Classic fck head Lloyd on FC
“Saints have been great with Max….but just maybe….Max would be better in a different environment…at another club?”

You thinking Bombers you clueless git??

Every time on this show King is mentioned = Lloyd “King should leave”
I can see why the club said no thanks for this twits goal kicking help down the park on a Saturday he’s friggin robot ..

Jimmy Bartel some sense “saints would still need a forward …and wouldn’t get market value..”
thanks Jim some semblance of intelligence.

It does seem to happen though. Players going through long term injury lay offs end up needing a fresh start psychologically. Hopefully Max feels like he was included and bonded with teammates despite rehabbing mostly alone.

Players also seem to get to a point where they look to blame staff and docs for their lack of continuity. I really hope he gets back and plays some footy in a positive environment and we get a finals series under our belts.

We have put so much time and hope into him, we really just need to get him back playing to give him some pay off for his pain. If he loses most of the last part of the season I think he could be inclined to ask for a move. Play footy and feel like blue skies are ahead and he probably stays.

If the worst happens we really need to be throwing big money at some developing talls like Shanahan. I think Max is a potential Coleman medalist next year if he can get through the soft tissue stuff. Shanahan is probably another 2 years off being an alpha forward. Max is still the more preferred choice because we really need to get going next year while Wilkie, Sincs, Hill etc are still young enough.

Yeah it’s obvious what Tom Morris meant when he ran with that. He never said King wanted to look elsewhere, just some people around him thought he should. The amount of crying people did on here over it was weird.

It might be true. Frustration would be massive if you were his family. Maybe misdirected maybe but still massive.

In reality, Max has been out of the game for longer than a young quality AFL player should have ever been. Sitting in the stands for months of a season recovering from various injuries, then can't get beyond two games in the VFL before heading back to sit in the stand for another month or maybe more while recovering and doing rehab. Clearly too risky to go straight back in to an AFL game, so it will be back to the VFL to see how long he can hold up. Poor guy, but I feel he will never be able to get through a full season again.

Xavier Clarke was on an AFL list for 10 years and played 49 games in his final 7 years. He played 57 in his first 3 years. We let him go because he couldn't get on the field without breaking down. Talent and application was never in doubt, his body just couldn't handle it.

Max is getting close to 8 years with 83 games. Their careers seem to be following very similar trajectories but the big difference is the massive long term contract.

Potential star KPFs are going to be given a lot more time. X-man had tissue paper knees too. They'd go every time he seemed to get on a footy field. He had soft tissue injuries after returning but he seemed to be constantly doing ACLs. Pretty sure he did LARS and then the other would snap.

Nah, he'll get back. The knee cost him last year because they chose the slower long term fix that didn't work. The long lay off has meant he's struggling to build up without soft tissue injuries. Just need to load him up slower and more systematically. I'm still confident.

I’m certainly not going to get mad at other people suggesting King could use a fresh start, whether I agree with it or not the logic stacks up. He’s almost certainly gonna have some mental baggage with Linton Street and the club (and if we’re honest we’ve certainly made some errors along the way with his injury management and rehab).

I don’t know if king feels that way and I seriously doubt we’d entertain letting him go (unless we got a pretty cracking deal from it) but “others” thinking it might help isn’t really worth getting mad about imo. If I was a close friend or advisor I absolutely would have kicked the tyres on the idea at this point.

We’ve stuck by him for nearly 0 games in 3 seasons.

Max could demand a trade at the end of the year and we’ll just say no.

So long as the knee stays structurally sound, a few soft tissues as he works back to playing condition is nothing
I’d take a 5th round draft pick if it meant getting his contract off the books

I reckon the issue is that it’s extremely unlikely anyone takes his full contract and if they’re only willing to take half of it (or whatever) then it’s hardly worth it and that’s before you consider that no one is giving a pick or player worth anything either.

If GC was gonna give us Read or Walter (who both look surplus to need) and take his whole contract I’d certainly take the call but that’s not gonna happen and it’s the only semi plausible scenario I could think of

So we've done all the hard work in identifying the hidden knee issue and fixed it but now because we should trade him because of a small and expected set back.

It's exhausting. I'm very glad the people here in the cheap seats arent anywhere near a list management department.

Lyon said it is for the next 6 years, not the next 6 weeks.
Ignore the talk of trade etc, the club is invested in the player. He either plays for us or his body is not up to it and he retires.

That would be an idiotic move. Probably heavily front loaded so on a conservative wage already. If he doesn't ask to get out of the contract we'd be better off trying to build him back up. Best case he's a gun KPF, worst case he breaks down and asks to get out and we are where we are now.

Could be on $600k per year from here on. You imagine he was heavily front loaded. GC might see it as a way to keep Ben which puts a huge premium on him. Plenty of clubs would line up for a gamble. I would if I was another list manager.

I'd rather persist with Max personally. A current Saints side with Max would be scary. Seeing Ben play this year makes you realise what a weapon a dominant tall forward makes. Probably directly and indirectly worth 4 goals per match difference.

He looked really good in that second VFL game. Really promising signs, sucks he pinged a hammy but not the end of the world. The knee looked sound which is the main thing. He'll be back running in only a couple of weeks. Stay the course, it might be that he mainly impacts next year but he could still help in the second half of this season and long term he can still kick plenty of goals for us.

Seriously doubt it’s $600k and even then I reckon GC if they’re giving anything decent up woukd want us covering a fair chunk of it.

Any team trading for him is either gonna want us covering most of his wage or is going to give us absolute dogshit in a trade (or more likely both).

So yeh we gotta keep him cause that alternative is shit.

Kings contract has numerous triggers
Someone’s happy

I think we will be having this conversation every year until Max gives it away.

It was meant to be around $900k for 8 years or something. Comparing that to Nas and TDK it's small change. If they paid an extra $800k per year while we were struggling to pay minimum cap then it's already averaged out to $800k per year. If they paid double that it could be $700k. With match payments taken out it would be pretty much $600k to $700k IMO.

Ben King probably gets $1.8 million+ pa over 6 plus years to tempt him out as a FA. Plenty of clubs would take the gamble on Max. He was the better King twin who was expected to be a dominant forward while Ben was meant to be bit more vanilla.

The knee is meant to be healed. You are now looking at conditioning and injury management. If I'm from another club I'd be really keen to have a gamble on him.

If I'm North Melbourne, Collingwood, Tasmania, Carlton, GWS, Gold Coast, WCE, Essendon, Hawthorn, Port, Melbourne, Geelong or any other club that could use a tall power forward who has just turned 25 I'm going full pace at a throw at the stumps.

I get the frustration over the past two seasons. In theory, if we bit the bullet and did the knee surgery properly early last year he would probably be playing AFL footy currently. He would then have less pressure on himself.

Hopefully the club spends the next 1-2 months really making sure he gets his body right. If we do it properly, there's a real chance he can have a massive impact on the back-end of our season, which is almost exclusively at Marvel.
