Honestly it’s not that surprising.

I said hawks even if it was mild (then he’d miss Sydney).

They’re going to be ULTRA cautious

Sounds like it includes the conditioning block at least. That's the ultra conservative approach already added. Poor Maxy. Must be a massive kick in the balls to have your toe in the water and get a set back.

If Max plays most of the 2027-2032 seasons (6 more seasons after this one) at the sort of level we saw glimpses of yesterday, and perhaps helps us win a flag in that time, I don’t think anyone will be complaining too much about his contract then.

Especially as it’s been front-ended (a big part of the reason they gave him a new one when they did) and in the latter years he could be on serious unders.

If Pou is indeed on a mil a year, we sound like we got Max for a bargain price, and hopefully we’ll get bang-for-buck in the last 6 years of the deal.

It’s clearly gotten off to a bad start, and could indeed prove to be a bad deal for us in the long run, but that is yet to be determined.
That’s a very positive outlook . I was trying to take a step back and look at it in this perspective, but can’t help the glass half empty view . But good on ya.

Has any player ever missed 2 straight years of football, and come back to have a good career?

Joe Daniher must have been similar. So must have Curnow.

I think the soft tissue injuries will settle down with conditioning. The knee is right at least.

There's a lot of mayo on this 6 weeks surely.
Buying some breathing room for Max.
He'll be back around the Bye give or take.

It says it includes conditioning and taking no risks.

Guys, as a former remedial therapist, I'd like to point out that a strain can involve a tear to the muscle body or tendon. Having said that. people saying he's torn his hamstring are being over-dramatic.

The important thing is that a tear can be small/minor, or there can be a big tear. That's where the various grades come in.

Sometimes a strain can just be a bit of overstretching or overuse, but sometimes it can be bit more.

If he's missing 6 weeks. It would be possible there's 2-3 weeks of damage and some more conditioning and monitoring to be done. As others have said, nothing compared to what he's gone through and it would be unusual if he returned to footy after 2 years without a few strains here and there.

Curnow is the one to cling on to but I think at this stage Max is surpassing even what he went through.
Daniher seemed to have loads of injuries at the Bombers.

Alex Pearce missed 2 years and has now been a best 22 and captain player for Freo for about 5 years,

It says it includes a conditioning block. Might only be a 2-3 week injury.

At the same time. If he is needing that much time off from a 'minor' injury, you just have to feel for the bloke.
The pressure on him would be huge.
The body just doesnt want to cooperate with him.

This feels like that episode of South Park where Randy Marsh is chasing the dragon on Heroin Hero and Max King is the dragon.

6 weeks is frustrating but knowing it includes a conditioning block, it doesnt seem that bad considering everything. Hopefully it has him ready to go or at least much closer to playing at AFL level compared to how he looked first up last week.
The injury was the bad news, however the leads, clunks and goals prior to that was the good news.

I prefer to think the goodness of the good news outweighs the badness of the bad news.

So definitely two steps forward and one (unfortunately largish) step backwards.

It could be worse, he could take two steps forward and two steps back like Paula Abdul.

People forget just how good this bloke was as a young player. Numerous ACL injuries and missed 2 years then came back to win a B&F and play a key part in Melbourne's late 90's rise all the way to a GF.
