It was meant to be around $900k for 8 years or something. Comparing that to Nas and TDK it's small change. If they paid an extra $800k per year while we were struggling to pay minimum cap then it's already averaged out to $800k per year. If they paid double that it could be $700k. With match payments taken out it would be pretty much $600k to $700k IMO.

Ben King probably gets $1.8 million+ pa over 6 plus years to tempt him out as a FA. Plenty of clubs would take the gamble on Max. He was the better King twin who was expected to be a dominant forward while Ben was meant to be bit more vanilla.

The knee is meant to be healed. You are now looking at conditioning and injury management. If I'm from another club I'd be really keen to have a gamble on him.

If I'm North Melbourne, Collingwood, Tasmania, Carlton, GWS, Gold Coast, WCE, Essendon, Hawthorn, Port, Melbourne, Geelong or any other club that could use a tall power forward who has just turned 25 I'm going full pace at a throw at the stumps.
I think it was meant to be $1m per year for 8 years.

If we have gone $1.5 and $1.3 (which seems to be general belief) its still $5.2m over 6 which is $860k a year.

Again, i dont doubt clubs would have a look but ANY club willing to trade for him would be asking for us to pay some (if not most) and wouldnt be trading much of value.

The ABSOLUTE best deal i could fathom (and i still think its a pipe dream) would be GC giving Read or Walter and theyd still want us paying a chunk of his salary.

At that point, its not worth it for us.

What do you think someone would be willing to give up for him and how much of his salary do you think they would take, ultimately thats the discussion and its subjective. I cant think of a better potential deal than that one and im not taking that on my lowest day about Max.

You need some damn strong perseverance to keep going through rehab. Really feel for him

Same, not sure how many people here have suffered with long term chronic issues and can relate.

But they really, really have a huge capacity to **** with your mental health.

Not to be underestimated at all.

But by all reports Max handles it remarkably well, but to be honest you would never really know how well unless you're Max.

If whats been alluded to is true (that we front loaded him) then paying $500k of his salary to be somewhere else (and thats assuming thats all we have to pay) seems pointless. If we hadnt front loaded him then the salary cap relief might be worth pursuing but wed get absolutely **** all for him in a trade and then were gonna get a couple hundred K freed up after weve paid the bulk of his contract.

Nah thanks.
Also just wouldn't be worth the risk of watching him return and contribute at another club from an emotional standpoint. Would really hurt the club and supporters given everything we've invested in him.

Interesting in that article that Hird said part of the approach that worked for him was to drop weight. I'm not sure if King is heavier now, but he's definitely bulkier in the top half of his body.
He's significantly heavier I would wager. I commented on this after being at the VFL on Saturday, it's a worry after reading that from Hird. May need to drop some of the weight he's put on.

Its a different position too. Max was too small in the upper body for a key forward.

There is probably a balance to be held but midfielder/flankers dropping weight doesnt really impact other parts of their game, it does for key possy players.

I think that his contract was meant to be $900k which is nothing in the current environment factoring in Tasmania who have nearly unlimited cap space things are going to get a bit crazy. If you assume that it is $800k it seems like a good deal. Probably less than they paid to get Daniher to Brisbane.

His brother playing like a star KPF is going in his favour too. Having the lesser twin looking like peak Tom Lynch would be an easy model for what you imagine you are going to get. You might not get much in trade value, like a second round pick or something but his contract and wage would put off absolutely no-one, especially at his age. It actually might be a selling point.

Doubt that GC would direct swap players though. Reed and Walter are probably requiring some serious trade capital. Reed was meant to be considered an absolute athletic freak and over 200cm. Both are academy kids so may want to bide time waiting to see what happens with King anyway.

Dont agree at all. No one is taking his full contract on when he hasnt played in 2 years and cant stay on the park. If they were they are giving us pick 90 and would want a second rounder back.

Were really discussing two seperate things here.

Would someone take him on. Maybe, i dont agree hes nearly as attractive as you think.

Would they pay what wed expect for him. No

Would they take his whole salary. Not unless were doing a Geelong/Gold Coast thing (i forget the player but buying a pick)

Funny enough I was less keen on King at the draft because he was more of a 2 meter small forward than a true power forward. He roved a lot of loose ball and used his smarts to get through traffic more than a straight lead up crash packing bull.

His goals came from a range of deliveries. Maybe he's better minimising the weight and using his nous instead of his bulk. If his body wasn't meant to carry the extra kgs it's worth slimming down to avoid injury.

We definitely need to try someone who specialises in injury management like Hird's guy. Get him a very individualised program and get them to work out what is best for his body not that we would like him to be. No good having a Ferrari that sits in the driveway.

Having the structural stuff under control wouldn't scare them off in a medical assessment now. A lot would take the gamble IMO. Anyway hopefully it doesn't get to that point. I think we should persist because he's of value to us. **** other teams.

I am saying Round 19, v Geelong for Max's big come back in the seniors.

Anyone 'brave or stupid' enough to take a stab at a come back date?

Kane Cornes is such a sad Kent.

Whole segment on agenda setters just saying that he should look outside St.Kilda to get his body right

Daisy and Hodgey both said that it’s “just a hammy” - his first one I think

And that all of the injuries over the last 2 years have been compound injuries, and the calf and hammy are a result of the deconditioning from those injuries.

Bet you he called no one, got no information on it and just fired from the hip.

He even said Max did his hammy “kicking at goal”

Just an absolute stain on the media. His stuff on fireball is good but all of these hot takes he does are just garbage.

Never been positive about a player on channel 7 - always just tears people down.

Pathetic dog

His whole model he said is based on the Americans--create controversy even when there is no basis to it. I don't pay attention to him.

Just a real loser.

Sheezel came out during the week and admitted to how much the “sheezy ball” stuff affected him at the time.

Just 20 years old and trying to find is way and getting ripped on TV by some has been tagger.

Need more clubs to blacklist him so that channel 7 end up having to have him on the shows less.

everyone keeps saying this about Kayne but keep watching and listening to him LOL

I was honestly pretty happy seeing him run out on the field the last couple of weeks.

We look to be on the right track with his recovery now, I see Max as the icing on the cake. We have learnt to play excellent football without him but if he gets going.... look out... the sky is the limit.
The way he was moving in that 2nd game before the hammy was mouth watering stuff. You don't walk away from that unless it's done, dead and buried.

It does seem to happen though. Players going through long term injury lay offs end up needing a fresh start psychologically. Hopefully Max feels like he was included and bonded with teammates despite rehabbing mostly alone.

Players also seem to get to a point where they look to blame staff and docs for their lack of continuity. I really hope he gets back and plays some footy in a positive environment and we get a finals series under our belts.

We have put so much time and hope into him, we really just need to get him back playing to give him some pay off for his pain. If he loses most of the last part of the season I think he could be inclined to ask for a move. Play footy and feel like blue skies are ahead and he probably stays.

If the worst happens we really need to be throwing big money at some developing talls like Shanahan. I think Max is a potential Coleman medalist next year if he can get through the soft tissue stuff. Shanahan is probably another 2 years off being an alpha forward. Max is still the more preferred choice because we really need to get going next year while Wilkie, Sincs, Hill etc are still young enough.
As Hodge said tonight on this - it’s a hamstring …and expected
He’ll be fine and honestly I don’t care if he doesn’t kick bags this year …just get back play a few games …see u next year pre season in full

I’m certainly not going to get mad at other people suggesting King could use a fresh start, whether I agree with it or not the logic stacks up. He’s almost certainly gonna have some mental baggage with Linton Street and the club (and if we’re honest we’ve certainly made some errors along the way with his injury management and rehab).

I don’t know if king feels that way and I seriously doubt we’d entertain letting him go (unless we got a pretty cracking deal from it) but “others” thinking it might help isn’t really worth getting mad about imo. If I was a close friend or advisor I absolutely would have kicked the tyres on the idea at this point.
All true and lovely except it’s Lloyd I’m referring to who’s been angling for King to look elsewhere (probably Tullamarine way) for some time and he’s got an agenda that’s obvious. It’s well known and I suspect why the club said no thanks for his esteemed goal kicking sessions.
The guy is a fck head I’m ok with that.
