was impressive in his sole match against the Oakleigh Chargers, recording 19 disposals, three marks, two goals and 20 hitouts. Van Hattum is also a member of the AFL Academy and showcased his considerable talent in two matches against VFL opponents in April, averaging 10.5 disposals and 12 hitouts.

His athleticism is crazy
I imagine we’re definitely interested in HvH, but I’m getting worried about how bad the bottom 4 teams are this year. No guarantee we’ll end up with pick 1.

Do we think West Coast have someone else in mind other than HvH? Or is it HvH for all bottom clubs?

It would be absolutely crazy for WC to take another ruck that early

Melbourne (and to a degree Freo) have shown it doesn’t work and neither of them came close to expending what WC would to pair the two together

If we do finish second last and the team before us takes TMH, I'm ok with taking Arki Butler at pick 2.

Butler will be a gun. A midfield of Lalor, Cumming, Hotton with, Butler, Armstrong and Grlj rotating through will be super elite. That doesn't even factor in Smillie.

Don't forget we will still get low picks at the end of 2027 and 2028 too.

Just need to target a ruckman from another club this off aeason (which we will do anyway)

Another strong SA U18s performance from Kodah Edwards showing all the traits we've come to expect from him. He was powerful in contested situations, always willing to apply physical pressure with a tackle or a bump and strong over the ball when winning his own footy. On the outside he ran hard and found plenty of dangerous space ahead of the ball, able to involve himself in a number of scoring chains. The torrential rain in the second half made things difficult for most players but seemed to suit Edwards bash, crash and surge style of play.
