I fail to see how this is obviously Austin’s fault? It could’ve been as simple as - he wanted to stay in the northern states (he’s an NT lad), then that ruled us out immediately
My cousin is married into the Rosas family, has heaps of family in Melbourne so if we wanted him we would have been a big chance.

personally I just think we need to stop treating McKay like an elite key forward. He should absolutely be a forward ruck.

Maybe not a ruck but McKay looks great up the ground as a roaming centre half forward, the closer he gets to goal and the space closes up, he stinks it up. Let him loose

Surely you know by now that every player wants to come to Carlton, and if they end up somewhere else then it's all Austin's fault.....you know, failed list management, he didn't try hard enough and all that stuff.

Reckon most of these posters complaining wouldn't have even heard of Rosas before today 😂

Of course every player does not want to come to Carlton. Captain obvious and shows where your analysis level is at. Actually, hardly any want to come to us.

Hawks convinced Barrass and Battle to come and fill certain roles. A really hard thing to do. They got it done, and by association their list mgmt team get a bit of kudos. They targeted 2 very specific players right? Hawks werent there at the time...they had to work very hard for both of those players.

Carlton have a lot of holes in the side...So Austin can look at a lot of opportunities to shine here. However the players he is targeting just isnt working out. I'm sure he is trying hard. As an aside Armfield tried hard for us also. Joseph tried hard for us also. Trying hard isnt enough.

So trying gets him a 5/10 at best. It's not that he is a disaster, he just cant get it done when its hard. I mean what does successful look like for a list manager??? Florent? Hayward...zero planning for those two? Reidy? Acres who cant kick in the modern game? And Acres is his best trade.

It's time to dismiss apologists like yourself. This type of defence of the club has seen us have 25 years of abject failure.

4 years to Reidy
6 years for Williams
4 years for Pitto
5 years for Cerra
8 years for Walsh

Get rid of this goose
Reidy was 3 years, not 4, which is still ridiculous for a bloke who was close to being delisted. I would’ve preferred us getting Mason Cox for a one year rental in all honesty.

Why do people laugh at Cox? He has a great record as a back up ruck

with the draft changes, if we don't finish bottom should we be looking to downgrade our first to say GC as part of a player package and match a Cody bid with SYD+GC 1st rounders, carrying the difference into 2027?

Assuming they are pick 12 and 16 or so?

Only problem with that is if we downgrade pre draft it will incentivise clubs to bid early knowing our hands are already tied. He is all but locked in top 3 but the difference between being called out first or third is still quite big.

But if we could turn 3 + 16 + 27 into Walter and enough points to match Cody, I would take that in a heartbeat.

Cox is completely average if not below average, however he is very good at moulding to a system, and he has been developed and coached very well to do so.

We would struggle to get the best out of him like we do a lot of role players.

Gold Coast have nothing in the first 3 rounds this year.
Not sure who else they would be trading out to get a 1st?

3 + 16 + 27(in a very strong Draft) for Walter plus still get Cody?

If we could pull that off, then skip Walter and invest in Van Hattum etc.

Couldn't agree more.

The forward line is more dynamic and functions better without him there full time. If the club insists on keeping him then he needs to be re-purposed as a ruck forward and we can run him and Pitto because Pitto and Reidy is not good enough.

The guy is actually good at rucking, has pace to follow up and it gets him up around the ball where he doesn't have to think so much and he can play more instinctly.

The club needs to get over the idea that Harry is an elite key forward, that time is long past and if we're not trading him then lets at least get some decent value out of his input.

We might struggle to get the most out of him but he is much better than average if you’re assessing him as a second ruck and back up forward.

A back up ruck who averages 0.91 goals a game is a fantastic return.

Looking back one of the worst list management decisions from Carlton was not entering in the Brodie Grundy discussion when Melbourne were trying to give him away for a box of BBQ shapes. Kruezar was done, Pitto was never going to be the answer and we had the 2nd best ruck in the league available and I dont think we even asked the question.

It’s also worth remembering, everyone here were laughing at the Hawks for the trade price they paid for Barass and the $$$ paid to Battle but here we are, they have two rock solid defenders and we still haven’t found a partner for Weitering in 5 years

Feel the midfield is our biggest priority in terms of fixing.

To that end I would be moving on Cerra and Cripps. Keep George but start injecting Ben Campo (otherwise why did we get him) , Walsh, Jagga, Cooper, Cody coming in plus I'd be having good looks at Chesser as an option, Wilson for time in there and it would be nice if we can add a quality free agent (if and it's a big if we could jag a good one this would help a heap). Motlop should play mid when he comes back too.

Heat has to come on Moir Sam Mitchell style; shape the **** up or you're gone, guy has the tools to be an above average forward mid so get to it buddy.

Noticed Cowan had a few runs in the centre on the weekend so sure try him as an intermittent chop out at least.

Better game plan and more diverse options ( ie a better mix of inside/outside and more pace) through the midfield should be the bare minimum this off season.

Edit: Also can we move on from our midfield coach please.

Kruz retired 3 years before Grundy even played for Melbourne.

Your point is perfect none the less

We are stuck with Cerra, we recently te signed him for 5 years

The easy reply is contracts can be broken but we know the reality is Carlton probably wont and tbh who would trade for him and take most/half/some of his salary so you're probably right.

Yet another example of stupid long term contracts being handed out. His hammy history alone should have been a red flag.
