3rd time now Cripps has been a "broken man". Seems every game style "breaks" him.
its nt tthe players its the coach - every coach Carlton signs up ...its always the underperforming flakey self confessed star players who are the victims ...poor litle things...

This Hickmont guy sure sounds like the coach we need for the likes of Hewitt, Reedy, Holland, Holland's, O'Keefe, Charleston, Chester, Monaghan and Burns. Hoping he can bring back David Cunningham as an assistant.

Pies were at rock bottom in 2021
After finishing 3rd, 4th and 8th their previous 3 seasons, with their last flag coming 10 years prior. Premiership players Sidebottom and Pendles still in the team, along with DeGoey, Moore, Maynard, Elliot, Crisp and Quaynor. Quality and leadership we can only dream of.

I actually think its fairly obvious that
none of those teams have been in the position we are

And they finished 17th that year and looked lifeless in the back half of the year. Club was in disarray. CEO and board issues. Disenchanted fanbase etc

My take on what's happening

There will be a change of Coach. No doubt

Wright has things in place (with support of President) and is in the middle of a clear plan to rebuild football department over two years. Much has been done already

Voss has been given this year as he had contract to prove his worth. He's failed
Wright will be wanting to exit Voss the same way he did Buckley. With some respect and dignity. Issue is if things keep going this way he may have to do it earlier

There have been massive changes in Football Department that are yet to show through. Many can't be assessed yet as it's too early and/or it's hard to when there are problems at the top

Over the next 1-4 months Voss will go. There will be an interim whilst Wright/Davies properly recruit the next Coach

At years end tough decisions will be made on list. Some big names will go and at least 10 changes.

Things need to change and I believe they will it just make take a few weeks or even a month or so

By Round One next year we will see a very different Coaching set up and a very different list. Sadly, we just need to wait (again)

I know. Yet they still had the on-field leadership and a decent core of talent capable of playing a modern style. Not really comparable to us I would have thought?

Who have you got for captain next year? (I assume no one is still thinking it will be Cripps)

What the word on him? Fairly well rated? Has fresh ideas? Good communicator?

Modern day thinker and very well liked. Popular person and calm demeanour

Very good developer of young talent. Highly rated. I wouldn't write him off for senior job either

My guess is if we move on Voss he will fill in. JMO

Awfully quiet. Crickets coming from the club, not even some warm and fuzzy media to attempt to placate the paid up members somewhat. Almost feels like if they say nothing then we might all forget Saturday happened.
Wont be long before we are told the rest of the team have shaved their heads

That’ll get us excited

Sounds appealing.

I don't agree change of coach will have immediate impact but it will get things going in the right direction.

Development based coaching, forward thinking and focus on modern and needed fundamentals is important for us now.

I am not looking to change coach for early wins. I think we need a circuit breaker and a change of direction.

Our side and Leaders need hope. It's gone. We need to assess our list as well

IMO the change will be the start of a new direction. It's the final piece in the Wright puzzle. Not a sugar fix

Why has it taken Voss so long to make moves!
Finally, he did something differently in the midfield mix.
Put Cowan in there and in the last 5min of game he threw Ainsworth in there.
And he had a clearance straight up lol
Why does it take him so dam long to try things!
He's gotta make a change with Harry as well.

Pitto, no Reidy and McKay as 2nd ruck. Harry actually goes alright as makeshift 2nd ruck imo, and it gets him up the ground and involved without 2-3 blokes sitting on him every contest. Hell, I'd try him at centre half back at this point, certainly giving us nothing forward.

I can imagine he would play CHB like left foot version of Ben McKay :(

Kinda. Wasn't driven by us, he wanted out and we made the best of it.
But that's the same as Richmond, the same as Melbourne.

The rules clearly mean that you cannot give away a big player without them wanting to go.

Sure, but you can tell those players the direction the club is heading and 'encourage' them to explore other offers.

Can anyone realistically see any of Cripps, Weitering, McKay, Saad, McGovern, Williams, Acres or Hewitt being part of our next finals push? Wouldn't have thought so.

Get there’s a leadership issue but the pile on with Cripps is fantasy stuff. I still enjoy a good Rambo film and watching Annie Schwarzenegger in Predator as well, but the “one man beats the world” is fictional stuff. Doesn’t happen. If you’ve still got Rambo and Arnie posters on your wall passed age 18, time to take it down.

All Cripp’s all Australian awards and Brownlow medals were awarded when he’s been co-captain or captain. Clearly his peers recognise what a player and captain he’s been. Has he dropped off this year? Yep, he’s been bashed for years.

Leadership isn’t about one player - Brisbane aren’t guns just because of Harris Andrews. They’ve got at least half a dozen leaders - McCluggage, Dunkley, Neal, Cameron, Bailey, Zorko.

Carlton has a leadership problem but it ain’t Cripps, it’s the next level down.

Yes logical, but I'd suspect 10 changes could be 16+

Agree. Just because the team has been poor it doesnt automatically mean hes a rubbish leader. He's been below par from a playing perspective but has earnt some grace. Hes only human.

People are calling for him to be dropped. Hed be top 5 in our B&F at this stage. Admittedly not much of an achievement this year, but hes nowhere near out of our 23.

Very well put

Some very short memories around Cripps. Guy has been a Star and will be a legend of the club. The amount of times he has lifted this club is unbelievable. Sometimes timing is everything

In a better side he wouldn't be talked about like this. All the great leaders had support and good coaches

I feel Cripps has done everything possible but has had limited support. It's now caught up with him and Voss's coaching doesn't help him at all

IMO he just has nothing left to give especially when the coach has lost the players

Just out of curiosity JustaBattler.. if you ranked all the coaches 1 to 18, where would you have Voss ranked?

Because all of C. Scott, Fagan, Hardwick, McRae, Clarkson and Beveridge have taken teams to premierships.

Then you have a guy like Mitchell who is a tactical genius and has a list with an average midfield genuinely competing. Longmuir has finally adapted Freo's game to add some more run and speed. Cox has a great list at his disposal but has Sydney humming.

Outside of these 9 coaches you then have Lyon and Kingsley who always instill competitive DNA in their teams and accept no BS.

Carr and King are in their first seasons but both coaches have transformed how their teams are playing and are far more competitive than they were predicted heading into 2026.

That leaves Voss along with 4 other coaches; B. Scott, Nicks, Yze, and McQualter and with those latter 2 it's still too early to make a call on them as they have rebuilding lists. So in reality Voss is in the bottom 3 coaches (of those who it's not too early to judge) along with B. Scott and Nicks. Regardless of all the other stuff which could be true about our lack of leadership on field, how we burn coaches etc.. having a bottom 3 coach puts us behind the eight ball before a ball is even bounced.
Nick's isn't bottom 3.
Steadily built and improved the Crows style and now commands one of the most organised and efficient forward lines in the comp. Back line goes alright too.
