Not a fan of blaming the Barrass injury for this. Need to find different ways to cope in these big games. Also not a fan of Freo learning how to win these.
Gunston's injury has been far more influential. Hawthorn were dominating the game between the time Barrass got injured and the time Gunston got injured.

Hawthorn's song starts with ''we're a happy team at Hawthorn'', it's now getting changed to ''we're a one man team at Hawthorn..''

And now to listen to the worst song in the comp, but a Hawks loss is no bad thing.

Hawthorn could be without Barrass and Gunston next week (and possibly longer). Could they be rolled by Melbourne next week? Not getting ahead of things, but 3rd on the ladder is within reach... Still need a lot to go right to get a home final, but there's a lot of season to go.

Very early days . We need to worry about ourselves.

Bit dirty on that last behind by Freo because I had them winning by 20 points. Hawthorn had been on the right end of 2 very tight games recently and grateful to get a draw last week, so this is a nice little reality check for them.

Going away from Pies & Freo with 2 points instead of 8 is so funny for the Hawks

Freo this season has been a bit similar to us in that they have won most games by putting the foot down and destroying opponents in 20 mins.

Finally have made the jump to contenders after a couple of years of threatening to.

Definitely starting to see it as part of their game plan. They seem to be way too content to sit back playing slow and grinding teams down for 3/4 quarters doing nothing. Watch Ryan running backwards to pick up 30 touches in space in the back pocket. You can see them trying to grind down the opposition ruck while doing this.

Then bam go nuts for a burst and blow teams away. They let Jackson go nuts on ball with a good midfield and the forward line can deliver. Too many options with Treacy and co to easily shut down.

I reckon you could argue that Jackson is the form player in the comp. He is blowing teams away on his own

For me, its the age old question: is it deliberate strategy or is the coach just a cautious idiot who sets his team up to lose and then the players have to throw off the shackles to chase the game and win?

They are stacked in the midfield and forward but other than Pearce I'm still very very sceptical of their backline. Lotta panic merchants down there.

Yeah I dont rate Ryan at all. Cheap possession merchant. Got exposed for pace by Gunston of all people. There isnt a lot of medium/tall depth if its true that Pearce got hurt at the end of the game.

I dont mind Clark as a rebounder though.

I think at the moment they are showing enough that they can switch gears (whether its coached or not). Just need to see how they can deliver that in pressure finals

i dont think freo are very good honestly.

been very lucky so far this year getting teams at the right times and even then only winning by slim margins. their coach is a donkey, they have no system. look how many times last night there was zero connection between that midfield and forward line. hawks with no barass should have been buried by 3qt with the volume of entries freo were getting.

one of the better injury lists currently. i dont count darcy, they are a better team without him.

if we had them in a qf i would back us in to win by 40+ either home or away. their midfield is still able to be bullied jackson aside, and i think draper is a fairly good matchup for him.
