Ventured out to Wallan today.

Good game, my thoughts.

For diggers

Markov very clean.

Tye Browning looked to go down with a knee and then come back on strapped and tore it up last quarter and half.

Number 3 is also very good.

Campbell gave away a costly downfield late that swung the momentum Wallans' way.

Moore scored a goal from a downfield free kick and then was off at halftime injured.

For Wallan

Boyal the bloke is a jet everything he touches turns to gold.

Gill showed a solid presence at half forward.

Carlisle great hands and footy smarts, always in the right spot, but Jesus, he looked disinterested at times.

Smart looks lively. Would it be a bad thing to get him through the middle for a few minutes a quarter?

Morris quality as always.

Yes, it was a really good game. Big crowd, and ground in magnificent condition.

Apart from the first quarter I thought for the most part Wallan had control of the game. Did their best to throw it away early in the last by butchering a couple of easy shots on goal, and an undisciplined act from Hill led to another goal. Then Carlisle dropped a sitter, which cost another goal.

Thought Carlisle was B.O.G, and Stewart, Hill, Boyall and Short also had good games. Browning, Caruana and Markov stood out for Diggers. Losing Moore for the last half certainly unsettled the Diggers set up, but Wallan definitely the better team and deserved the win.

Good to see that a Diggers flag is not the fait accompli that some had predicted. Wallan a fair bit stronger than last season.

On another note, Pat’s 3 quarter time address to the team was underwhelming.

So maybe we should say Diggers flag if Moore plays otherwise Wallan firmed into favouritism.

Who matched up on Moore in first half?

Just read that Kynetons VFL signing Chan Hargraves, sustained a calf injury today playing VFL and out for 7-8 weeks.

What happened to centrals today as that’s a huge loss especially with Hargraves not playing for Kyneton today. Anyone there.

Best game in a Wallan jumper for Short.

That mark of Viani's was an outstanding moment in so many ways. The mark itself and the two blokes who showed no fear for what may have happened. Pity he didn't kick the goal.

I just think Jake's super cool and that attitude came come across sometimes. Was my BOG too.

Very impressed with Diggers given the injuries they suffered.

Hargraves didn’t play for Footscray today?

They're much more than just Moore. Thought they moved the ball very well and at speed. Seem very tall too. Showed their fitness late into the game.

Hill started on him and then, as Wallan tend to do, had a mix and match up going.

Incredibly long quarters today with 3 over 37 minutes long.

Pat the coach =an oxymoron

Bloody long quarters! I drove back home slowly in near dark, keeping a sharp eye out for Roos and wombats.

Did Fowler also spend a bit of time on Moore as well? Yes, Carlisle also played a crucial role, filling the hole in front of Moore, and took lots of intercept marks.

Went out to Riddell today. Fantastic set up and great viewing ground from clubroom end.

Riddell just too good around the ground and more cleaner by foot. Zak Saad with 5 was a difficult match up for South. Chahine just roams the backline at will and was excellent. Swallow excellent especially early on.

First quarter was tight but the last 5-7mins Riddell kicked 4 and basically set the game up from there. South in it at 3/4 time but Riddell to much class overall

Riddell no3 Panuccio Yellow Carded during 2nd quarter during a melee. South didn’t take advantage of that 15mins whilst Riddell had 17 players. Good umpiring to issue a card as it was totally unnecessary.

For South Collins was again good and won the ruck battle. Souter good and Angwin had the better of Darby.

For Riddell to be a serious threat to Diggers and Wallan they probably need to find another tall goal kicking forward but they were very well structured behind the ball.

Was a ripper game of footy.

Thought we were going to blow it in the last qtr but came home to kick the last 4 or 5 goals.

For me, Boyall best on, Carlisle, Morris, Short we’re very good.

Young Campbell Harrison on debut was good with 2 goals.

Agree with qtrs. Close to 40 mins for 3 of the qtrs just didn’t seem right.

Vianni would have to be if not, close to the most courageous player in the comp. Love the way he goes about it.

Thought Diggers in the 3rd qtr allowed us to chip the ball around against the breeze far to easy and needed to push up.

Without seeing Macedon yet I think these 2 sides are a class above the competition.

Macedon always dangerous around finals time if they get close enough as they play a finals type game and have speed and probably the youngest of the 3 sides which can be helpful come September.

Good summary ice
Diggers had a few go down during the day but kept coming which was expected but still impressive.
My post is an off field & how creative the folks at Diggers have been, speaking to a couple of matés Harold Pronto & Chicken Wings who were on the gate. They were surprised every D grade//C grade netballer to 2s/1s footballers all having comp season passes. I thought to comp only handed out a handful of them to clubs or am I mistaken. Maybe to quote the late Dennis Cometti. Diggers have been busy!

Bugger me, Patrick is an absolute gun. His ability to compete in contests that he has no right to is a testament to footballing nous. What an asset.

Yeah agree. Players like Mahoney and Chahine from Riddell are exceptional players at Riddell level. Bigger type bodies who cover the ground well and super versatile.

Yes Kyneton finished last week with no bench.

When they get a few back they'll be there about years end

They still had rotations last week till the end as only seen 2 players injured early . But yes that’s not idea but the CHB was courageous but unfortunately suffered an injury. The shoulder injury still unsure why he deviated to bump if his shoulder was strapped up.
But anyway huge win by Kyneton yesterday mate.. Thought centrals had improved so unsure what’s happened there.

Echoing previous sentiments around the Wallan v Diggers clash.

As physically contested a game as I’ve seen in years, nothing dirty just tough and a real war of attrition with both squads out on their feet come final siren.

Great win to Wallan. Congratulations.

Couple of observations from watching last qtr online;

  • Downfield free kick turned the momentum
  • audio of the game needs to be muted. Not a good listen with the language and profanities spoken in background. Hope league cracks down on this

Yeh I could imagine what the camera picked up as I could hear plenty of effs and cee's coming from the young blokes on the hill from where I stood.

The "Get F**Ked Diggers" chant around the 20min mark threatened to turn heated amongst the crowd during the late stages which was disappointing.

Poor behaviour from people who sit together in cars getting drunk on 3-4 cans. Happens at a few grounds so why don’t presidents pull that behaviour up immediately.
I can see it getting very ugly one of these days and those with the mouths in the cars will cry foul you watch. I sometimes think I would never criticise a player who jumped a fence to give to a big mouth spectator especially when they cross the line. Weak individuals in the crowd.

Never had issues with Diggers so it’s poor form Wallan.

I think most committees try there best to pull it into line.

This year, we had a bit of an issue with Centrals & there President handled it well.

Against Souths, not sure if committee or president but someone came over to the coaches box during the game & apologised for a comment that was made.

On the weekend I did see a couple of our committee members go over to the boys on the hill and was chatting to them and also seen one of the diggers runners chatting to one of there spectators for comments being made to one of our players.

Nothing wrong with a bit of friendly banter but when you walk around the ground you hear a lot of very average comments.
