No club competing for a flag is paying $2mpa. The reason the saints did and could is a combination of mismanagement and then intentionally banking the cap to plug holes in the list. It’s a very short term strategy to address gross list mismanagement.

Topend is still 1.5/1.6 for a serious club imo. The only ones who will offer more are those that are in a genuine rebuild. And I’m not sure those clubs are right for ZB.

I still don't get the Brisbane matching theory. If Brisbane can offer close or the same doesn't he just stay? My understanding is he is only leaving for alot more money

There is zero chance crows would entertain a Curtain trade and he is contracted till 2029. 2nd Brisbane have to have the cap space to be able to match and they have already said they wont make him the highest paid player at the club. This is the whole point of free agency compo, the better you are the less compensation you get. sucks but you rather be in brisbanes situation

It's irrelevant if we have the money in the cap, they either will offer him that money or they wont, this matching the bid stuff is absolute non sense, theres no example of anyone paying more than what they offered to "match a bid"

exactly this, the matching the bid stuff just gets thrown around willy nilly, its literally not logical absolute nonsense, a club can only match the bid if they want to pay the player that in the first place, just saying we will match the bid after offering 300k less is absolutely illogical BS

There is no way the Lions match a offer of over $1.5 mil and probably not over $1.3 mil

If Bailey gets the $1.8-$2.0 mil offers he is gone and nobody could blame him with 2 maybe 3 flags in his back pocket and never the highly paid player on the brisbane list it will be time to cash in and set himself up financially

Despite Nicksys tactical nous, unfortunately there’s no way the Croms midfield is winning 3 finals in a row. They need this more than we do. Sad!

What makes it all much easier under those circumstances is premierships. Its much easier to be magnanamous with multiple flags under your belt if you need to let a player go. Not perfect but its not such a sour taste

Does any player at Brisbane think Allen is worth 900k? There would be plenty of better performed players on less than that at the Lions who could be thinking the same thing. Rarely do players count other players money.

If Zac goes to the Crows he would be their highest paid player, yet I doubt Dawson, Thilthorpe or Rankine are going to be all upset at the club. They know the inclusion of a player like Zac makes the team better, and brings them closer to ultimate success.
