Autopsy Round 8 | St Kilda vs Carlscum

Really enjoyable win. We're continuing to build.

We've seen enough now to be clear that Flanders isn't getting it done in the midfield and is looking good at half back. We're close to a man down when he's in midfield. I'm sure there will be times in the future he gets back into the midfield, but we don't need to force it at the moment and we have other options.

Didn't love Garcia and Macrae in the same midfield. Macrae seemed to reduce Garcia's midfield time, particularly in the first half. If Garcia is out injured then Macrae is a handy in, but we have moved past him in my opinion.

Hall looked good again in midfield when he was in there. Ross seemed to acknowledge this after the game also.

Not quite sure what our best way to use Windhager is. He's solid in lots of roles without being great in any.

Its beating up on the school bully when you are now an adult and a successful professional and they are now an unemployed junkie who couldn't even continue daddy's business.
It is being smug that your cold dish of revenge is being served year in year out.

Absolutely F*** Carlton. LET THEM ROT.

Hope they never win again and they fold the absolute bunch of bastards.
May their and Essendon's century of humiliation continue

Seen a lot of praise for him already but I honestly reckon that was Dougal's best game for the club. He's so important to our structure and his absence last year was glaringly obvious.

So glad we held firm on Ro. Having that extra height in the forward line and around the ground makes us look so much better.

The first half was ugly because Ross got his stoppage tactics wrong. Tried to double team Cripps and we got obliterated at clearance

Everyone that's watched Carlton this year saw that second half coming - they go to sleep at HT every week without fail. Psychologically fragile, sure, but it's been like that all season, it's not like we got lucky on an off week for them

Lucky that they have become broken mentally though. A good side doesn't let you have long rest periods before you decide to put the foot down. We need to go from beating Carlton, WCE and Richmond and start knocking off sides like Sydney, Hawks and Freo. We have ticked off a few wins that we should have but the next month can set us up for a finals tilt.

Agree. Would've been nice to knock off a Collingwood or Adelaide to make the job easier but if we can somehow go 2-2 over the next month I think that sets us up super well to attack the rest of the season. Genuinely think we could go 8-2 to finish the season - more realistically 7-3

People talk about their autopsy being a must-read, but their game day thread is where it’s really at.

Laughed so hard at some of it I had tears pouring out!
It was beautiful to read it was umpires fault and the decent into despair from about page 23.
However the absolute highlight was Bulldog85 chiming in bagging out JSOS when he defended Garcia when Cripps chicken winged him.
To go on to a game thread of an opposition to lay bare your jealousy and bitterness that we got JSOS over them ( and kept Wilkie after their unserious offer) was truly pitiful. However it was very enjoyable 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Carlton fans must be feeling blue now. I guess that's why they call them the Blues.

Booing TDK and JSOS is a mistake, they should be cheering them. A couple of players saved from irrelevance.

Once when the Saints where irrelevant, Carlton tried to kill us. Do I want to kill them off? Hell no, let them suffer and suffer forever.

Now off to the Carlton board to water my soul in their tears.
We should have picked Dow as well just to rub their faces in it. Actually we could have played SOS and we still would have won.

MRP will be quite interesting, I think they'll pretend the chicken wing tackle just didn't happen.

I don't believe there was any malice at all in the Dean incident with Henry but they should give him a week regardless. If we're giving a week for gut punches as behaviour we don't want to see in the game, then I think you have to suspend for what he did as the potential for serious injury is way too high and the same message needs to be sent.

I love that Jack Riewoldt suggested post-game Richmond should try to get into Cody Walker's ear (apparently he qualifies for their NGA) as they have more of a future than Carlton.

A: He's not wrong
B: Imagine the melts
C: They wouldn't have to worry about the AFL's switcheroo on draft rules any more

How good would it be.

I don’t think anyone is happier for TDK than Marshall, you can tell it’s not put on either.

He’s genuinely enjoying his football, contrary to how everyone expected him to react this year.

Whether he ends up at Geelong in 2027 or not, I hope Dodson uses this year to build his tank because he’ll be needed sooner than we think. Just about every club is running with the dual ruck combo.

Does anybody actually listen to that shit. Thank god there isn't a Saints Radio, that is so cringeworthy.
An absolute embarrassment. Especially Maher.
That could actually be fun if handled right - be an improvement to hear commentators regularly barracking for us. Make it tongue-in-cheek and biased as hell.

Montagna, Dal, Riewoldt with special guest Eric Bana.

Sam Walsh with the most vanilla 24 disposals since Jack Billings.
A no.1 pick who is just ordinary, slow, ineffective and those clowns just signed him for 8 years.

I would settle for having the full blues radio audio synced up to a replay.

Maher is full nuffie it's hilarious

Purple pushed it pretty hard on the sunday footy show, sensed he wasn't impressed. He even mentioned Michael Christian having to make a decision on it this week.

Havent been on here much this season, i think last time was when we were 0-3 and I said I was keeping the faith, I think we're starting to see what we were expecting after such an exciting pre-season, but there is still a lot of opportunities for it to click even more going forward.

Some thoughts so far, partly on last night, partly on the whole season.

  • Wilkie and Sinclair are incredible players, all time greats for our club now and are doing a seemingly great job as captains.
  • JSOS is a more capable true KPD than I thought he was, he is a good addition, but I am liking Howard in the team at the moment.
  • I expected Hill and Wood to be forced out this year but Hill is in the best form of his time wirh us IMO. Wood has been down, but had some really big moments and is still worthy of a spot.
  • Windhager and Owens are becoming really consistent, reliable players. The leaders of the emerging generation.
  • Philipou is showing signs, he is a 60/40 forward/mid. Hes starting to use his size really well and it feels like we havent scratched the surface yet.
  • We all take Nas for granted already, its crazy. Hes in AA form and we are still probably a little disappointed because this is the first year he hasnt significantly improved. The forward experiment wasnt a success, but its a card we can play at any time.
  • The ruck duo is still a work in process. I dont think dominating Carlton is proof of anything, but hopefully it gives them confidence to build on.
  • Sharman and Owens are doing a commendable job. If we had a gun 200cm KPF they would look so much better.
  • I was wrong about Ryan, I didnt want him but he brings class and toughness, a great match with Higgins.
  • Flanders has been pretty disappointing, I think he needs to spend less time in the midfield.
  • Garcia has been a revelation, went from probably 21st-23rd picked to one of our most promising.
  • I think Macrae will be in and out of the team depending on Boxshalls form and the fitness of others. It is a real luxury to have him available when needed, but as others have said, we've moved past him.

The most important things to consider:
  • Flanders, Owens, Philippou, Sharman, Nas, Windhager have all played less than 100 games.
  • Wilson, Hall, Garcia have played under 50
  • Higgins and Ryan have played less than 10 games together
  • Wilkie, Silvagni and Howard/Caminiti/Tauru have all played less than 10 games together
  • Marshall and TDK have played less than 10 games together.

This team has so much upside its not even funny.
