"We actually haven't put together a list of people we want to speak to."

my quote in response

"You cannot be serious"
If nobody at the club has a list of recently removed head coaches, coaches who are coming out of contract at the end of the year and a list of the most highly rated assistants who are considered next in line, then they are all seriously not fit for the job.

How hard is it to just say that we have our finger on the pulse of wider coaching fraternity and we will extend a line of communication to some of those when the time is right?

Saying there's no list either makes you look like a liar or derelict in your duties.

Could be true, wouldn't take long to put a list together and he might just mean they haven't formally sat down and gone through it although I'm sure he has names swimming around in his head.

If they do the typical Carlton thing of head-hunting an experienced coach, that might just about do me.

Run a proper process.
Find the best coach on the market.
Find one with new ideas, not the same-old, same-old of yesterday.

Do this the right way for a change, NOT the Carlton way.

I'd entertain Hodge as the next coach and three absolute A-grade assistants - from Brisbane / Hawthorn / Bulldogs.
If Hodge wanted to coach, you'd think he would have entered the system after retiring. Instead, he went the media route. I have no doubts about his footy knowledge and leadership credentials, but I'd have big questions about why he chose not take up an assistant role if he wanted to coach.

So, he's a 'no' for me as senior coach, though would be very interested in him as an assistant.

They're all impressive names and should be part of the process, but why does it have to be one of these 5? What if the best person for the job emerges from the process similar to what happened with McRae in 2021?

Surely we don't start a process with a preconceived idea of what the outcome will be.

I think David king should be at the top of the list… he seems to know everything about football…tactics, players, strategy, coaches (and what they should do) and, and, and…..
You had me in the first half...

I am quite happy to go with the best Assistant.

But I have a sneaky eye on McRae. He would know that Collingwood list is cooked, Pendles will retire, and he hates to lose. I could see him wanting to jump ship.
McRae is squeezing every last drop out of a geriatric list. Won't be able to match the best teams but game style good enough to take up to the rest. He is a brilliant, tactical coach.

Agree with the first part.

I'm not sure that he's "brilliant" tactically, in the Mitchell mould, rather than very sound.
Where he is brilliant is his approach to footy fundamentals, and to mindset.

If going down that line...how about Kane Cornes? 2 hours of non-stop CFC supporter love from across the boundary...

Or, even better - our first female senior coach... Caroline Wilson :).

I really don't care if someone has been a coach or we go with an untried assistant

I want the BEST Coach we find that fit the criteria of modern day thinker, developer and can connect the group. Whoever can get the best out of the List

Up to Wright & Davies to now find that person

There are no correct answers that we can give right now. Media will spin it regardless, in fact it is already happening. In general we have to move past worrying about optics when it comes to making decisions in the interest of the club.
