Dodson likely to not really be demanding a spot for a couple off years so probably could have developed both. Anyway it's history now.
Was out of Heath and Keeler. Keeler may be able to go as a forward/ruck where Heath probably not.

Well and truly on Hewett watch now

For you and others who have seen more of Hewett than me...

Is it a case of mis-management at the Eagles?

His pure numbers aren't too impressive (not using that as a defining measure, of course).

His tackling stats were pretty impressive last season though - for the type of player he is.

Would he be a high-half forward player that can go through the middle? Release Hall on ball more?

How much would he cost? Surely the Eagles would demand at least a second?

Sorry for the random thoughts and questions - just trying to get my head around it.

Yeah there was a vein of thought when the Dogs were trying to poach Wilkie that he would be a Judas / turncoat if he left. If another company offered me 50% or more money to do the same job I'm doing now, I'd be nuts to not consider it.
"Hi honey, I've been offered $400k p.a more to do the same job I'm doing now. What do you think". "No stay where you are, they're such nice people".
That's it.
Humanity is just a giant arseh*le with facial features.

Haven't written him off at all. Just said I'm not convinced (like who cares what I think) and that he looks like a flog. Which IMO he does.
I'm happy enough for him to stay or go.
Not invested at all in the money grabbing Judas
Hell yeah. My dad called Barry Hall Judas for the rest of his career, I haven’t seen anyone use it in a football way since then

If Hewitt is being left out of this current WCE team, he is either
1) absolutely useless
2) already gone.
Dont know a lot about him but according to some who know he more than me he is not no.1.
This is what I worry about.

If he is not being mis-managed, I'm not sure he is worth parting with a second.

Is Hewett being distracted in his Perth bubble?

I remembered he was pretty happy when he got drafted by his home team ... some hard celebration when his name got called out ... but for some the distraction of family / close friends is just that ... a distraction ..... others more insular may need it

The kid can play and has got some sweet moves in traffic and knows where the goals are .... maybe a move away is exactly what he needs so he can just concentrate on footy .... some peacocks just need room to fly

I'm not privvy to any details about him but:

Why he might leave:
1. Eagles fans have mentioned that he never gets dropped even when out of form because of how poor their team is (ie. the treatment that Pou/Wilson/Garcia were afforded before they became b23 regulars) - so I guess he's never been properly developed
2. was super injury prone to start his career so might want a fresh start
3. Even when playing he's been shunted to outside roles when his best position should be inside mid

Why we might want him:
1. Ross loved him in his draft year and has spoken about him in past press conferences - we almost traded in for him on draft night iirc
2. Speedy explosive mid/fwds are a player of need imo
3. Would come at a discount (2nd rounder?)

I hope Sam Marshall is no.1 if that's what you mean

The league should get rid of the 10K cash bonus prize for the 1st draft pick as the club with no 1 pick would be more inclined to use that pick on the highest rated player even if that player was tied elsewhere .... the fact there is 10K cash bonus tied to the no 1 pick the club is more inclined to choose a player they know they will definitely get .... so that player gets the money ..... think Ugle-Hagen is the only Academy / F-S player to be chosen at no 1 (by Adelaide) that didnt get to that club

Bin the cash bonus I say

Hi fellas, don't mean to intrude. I actually came to ask what the deal is with Dodson, but have found Hewett commentary now so figured I would at least clarify.

He had a good start to his career, was wiped completely out of 2024, had a good year last year, and so far this year has missed a lot of preseason and been rushed (heavy emphasis on this) back into the side, due to his quality when the wheels are rolling.

His best position is as a mid-fwd, I think he is at his best playing 50% CBAs and then impacting at stoppage i50. He is absolute dynamite when he is on song, 15-20 touches, 4 or 5 clearances, multiple goal kicker. His best is one of our best players easily.

Issue really is just the body, he is almost never fully fit so far in his career. The smoke to do with moving is believed to be coming from his agent. Rumoured recently to be asking for 5 years $750k, yet dropped intermittently this year (needs to get his body right). While I don't think he will leave, being a WA boy and loving the club and his teammates, I do think that he could be made available for the right price. Unfortunately that price is not a second rounder. An example of worth more to us than what we get for him.

Anyway, whats the deal with Dodson

I thought they had gotten rid of it?

Hands off :p

In all seriousness I rate Dodson very highly.
Just usual tall young situation.
Doing his time honing his craft. Will be critical hopefully for us in the future

Think every club in the comp will probably be ringing his phone sitting behind TDK and Marshall right now. Really rate the kid. Is he signed long-term yet?

Doddo is not for sale

And Hewett is definitely worth no more than a 2nd rounder if you keep binning him

I think to be fair to a non saints poster who has been very respectful in his query.

Dodson is the same argument as Hewett.

We’d value Doddy for stuff outsiders won’t see and wouldn’t consider a trade unless we got a great deal.

Hewett is reasonable to suggest the same.

Worth flagging Roma is out of contract at the end of 2027 (and will be 32 I think) meanwhile Dodson is 19 at the moment. Rucks take time, I’m sure ever he knows that.

We would have explained a succession plan to Dodson and he’s still very young and very raw, hell get some games here and there as we no doubt rest TDK and Roma but we’ve got plans for him.

Not even talking value, I was simply curious as to whether or not he had signed long-term yet, and if not why not. Given how highly I rate him from his draft year and what looks like some great VFL performances.

I do suspect that there is a few on the Saints list in the same boat as Hewett, where if they end up leaving there is a very very small chance to get assets equal or better than their internal value. Happened with Chesser for us last season. More value keeping them than what we'd receive but had our hand forced.

Is he still expected to move on due to role at the end of that contract? Obviously that was all the noise with the Geelong offers, but it seems like they've (TDK + Marshall) really started to click the last few weeks

Admittedly haven't watched much of West Coast at all these last few years, so I know nothing about Hewett, but the way WCE fans complain about him, that can't be a good sign.

Two years is a long time.
Probably too early to tell what’s happening end of 2027 with a 32 year old.
I guess it also depends on how quickly Dodson comes along. He’s definitely the succession plan.

Hard to say but I’ve got no doubt the sell to Dodson would be about being the long term Roma successor
