Last game:

Essendon: The Bombers had a tough loss to the Giants, having lead at half and 3 quarter time breaks but having been run over the top by the top 10 hopefuls. Archie Roberts had a very good game in the loss with 42 disposals off half back whilst Key forwards Peter Wright and Archei May kicked 3 goals apiece for the Dons

Fremantle: Freo produced a 5 goal last quarter to overturn a 15 point deficit into a 15 point win against Hawthorne, lead by a rampant Luke Jackson in the ruck with 22 hit outs and 22 disposals, whilst Jye Amiss, Michael Frederick and Josh Treacy highlighted Fremantle's potent forward line with 3, 3 and 4 goals respectively.

Fremantle defence vs Essendon forward line

Essendon's forward line has been the strongest line for them this season, kicking a goal 25.54% of the time and scoring 46.26% of the time it enters their 50, 9th and 10th in those stats respectively. Fremantle have been one of the best defensive sides this season, conceding a goal only 20.09% of the time it enters defensive 50, and a score 39.96& of the time it goes in there, 2nd and 1st in those stats respectively.

Essendon have a very tall forward group between Archie May, Peter Wright, Nate Caddy and Nik Cox all being 193+ cm, but between Hugh Davies, Brennan Cox, Luke Ryan and Heath Chapman they probably are one of the teams more likely to contain the four talls, whilst small/mediums Jayden Nguyen, Archer Day-Wicks and Archie Perkins will really need to provide the pressure inside 50 for the Dons.

Midfield/rucks battle

The Dockers are second in clearance difference and third in contested possession difference, whilst Essendon are languishing in 15th in both areas as things stand, a huge disparity between the two clubs.

Essendon will be hoping to see more of Darcy Parish's best work this week to help stop Freo dominating from the middle of the ground, whilst Zach Merrett and Sam Durham have been showing signs of getting back to their best. Freo's main inside trio of Caleb Serong, Hayden Young and Andrew Brayshaw are up there as the best starting trio in the AFL, all three bringing something different to the table. On the outside, high draft pick Murphy Reid is a dangerous operator across the wing and half forward, whilst Matt Johnson has quietly become an accomplished outside player. They'll be going against a dangerous duo of Archer Day-Wicks and Xavier Duursma, with the latter coming back to his better form. Luke Jackson will be expecting to be better than Nick Bryan this week, the Dons ruck just getting back from his ACL tear last year.

Fremantle forward line vs Essendon defence

Fremantle kick a goal 24.74% of the time they enter forward 50, 11th in the AFL, but score 49.28% of the time, 5th in the AFL. Essendon's defence has been horrible this season, conceding a goal 29.51% of the time it enters their defensive 50, and a score 52.04% of the time, 17th and 16th in the AFL.

Freo's three talls of Jye Amiss, Josh Treacy and Patrick Voss will be out to cause trouble for the Dons, with Lachie Blakiston, Zach Reid and Jaxon Prior likely to take them respectively, with Prior a bad mismatch for Voss. Freo's 4 smalls of Shai Bolton, Isaiah Dudley, Sam Switkowski and Michael Frederick will cause plenty of damage to the Dons.

Key stat

Essendon: Goals/Inside 50. They've dropped off slightly in this area past few weeks, time to get that efficiency up again to challenge one of the flag favourites.

Fremantle: Clearances. If they dominate the middle it could get very very ugly quickly for the Dons.

Prior will be outsized this week.

I would like to see the Gerryn v VOSS matchup.

I'm hoping Gresham is in the first 5 cut at the end of the season, I can see him coming in.
If not Gresham, go with Tsatas.

Freo by 11 goals.

Injuries are certainly ramping up but I would argue only half are best 22 at this stage.

Definitely sucks with Sharp & Johnson though as they were building nicely.

Nah. Just roll with Reddog on Voss. Not perfect but better for McKay and us.
